    A real two-bladed sword!

The props you use in stage combat are not combat ready. Odds are that they're designed to look flashy and break easily. A "real" combat-ready sword is parried with the flat of the blade, because if you block with the edge you'll either dull your sword or notch your sword so tight in the...

When in Heckfire is WotC going to SRD d20 Future?

Every time the SRD's been updated since he took over, actually.

    Runesmith - Wizards in Fullplate

Wizards aren't THAT much more powerful offensively than clerics--thus, an increased AC doesn't help them that much. Especially given that armor does nothing against grappling--a quick rogue or monk who moves next to an opposing armored wizard and grapples him effectively takes the wizard out...

    Missing HP and hardness

I have assigned HP and harness values for armor and weapons IMC. The weapon values are more core, as I took liberties with the armor & hardness to fit my change to the combat system. (Armor takes damage on "touch" attacks, but everyone gets a class bonus to defense.)

    Stop the 1st level Rogue

Sure. The DM just says so, or perhaps the PC wants to roleplay. IMC I'm trying to replace all of the 1st level "bumps" with a more generic training regimine. So, instead of getting "3x skill points" at 1st level, your 1st class level would be the same as any other, but you'd have a training...

Does D&D need equipment wear rules?

Sounds like a good idea as an optional rule. I'd give an average item an x% chance of breaking oh, every month of travel? With the condition going from "good" to "worn" to "broken."

Should the Bard, Druid, Paladin, and Ranger be Prestige Classes?

Yep, all PrCs. No, wait--the Ranger isn't. Paladins, Bards, Druids, Priests, and a few others are. The arcane/divine magic paradigm is actually expanded IMC, with there being numberous magical sources that are all slightly different. Everyone starts as either a wizard or a mage if they...

How widespread is the arcane magic/divine magic divisions in RPGs?

GURPS and Storyteller don't make the distinction--and they both cover a wide swath of RPGs. (The closest Storyteller comes to an arcane/divine split is the traditions in Mage and the differnet kinds of exalts in Exaulted.)

Albany Game Day II: Fun was had by all. Now with pictures.

They were/are an old skool yearly convention, and I do believe that they are still held. (I *think* that they're the ones who are held yearly in Schenecteady. Flights has had ads for it, but I haven't been to ZP enough to see any.) I only know two people who got involved in this Iriqouis...

Spell Point magic system - who uses one?

I use a spell-point system in my game, and have for more than a year now. It's essentially the same system as in UA, with tweaks and expansions that are more me changing the rules to fit my setting than tweaking the D&D rules. Two changes that I've made are easy-metamagic (just pay 2 pts per...

    8th level PC's + Iron Golem = Need a plan

Forget the tower. Find the wizard's associates. One of his/her apprentices, colleauges, or rivals probably knows the trick to get around the golem. Failing that, just wail it to death. The troll must have injured the golem; go check in a day to see if it's healed at all. If it isn't...

    Death Knight Template?

I have the Death Knight from Dragon. I would prefer a "clean" OGC verison, for precisely that reason.

When Skill Focus loses its value

Simple. When you are able to achieve the result you need all the time. From a character-development standpoint, however, I need to disagree with everyone else in this thread. Skill Focus is a great feat for two things: pushing a skill to the absolute max, and becoming competent in a...

Albany Game Day II: Fun was had by all. Now with pictures.

No problem. Let me know if a spot opens up. I'll pass the word along to my gaming circle, and see if anyone's interested.

Albany Game Day II: Fun was had by all. Now with pictures.

Hmm... how interesting I think I might be able to make it this time. Any room for me to run a game? I've got an idea percolating in my head for a "mystery theater" game, focused around a court party.

    Death Knight Template?

Where's a good (OGC) Death Knight Template? Free-online would be best (easiest to use soon), in a book would be ok (would pick up later this year.)

Silly question I'm embarrased to ask.

Nope, you're spot-on. EVERY TIME a rogue (or assassin, or other sneak-attacking character) makes an attack against a target who is either flanked, flat-footed, or without his dex bonus against the rogue, the rogue can roll extra sneak-attack damage. Yes, this makes properly-used rogues...

Should I do a story hour?

Half of my players are new or relatively-new roleplayers. After a few weeks of my ongoing game lagging, I'm going to start a 1st-level game to let them get a better feel for RPing. The game is going to be set in my home world, and use a widely adjusted d20^H^H^HPrometheus-variant rule...

    D&D 3E/3.5 3e Newbie Qtn: SURPRISE

Surprise is usually handled by DM's judgement. However, there are two important things to note: 1: Each character in a combat is essentially surprised until they take their first action--they're "flat footed." A rogue that gets initative on someone can start the fight with a sneak attack...

    Alternate Damage System

Vrecknidj: The VP/WP system is already rather deadly. Since WP = CON, having WP deal damage directly to CON would only have the effect of reducing someone's saving throws and VP pool--which would make sense, seeing as how they're injured. IMO it's an elegant way to deal with that system...
