Build me a katana + trenchcoat guy

Well, I don't mean right away. I mean, eventually! :p EDIT: I imagine he'll be human, picking up Superior Weapon Proficiency (bastard sword) and, assuming the ranger has something like Acrobatics on its class list, the ranger multiclass feat for that and Hunter's Quarry. Now, assuming I am...

Build me a katana + trenchcoat guy

This thread has inspired me to roll up a dexterous, katana (AKA bastard sword)-wielding fighter!

    Is Everything a Power Now?

I always hated the Fort/Ref/Will saving throws system anyway. Especially when I was playing a beguiler, the DM basically gets to roll and see if I get to have fun this turn. I don't know why, but it feels a lot better having that roll in my hands.

    Is Everything a Power Now?

The martial classes can, at times, do extraordinary, superhuman things. And why the hell not?! They're heroes!

KotS - Wyrmpriests, Incite Faith and Minions

Temporary HP works normally with minions. That's why they have 1 HP! ;)

    We're back to AD&D1

Guys, I'm right, you're wrong, and I don't want to talk about it anymore! *stomps angrily out of thread*

    Mechanics and Roleplaying

EDIT: Considering the post posted right before me, I suppose the previous contents of this post is off-topic! (Good thing, too. That horse has been beaten quite enough now.)

    Mechanics and Roleplaying

And those folks would be wrong! What was the order of stat generation methods in the 3.5 PHB, I wonder? I cannot recall, and cannot check right now!

    Mechanics and Roleplaying

Stat array is not the primary method recommended by any means. It's merely the first stat generation choice presented. Right below it is point buy and 4d6 drop one.

    Mechanics and Roleplaying

If little statistical variance is a problem to you, just roll up stats instead. Considering the ridiculous amounts of possible permutations and combinations of powers for each class, not even considering multiclassing and paragon paths and feats and trained skills, from only the PHB, I don't...

    Total Powers Known?

Also, for wizards, whenever they get to pick another daily or utility spell, they actually get to pick two and put them in your spellbook, and prepare the normal amount when you take an extended rest. However, you can't prepare a spell more than once. I can't remember if you actually need your...

Questions from out first run through...

Yes, you can, because the opponent does not completely fill the square.

    Basic Attacks

    Chaaaaaaaaaarge!! Sorry, I had to.

I also have the books [merged] (info on upcomming Power sources and more)

These threads totally need to be consolidated!

D&D 4E How do you feel right now about 4e?

Where's the 'going to get the books, and slowly phase in 4E sessions' option? :P

A few comments from a playtester

It's a little fudge to make multiclassing more viable, I'd say. At least it's a lot more exciting and fun this way.

    Rolling for Initiative

Personally, how I'm going to play it is I'm going to roll initiative for each monster, but only roll once for a group of minions.

    Grognard's First Take On 4e

What exactly is "old school fantasy combat tactics" and how does 4E no longer qualify as this? Other than its non-old-school-ness, of course!

    Grognard's First Take On 4e

And somehow these PC abilities are more complicated and abstract than the ridiculous amount of spells available to each spellcasting class in 3.5? Just like I'm sure you got comfortable with the most common spells you encounter and quickly adapting to new spells in 3.5, I am sure you will be...
