    Magic Item Compendium

I will be getting this as soon as it comes out. I don't care if it it is all new items or if it is all reprinted items (I know what the blurb says - who knows what will actually happen). One book to collect most of the oddball gear my PC will end up having (and thus likely lower the amount of...

Does 3E/3.5 dictate a certain style of play?

You see people saying that you would "be dumb" to not multiclass in various locations. At the risk of over generalization I will say I've seen it mostly on Character Optimization Boards but most of the stuff I've read on those boards, in my opinion, is dumb. If you are playing a combat rogue...

    2006 WotC D&D Product Survivor - Round 7

Be nice to the last of the Fantastic Locations products. It must feel lonely - send it to meet its siblings.

How often do NPCs/monsters flee in your group?

Monsters and NPCs can flee? ... Seriously though; we've had a few run from a fight. But over the years since 3e came out I honestly think the number of successful flee attempts have yet to reach double digits. Between ranged attackers, ranged spells and pursuit by the party it rarely works.

What are the best classes to start a new player on?

My first reaction is to say Fighter. Help them with the feats and pick stuff that stays 'under the hood' - as in stuff that just sits on the sheet of paper and it won't matter if the player doesn't have a clue what it does. Stuff like Weapon Focus and the +2 to Saves feats. Even avoid Power...

    The Beatdown Radar

I disagree that the townspeople should thank the Paladin for killing someone out of the blue. For starters, how do the people know the Paladin is a Paladin? Because the 'Paladin' told them so? I would be very suspicious if someone walked up to one of my neighbors; shot them dead and then...

    2006 WotC D&D Product Survivor - Round 6

Fantastic Locations: Fields of Ruin I usually don't buy adventures/mini sets - so they are on my list and this is the next one in line. Ravenloft gets a pass (for now at least) because I purchased it since it was Ravenloft.

    The Beatdown Radar

I have never run into this in the games I have played in. With my current DM I am sure it would turn into something like this: Town Guard: Why did you kill Bob? Paladin: Because he detected as Evil. Town Guard: Not Bob! There is no way he could have detected as Evil. He helps orphans and...

What is the biggest appeal in playing D&D?

Killing the Big Bad Evil Guys Saving the World Slaying the Dragon Stopping the Ritual Killing the Orcs Rescuing the Princess Finding a use for all of the belonging that the dead guys won't be needing any more ... and doing all of the above with a bunch of friends.

Worse Rules that game designers have made?

Another vote for Turning Rules and for dropping Multiclass Resrictions for Paladin and Monk. A couple things I have not yet seen mentioned: The difference between Regeneration and Fast Healing. Make them the same thing! It is a real pain when a critter has both of these at once. Orbs: I...

How bad does the bard suck?

Just as limited as anyone else in the party. Sure, the wizards won't be worrying as much about armor as the fighter, but what the party spends thier gold on is their business. If Mithral is out of the Bard's budget it likely is out of everyone elses budget as well. The Bard is in no better or...

How bad does the bard suck?

Our group has been playing 3.X since it came out. Many different campaigns over the years. Our current campaign is the first one to get up to 20th level. We started at 1st and my Bard PC is one of two characters that has survived to see 20th level. I also have a rep as being a 'Kill...

Core Religion Survivor - Round Fifteen (THE FINAL ROUND!)

*sigh* I didn't want Wee Jas to win but I like Hextor even less. So long, Hexy.

Core Religion Survivor - Round Twelve

Okay... time to change tactics. In order to get rid of who I want gone (Wee Jas) I'll need to get rid of those who are currently getting all the votes. Bye bye, Moradin.

    all time Favorite module cover.

Add another vote for Ravenloft and Temple of Elemental Evil. It's hard for me to choose between the two. Both are very atmospheric pieces that say 'this is going to be cool!'

    OOTS 388 is up

Loved the strip - but then I've been playing Final Fantasy since FFI. I do think my favorite part was when Thog admitted he didn't get it. Second favorite was when Elan updated the note. Kupo kupo kuppopo!

Scoop!?! New Magic Item Format in D&D: The Complete Animated Series

If it's useful to some then it isn't really wasted space. You may never need that line but that doesn't mean some (maybe most, maybe very few) will need it. I fully agree that if they removed one or two lines, over the space of 1000+ items a lot of space will be saved allowing us to supposedly...
