    Finally got 4e: initial impressions

Ha! A question I can actually answer! ;) The Enworld download store -- there's a link in the upper righthand corner of this page, if your current page looks the same as mine. (Mind you, the books cost as much as the paper version -- I just got the PDF because that's the only thing my gift...

    Finally got 4e: initial impressions

Yes, it is. ;) But it seemed like a humorous way to sum up what I was talking about with the art. Oddly enough, one thing that hasn't bothered me yet, but which seems to bother other people, was the at-will, encounter, daily thing. I sort of tend to think that these are powers that it takes...

    Finally got 4e: initial impressions

Well, I used the prize I won in Jorgen's mythological creature wiki contest to buy a PDF copy of the 4th edition PHB today. I've only had a couple of hours to 'thumb through' it, and I still have a difficult time reading PDFs as compared to books, but I do have a couple of observations from my...

    Whoops- WotC does it again

I have no objection to people disliking 4th edition, but honestly, some of these criticisms of WotC are really, really reaching, IMO.

    Whoops- WotC does it again

Sounds like excellent packaging to me. It would make good kindling in my woodstove, and then the ash will make a fine contribution to my garden. Whereas plastic is just inconvenient. I've got to buy $3.50 recycling bags at the local store, thanks to my town's ordinances, to bring it in to the...

Witch Hunter: time for buyer's remorse?

Well, I've got the book in my hot little claws at this very moment -- first RPG I've bought in 4 years, actually -- and I'm reading through it. Will be giving the rules a spin once I've read through it once, and hopefully, 'twill work as well as those in this thread say. :) I have to say, it...

Write about a mythological creature, win a $25 ENWorld gift certificate

Holy Legumes, Batman!!!! =) You mean I won?!???!? Many thanks! :D My cheering will also bring your next contest to the top of the heap momentarily. ;)

Write about a mythological creature, win a $25 ENWorld gift certificate

So .... drum-roll, please .... And the winner is .... ? ;) P.S. I can see why there are only 2 contestants -- research material is hard to come by on the Internet for something like this. I tried finding stuff for a "Redcap" entry last night, and could only find copies of one...

Write about a mythological creature, win a $25 ENWorld gift certificate

Dangit, I've got to put it on the blog? That's what I get for hastening to get my entry in during the last few hours of a contest.

Write about a mythological creature, win a $25 ENWorld gift certificate

Actually, I was the one with the Black Shuck entry, just that I was bumbling about trying to set it up correctly on what was my second visit to your site, pretty much. I think I got it correctly now, including linking it to the Mythological Creatures page, cleaning it up, and adding a...

Write about a mythological creature, win a $25 ENWorld gift certificate

Working on an entry, hope to have it done before midnight Central time, U.S. (so it'll still technically be in by August 1st). ;)

Do RPGs' Wargaming Aspects Overshadow RPing?

I'm going to say no because what divides an RPG from a wargame is that nothing EVER happens off the battlefield in a wargame. There's no conversation, no narration, usually nothing to tie one game together to the next. Furthermore, wargames usually (though not always) concentrate on large units...

Witch Hunter: time for buyer's remorse?

Actually, it sounds like I might be in luck. I'm generally pretty sparing with combat -- I usually keep the combat scenes as few and far between as I can so that they're more dramatic and memorable. I'd rather have 2 fights in total in the adventure, that the players will talk about for weeks...

Witch Hunter: time for buyer's remorse?

Well, based on some rpg.net reviews and what I read here, I bought a copy of Witch Hunter: the Invisible World. It had a lot of elements that I like. A 17th century setting (one of my favorite historical periods except for Medieval times); the idea of at least pseudo-horror in that time...

The 15 min. adventuring day... does 4e solve it?

As a DM, I've never seen a party who conscious observed the 15 minute workday. However, I was forced to design adventures around this concept, because under the previous editions, effectiveness declines steadily and rapidly as more encounters appear. Sure, you can push your players on. But...

New name for "gish"? (forked from Character Concepts: Gish and Teleporter Mage)

I like swordcaster, myself. Or my in-campaign name, which would make no sense without a lot of context, so I'm not going to bother explaining it here. But "gish" just sounds the sound of someone stepping in a bowl of half-melted jello.

Why there's crafting in WOW and not in D&D

Honestly, I would love to see an edition of D&D which gave equal space to combat, 'social combat,' and crafting/profession rules. The arguments against crafting on the basis of grinding for materials are invalid, IMO. We are not trying to duplicate an MMO here. We're trying to take a good idea...

Witch Hunter: Are you playing? Yes? No? Why?

Well, you've talked me into ordering a copy, gents. :) I've had it with d20/D&D stuff for a while, if not forever, so this should be a refreshing change. There are a few things that I'm definitely going to tweak in the background, but one idea that I do like is the continuation of the...

SRD Question (for Scott or Linae): 4e References or just Section Headings?

From what the GSL looks like, I'd say they're defining D&D not as a set of rules, but as a whole setting like Conan or C'thulhu stuff. Thus, they want you to write stuff to supplement the 'canon,' not set up your own independent 'canon' using the same rules. That's what it looks like to me, anyway.
