Rant: Why must thing always be obvious in D&D?

Stop running huge published campaign settings where the players know more 'lore' than you do. Also use their assumptions about what 'orcs', 'trolls', 'centaurs', and other creatures to make them scream and bleed. "A band of centaur approaches cautiously, weapons at the ready." "Hey don't worry...

    Star Wars Saga Edition?

Irritating the GM leads to the Dark Side. Edit - just making a joke, didn't see Plane Sailing's warning above. Not trying to continue the flames and I'll edit it out if need be.

    WotC's release schedule Jan - Apr ´08. 4th Edition?

You guys are seriously making me consider going through with my master plan to troll Gen Con by having a shirt with a fancy logo and the words "D&D 4th Edition - Coming December 2007!" If anyone asks about it, I'll say they're giving them away at the WotC booth. :D

    A Friendly World

You'll have to excuse us country folk. We ain't used to ya'lls fancy city-stuff like stairs what move for ya, parfume for yer armpits, and talkin pitcher-boxes. :D

    Star Wars Saga Edition?

If I had a player abusing this, I'd *always* have something nasty coming for them. Eventually they could talk to a master, who would explain that their fear was drawing conflict to them, rather than just seeing if it was there. If you look hard enough for a problem, you're going to find one. :)

    Star Wars Saga Edition?

This seals it - The Force is with this RPG. :D

    Roleplaying accents?

I can only do accents badly, therefore I only do them for characters I don't intend for the players to take completely serously. Lucky for me, I almost never want them to take a character completely seriously. :D

    Magic, meet system. System, magic.

The Buffy RPG emulates magic from the TV show very, very well.

    Star Wars Saga Edition?

I'm very interested in Saga, especially if it feels more like the movies. I don't want a generic system, I want a system that does what it does. If I want a generic sci-fi game I'll get GURPS or something. For Star Wars I want Jedi, lightsabers, blasters, fast space battles that feel like...

    Gen Con Newbie HELP!

I ran four games this year that were sold out, and only one of them had everyone show up. If you see a table that isn't completely full getting ready to start, see if you can jump in!

    Gen Con Newbie HELP!

    - Go to the GenCon forum here on ENWorld and sign up for some pickup games. The really good stuff isn't stuff you pay tickets for. (with the obvious exception of *my* games :p) - Be prepared for the glory that is the dealer hall. Artwork, new products, discounted older books, all kinds of...

How Detailed Would Your Ideal Published Campaign Setting Be?

I'm anti map and anti metaplot. All I really want is a firm concept, I'll fill in the details in play.

What to do about PC death?

Well, you could always not kill them. Have them captured, have them lost and need rescued, etc. One rules change I've contemplated is to say that going below -10 or death effect instead makes the character Mortally Wounded. Rename Raise Dead and Resurrection to Cure and Heal Mortal Wound. A...

    Mats, and erasing

Maddman's cheap & easy battle mat. Buy a poster frame at Wal-Mart, one of the big ones, like 24" x 36". Take out the paper insert and turn it over. Draw 1" squares on it. Put the insert back in, square side up. Draw with dry erase markers for dungeon goodness. THe markers erase wonderfully...

Should D&D Have an Alternate Death Mechanic?

Tis cool. I've been in these discussions many times, and normally when someone pulls out the 'why even have dice and rules then!' it is usually an attempt to dismiss everything I'm saying by implying that I'm not playing a 'real' RPG. I do get rid of mechanics which interfere with pace. That...

Should D&D Have an Alternate Death Mechanic?

Basically the story structure is a means to an end, not the end itself. Nor am I interested in railroady games where the GM tells the story and the PCs play along. I'm an interested in the dynamic creation of the story, which I hold is what all RPGs do, and by focusing on the...

[Wednesday 7pm and on] CM / ENW Roman Suite

Dunno if I'll toga, but if we can come Wednesday then we'll be there. And no worries, I got it down. I'll do the drinking in Queenie's room, and the vomiting in fett's. :D

Should D&D Have an Alternate Death Mechanic?

No, my players are not going to go all 'NO NOT BLACKLEAF!' if they lose a PC. Is my game a game first or a storytelling device first? Neither. It is a form of entertainment for myself and my guests. One of my main principles (which may or may not be true, but it seems true to me) is that the...

Should D&D Have an Alternate Death Mechanic?

The point of hit points is to tell when the character can no longer go on fighting. The whole 'side quest' business sounds fine, until you realize that in 3e as written, once you get over 12th level or so, the game becomes so deadly that you'll be doing nothing but side quests. The point of...

[Alignment Fun]My G party has a CE henchman!

They are bright enough not to get Throk anywhere close to town. In my hook for the module, I set it up so the village was much smaller and had been terrorized by the orcs. They demanded one villager a month be staked out for sacrifice, which (the party learned) the shaman was turning into...
