True20 is the ONLY 20 for me!

This is only a problem if you are trying to convert. Personally, I didn't buy the game to emulate another game. One of the main ideas behind the game is that you are supposed to customize it. as far as spell casting goes, it is suggested in the rules that GMs limit the powers available to adepts...

True 20 - Is it really Simpler?

er what about cleave/great cleave? or am I doing something wrong?

True20 is the ONLY 20 for me!

As I've stated elsewhere, i really dig it. About the only thing I wouldn't do with it is supers- but M&M is very similar anyway.

Favorite System that Never Caught On

It was the first game I ever ran on a regular basis(circa 1983-4). My campaign took place in the star wars universe and lasted about a year. A few years later d6 star wars came out, but by then we'd moved on to something else.

Favorite System that Never Caught On

re superworld I ran it and it seemed to work pretty well for us, but, man that was 1987 or something, and i was innured to crazy rule sets- D&D Clerics couldn't even carry swords in those days. :D As for Champions, I've owned it twice and really tried to like it, but the character builds...

Favorite System that Never Caught On

I've always been kind of interested in this- I have over 40 vance books- including a signed copy of the ist edition of The Dying Earth. I've even met Jack Vance, but for some reason I've never bought this game. :\

Why do you homebrew? or Hombrew blues

I've done lots of weak on the fly homebrews. Right now, though, I'm making one and I'm doing it full bore; my intent is not so much to publish a setting, but to make one that is thorough and well thought out enough that it could be published. Moving forward with it has taught me more about the...

    Best 'Not' Surprised by non-suckage?

True20: it sounded like it was for me and my group, and, well, as it turns out, it was. I just scored a copy of d20 CoC, I hope to repeat the experiance.

Favorite System that Never Caught On

Superworld. It was more rational than V&V and simpler than champions. I also liked Ringworld, both are BRP games, though, so I don't know that they count so much in the "never caught on" category.

    Artsy GMs

My best friend and i both draw, he's professionally good, whereas I am merely adeqaute. I do all the GMing, and lately he has been on me about the lack of art in the game- it's just that he's so much better I feel foolish putting any of my stuff in front of him, because he can do it twice as...

True 20 - Is it really Simpler?

I think, as your post somewhat indicates- that it is simpler during prep- and that is really what I meant when I said it was simpler. If I'm statting a monster/advasary (especailly on the fly) I don't need to figure/roll hit dice. I just assign a resonable toughness save and I'm done. But it is...

True 20 - Is it really Simpler?

Right you are, I guess i just like the track better than hit points.

    The glory of OD&D

I'd be lying if I said I've never encountered any of the problems you listed out, but I pretty much always select the second option- even if it means a long hiatus. I have found that if I can't trust the GM to guide the ride, I can't really have much fun either. As A GM I've had two games killed...

    The glory of OD&D

No offense, really- but why play in a game where these problems are bad enough that you'd need a rule shield to help allieviate them?

True 20 - Is it really Simpler?

I like it for this reason, and because I think once you're familiar with it- it IS simpler, but like all game mechanics it takes getting used to. I just think it stings a bit more here for some, because we're ALL accustomed to hit points already; up unitil recently it was pretty much one...

Question about use of open gaming content

Edit: Some games, like True20, list what is ogc on the title/copyright page near the beginning of the book.

    What was your first module?

First one I played was the keep on the borderlands, but I've been GMing since the middle eighties and I've never used a published adventure.

[Savage Worlds] Secret License Revealed: Savage World of Solomon Kane!

I will almost certainly buy this at some point. As for the racism, well yeah it's there- but, well, it's in all the pulp I've read ro one degree or another. Sixteenth century africa sounds like a cool place to adventure.

When Did You Start Playing D+D?

it's 78 or 79 for me, but i can' remeber which. I do know, however, that it was the blue box.

True 20 - Is it really Simpler?

I agree with this. Conviction points are a pretty good buffer against the lethality of combat, anything else might well take away the excitement.
