Quick question - Ray of Enfeeblement

the most potent one is the winner. They are all essentially ability modifiers from the same source, and thus dont stack. It's like wearing four different items that each give strength enhancement bonuses. only the most powerful one does anything.

    Tasha's Hideous Laughter --- Broken?

Oh there are certainly worse spells to throw at low level baddies. One word for ya: Sleep.

    Powergaming, who is on board?

I don't like people who powergame with no respect for the other players. See, I tend to play in groups that are comprised of both newbies and old hats. Those of us that have been playing for a while can generally manipulate the system until our PCs are immensely more powerful than the PCs of the...

    Would this be evil?

Yeah, this one comes down to motivation. If they did the deed because it was funny, evil. If they did the deed to teach a lesson, or to protect the patrons, good.

    Does the ranged character stink?

hehe, ranged characters aren't supposed to be good. Funny! I saw a matchup between a 17th level ranged specialist fighter, and a 17th level wizard, and the fighter won every match, five in a row. That said, ranged specialists do need to be careful with their feats and their gear, and it...

When you're an "evil" person, what non-evil term do you use to describe yourself?

I know evil. I call him Dad! He knows evil too, but he calls me Son. :D

D&D combat without minis - is it possible?

The mini/no-mini thing depends entirely on whether or not you like the playstyle and if the GM can pull it off. If the answer to either of these is negative, you should avoid No-Mini play. It simply isn't for everyone. If you DO like it though, it can certainly speed up smaller scale fights...

Banning a Player from my Group. Am I Justified?

I'd just like to add that picking up and leaving, rather than letting the situation escalate further, was probably a good move on your part. If you are too cheesed off to have a rational conversation, then giving yourself a little time and space to pull yourself togeather is smart.

    Paladin Actions - Appropriate?

My one question in situations like this is: Did he detect evil before smiting? In my mind, Paladins should ALWAYS do so. If it isn't evil, you shouldn't be shooting to kill. For a paladin, the decision to end a life should always be a considered one, not a reactionary one. That being said, if...

    An Evil party... Troublesome?

See, some people play their alignments, pure and simple. I'm one of those people. I joined an evil campaign, and played LN so I would not feel compelled to off the other characters for personal gain. I also stated, before I even sat at the table for the first time, that if any of the players...

    In praise of Metagaming...

Honestly, as DM I expect a small degree of metagaming on the part of the players. I mean, adventuring is an INCREDIBLY dangerous profession, and most people simply aren'y cut out for it, so why would they keep throwing themselves in harms way? Fortunately I have a good group right now. One of...

DM fun vs. Player fun...Should it be a compromise?

Personally, I DO get to choose my players. If a player is rude to me or the other players, I will eject him from the game (not saying that this is the appropriate response in this case). I'm a person too, and if I'm not having fun, I'm not going to be running the game. BUT, like a player who...

    You're a gamer???

I've met a number of gamers only because I talk openly about it. ("What are you doing after work?" "Oh, I'm going to play DnD with some buddies.") The tricks to not seeming like a total geek (and thus getting the new people interested in playing) are... A. Do not talk about your character! I...

The Rod of Seven Parts: Lanai Team OOC

I'll be out of town until sunday evening, so if anything happens that needs a little Wyleck imput, I'll throw buff Yssal and throw him at the enemy (along with some flaming gobs of fire). I'll also help out with the healing after the fight, if anyone actually needs it.

[LANAI] The Rod of Seven Parts: Into the Crucible

Noting a powerful spellcaster has joined the fray, Wyleck decides to add his potent magical energies to the contest. He pours the divine power of one of his higher level spells into a summoning, trying to pull a dreadful swamp beast from the lands far to the south into being. It was a creature...

    Playing a Healer

So, thanks to lazybones, I'm thinking of running a Healer in a new campaign. Does anyone have any experience with them, or suggestions on what to do so I don't feel COMPLETELY useless when there's no healing to be done.

"Hold back Yssal, let the big folks do their jobs." says Wyleck to his bemused riding dog, as he continues to fling flame from his flicking fingers.

[LANAI] The Rod of Seven Parts: Into the Crucible

Wyleck stomps forward on his tiny hobbit feet, obviously agitated at the continual chaos of the groups situation, as well as his own lack of understanding. People teleporting too and fro? Giant evil statues beneath his fair city? Ferrymen that don't take proper payment? It just weren't natural...

[LANAI] The Rod of Seven Parts: Into the Crucible

Wyleck virtually leaps down the stairs, an impressive feat for one with legs so short, as he mutters and gesticulates in bizarre and arcane lingo. His hand gets warmer and warmer until it burts to flames in a flash of heat and light. The flames around his hand are hot, but they do not burn, and...
