D&D General Is D&D Survey Feedback Read? [UPDATED!]

I thought the same thing. The leaker also seems to be getting stuff wrong; I'm inclined to believe that this is a hoaxer.

Has Anyone Listened to the Opening Arguments Podcast on the Gizmodo coverage?

This is not about true statements - it's about the way the facts are presented. The podcast host, for example, honed in on the statement that the original OGL was 900 words and the new OGL was 9,000. This was delivered without context - the implication is that the extra length is because WotC...

Has Anyone Listened to the Opening Arguments Podcast on the Gizmodo coverage?

I think lawyers are going to have different takes on all of this. This podcast essentially dismisses the idea that the OGL is truly "open". They aren't going off context or history or what have you - the host is looking at the document itself. He's not the first person in the last 23 years to...

WotC Walks Back Some OGL Changes, But Not All

I'm not sure the original OGL was really all that open to begin with. I know we've seen statements to the contrary from Dancey and others, but the OGL really only seems to give you things you already have under general copyright law. One of my favorite OGL products from back in the 3.5 era was...

D&D 5E Keys from the Golden Vault

These adventures could really vary quite a bit in style - you could have a trap-filled dungeon crawl, an "art heist" from a museum, a "con job" in a noble's estate, and so on. Any guidance on how to run an adventure that encourages the party to split up would be ideal for this genre, too.

WotC WotC needs an Elon Musk

I liked 2e Ravenloft, and I'd have to agree. I've been running a Ravenloft campaign using VRGtR for over a year and it's been really fantastic. It is a very playable book and setting.

Spelljammer light of xaryxis, what are your thoughts (spoilers for the adventure are almost certain)

I think the Light of Xaryxis is an experiment in form and style for a D&D adventure. It's meant to be played in 2-3 hour chunks, each session ends on a cliff-hanger, etc. I think that's interesting, and I plan on running it, but I'm not sure that I would want to see them try it again. It has...

D&D Movie/TV Michelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith Join D&D Movie

The studio seems to be setting this movie up as a franchise. Combined with the TV series announcement this points to an approach similar to Disney with the MCU and Star Wars. My hope is that these productions feel unique, rather than "Marvel but with swords". I think capturing the right tone...

In Which I Attempt a Waterdeep: Dragon Heist Photoshoot

I'm curious to see if Force Grey is a sort of "elite" faction that you need to be a veteran (higher level) adventurer to join. Maybe low level characters are simply prospective members or apprentices/squires?

In Which I Attempt a Waterdeep: Dragon Heist Photoshoot

Though I don't have the book, I do know that Chris Perkins talked about Smokepowder and its role in the Realms (and its role in this adventure) on Dragon Talk. I believe we're getting a full write-up on smoke powder in Dragon Heist.

Any villain pop out as an early favorite?

In Which I Attempt a Waterdeep: Dragon Heist Photoshoot

We've been told that the adventure will change based on the season you set it in. Just how big a difference does that seem to make?

All Change At WotC: New President Arrives From Microsoft As Greg Leeds Resigns

I know that WotC would like to get a nice, big Triple-A D&D video game made (like Baldur's Gate) and maybe this is part of that. I hope so, anyway. I know multiple people who got in to D&D through Baldur's Gate, and they are still some of my favorite computer games.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Psionics and Mystics Take Two

I think an adventure along the lines of the Gates of Firestorm Peak would be a good tie-in with Psionics. That we are seeing a second round on the Mystic makes me hopeful that we'll see the finished product this year.

Last D&D Survey Results In! Plus What's Up With The Ranger?

The UA Ranger is an attempt to make a Ranger that has a unique "thing" that nobody else has (Rogue with cunning action and sneak attack, Fighter with action surge and more attacks overall). Figuring that out will be tough, and the UA Ranger's spirit companion is an attempt at that that just...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Another New Ranger Variant

Agree completely on the spirit companion. It is just too gamey, particularly for this edition.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Another New Ranger Variant

I like the Hit Die and the concept of the "Ranger as Skirmisher" (which the PHB ranger also has). Ambuscade is problematic, I think, but I like what it and the Stealth ability are trying to do. I do not like the Spirit companion or the "Paladin of nature" theme. This is too much of a departure...

D&D 5E Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide: Player Content Guesses

At one point during the playtest, Mearls mentioned the idea that the PHB domains would be a default with setting and god specific domains coming later. So we have the knowledge domain to cover a set of gods, but an FR book might have an Oghma or Denier domain. I think cleric domains are...

    April's D&D Feedback Survey Results

I don't think they rely solely on surveys for addressing issues or creating content. Probably just a small part of the puzzle, really. The small races thing is strange. Gnomes (Gnome Cunning!) and Halflings (Lucky!) are very good. Might this just be a psychological thing?

    Princes of the Apocalypse

5 out of 5 rating for Princes of the Apolocalypse The book is well-written, stuffed full of content, and peppered with great art and maps. It has an old-school kind of sensibility, with 5th edition production values. In general, this adventure seems to really follow the inclusive philosophy of...
