    D&D Starter sets

Slight corrections: 1. Cook was the editor for the Expert set that went with Moldvay's edit of the Basic set. The one that came after them was Mentzer. 2. The expert set that went with Moldvay covers levels 4-14 rather than 4-10 I prefer (and regularly play!) the Moldvay/Cook Basic/Expert sets ;)

    The 1e Tournement

Sounds like fun! I didn't realize there was a 1e tournament going on, either. How'd you guys get it set up in the WotC space?

    2nd edition AD&D help

I highly recommend Dragonsfoot.org as a place to find AD&D gaming resources, and a great place to ask about older D&D editions. Normally I wouldn't link to a different forum site, but ENWorld (generally) has a greater focus on modern/somewhat recent stuff whereas Dragonsfoot is all about...

    GenCon Noobies Game

Just wanted to say thanks for the fun time gaming to all the other players, and especially to Rel for running the game :) It convinced me to pick up a copy of Savage Worlds!

Friday 2-6pm: The Winter Witch (GenCon Noobies Game) - FULL- Accepting Alts

Thanks for the game, guys! It was a lot of fun, and it was nice to try out a system I hadn't played before. You made Ragnar proud as he observed from far, far behind you guys while using his bow ;) I couldn't've said it better :)

    Dice Roller

The dice roller is, err, almost exactly the same as the one on the WotC website, images and all. Not to be that guy, but was permission obtained for that? It just seems weird to me that there isn't any sort of link to the source, or even a copyright notice for legal reasons.

My sub ran out, but I can still access D&D Insider...

Thanks for the explanation! That makes sense :) I actually don't remember seeing anything similar in my email, so that clears that up. Still, two weeks is quite lengthy. I suppose if it keeps up I'll mention something to them, otherwise I won't worry about it. Well, that'll probably be...

My sub ran out, but I can still access D&D Insider...

Well, this is rather odd: my D&D Insider subscription ran out on June 21st, getting the "subscription ran out" confirmation email and everything, but I'm still able to access DDI content. Haven't tried to update the character builder (no update!), but I'm able to get at the compendium and...

    PHB only PCs?

To be honest, the classes kind of play out that way already. Wizards are primarily controllers, but they have a solid splash of striker in them. Warlocks are primarily strikers, but they've got a big chunk of control in them (actually, I'd argue they're more control/status effects than damage...

Laws about death penalty and resurrection

Whenever I run games, I tend to make raising dead more difficult. One way is making the knowledge of how to raise the dead something incredibly taboo. Even if many are capable of casting the spell, few would know how to. Another is changing what's required to raise the dead. Perhaps, in this...

Using Eberron in Other RPG Systems

Well, yes, but sometimes it helps to have rules that reinforce the setting a bit. You can certainly just utilize all of the fluff, but it's nice for players to have the option of, say, a Warforged or Shifter character given they're relevant to the setting. Of course, I could just handle those on...

Using Eberron in Other RPG Systems

If you were to use Eberron in a system other than D&D 3.5/4e, what would you consider the key/"core" elements of it that should be reflected? What, to you, really gives the setting its feeling? What are some things you'd like to see custom rules made for? I love Eberron and have been...

The Ultimate DM Screen and carry all

I like it! :) The only problem I foresee is that it doesn't seem very friendly to posting more references than what'll fit in the middle panel - d'oh! Though, FWIW, those drawers might be a pain to use unless you have enough space to keep the panel with them wide enough out, which means cramped...

    DM issued challenge

Just because you're not playing Pun-pun doesn't mean your character option is balanced. That, and they might take your efforts as a display that you are, in fact, aiming to play an overpowered character, rather than your intended point ;) Be careful about making that choice. Some wouldn't take...

    Giving Out Magic Items

Thanks for the replies, guys! It really helped me think about how to handle the problem. Fantastic link, thanks! I think that's the solution I'll use, though I'm not 100% set on that yet.

    Giving Out Magic Items

If there's one thing that irks me about D&D 4e, it's that magic items are assumed. I know, I know, it's good for balance, but I hate having to pick out magic items. There are just too damn many of them! :( Not only that, there's all the bookkeeping of who needs what item slots filled, who...

What rule does your group ignore?

Though this one's obviously unintentional, a lot of groups I've played with weren't aware of the "allies give you cover" rule ;)

No more WotC Star Wars site

I played my first Star Wars: Saga Edition game today. Now I'm hooked, and they don't even have the website up anymore. D'oh! :) Even then, though, I'd only buy probably the Core Rulebook... splatbooks don't really interest me.
