    D&D 3E/3.5 Why be a 3.5 monk?

I did think of a few questions since I'm going for an AoO trip build. 1. The way I understand it my reach is now 10 ft. (for tripping with the long spear) which includes the squares i threaten for AoO, correct? 2. Does this mean my reach and the squares i threaten while enlarged (large) is 15...

    D&D 3E/3.5 Why be a 3.5 monk?

This is how i think I'm going to take my monk, I was stuck on the spiked chain because I was envisioning a real life monk with the chain whip ;) But since i can just take a long spear for tripping purposes only and not need to be able to attack with it its perfect. Thanks for all the comments...

    D&D 3E/3.5 Why be a 3.5 monk?

I just spoke with my DM, no dice on the spiked chain. He did say I could create an improvised weapon using a chain or rope and a heavy dart or spike on the end of it, but then i'd take a -4 penalty on attack rolls. :erm: I may just go ahead and take the exotic weapon feat when i roll warrior...

    D&D 3E/3.5 Why be a 3.5 monk?

lucky you, seems like your DM sees the monks plight and tries to help him out a bit. My DM on the other hand thinks monks are gods gift to D&D.

    D&D 3E/3.5 Why be a 3.5 monk?

I hadn't thought, didn't realize that it would protect against friendly spells. I'm def. not taking any more levels in monk. unfortunately our DM is only allowing core books, so no pounce for me =(

    D&D 3E/3.5 Why be a 3.5 monk?

I was actually just looking at the spiked chain, though it does not list it in the PHB as being a monk weapon, it should not matter with me taking fighter levels. EDIT: Im not seeing how spiked chain is considered a monk weapon? you said you had an excellent pc monk, is 'pc' a book that allows...

    D&D 3E/3.5 Why be a 3.5 monk?

I guess diamond soul just sounded more useful on paper, I do see what you are saying about higher levels. Our encounters seem to be leaning more and more toward save or die scenarios. My monk has been fun and felt effective up until about level 10, since then I have been noticing the other...

    D&D 3E/3.5 Why be a 3.5 monk?

I hope this thread isn't too old for this post to be considered a necrobump. I'm looking for some advice on where to take my monk I expressed some interest in rolling a monk (this is my first D&D char) and the DM talked him up pretty mighty and has been insisting that take him all the way to...
