I will even agree with that statement and agree that it does have a lot of advantages. It's just not how I have played the game and not how the people I play with would be happy playing. I wouldn't mind it though, frankly trying to corral these rage monkeys problem players into some semblance of...

You are right. However if you choose to play your 6 strength character like a musclebound hulking pillar of strength there are in game mechanics that prohibit that. Mainly negatives to any roll he makes to do anything with strength. If your trying to use Strength verse a giant or guard or...

That post got to me. I didn't think of it like that but you are right. Because a lot of the social skills are very vague I just figured that the player would do what felt right for her character but it might/would create some confusion in a newer player wanting to know just what that means...

    Removing Initiative

Oh Gods not that $#$%$. Craig is like the DM's bane. My condolences. Kill Craig for me! When you do it, tell him"This is for Gameogres Fishmonger NPC's" Thanks!

Please explain how someone who is shy and quite at the game table ( a new player perhaps) who is playing a Highly Charismatic Bard skilled at persuasion is on equal footing when the INT 6 wis 8 Barbarian half orc played by a long time rpg veteran who is also a skilled used car salesman? Use the...

Those sentences do not work together. I understand what you are trying to say and its great that you do what works for you. However, I just don't allow followed by They can do whatever they want, doesn't work. A lot of people would see that as VERY limiting. Don't get me wrong, I understand...

All of this is hogwash. The side in favor of skill verse skill for persuasion isn't in favor of persuasion being if you lose you have to go along with anything. Only that you were persuaded. It's not a doesn't work at all or you are a slave to whatever plan or idea was trying to be gotten...

Ridding D&D of All Races - Multiple Choice Poll

I am fine with 10,000 races. The more options for the DM the better. I am also fine for the DM to limit available races based on setting. I love the thought of a setting with none of the standard races but a plethora of non-standard races to choose from.

The Player said"yeah i don't care, I don't want to do that. who gives a #$#$ about this village? I want to go get some xp from that dungeon we left last week." When the player of the rogue started to talk to him in character he said"No XP in that crap man". When I forced him to react in...

Thanks everyone for the awesome posts. You gave me a lot to think about. The matter is resolved to my satisfaction but we will see how it goes.

The fact that that IS role playing to you, means a lot. Making up your characters mind despite the entire world around them is rarely role playing. Role playing is playing a character and REACTING to the outside influences going on around you.

Because if players are not going to role play at all.. There are a TON of better games to be playing. If you want Fantasy without role playing go play Skyrim or World of Warcraft. MUCH BETTER games if you don't want to role play. Really all tabletop rpg's have over those other games is role...

and I would have no problems with that. Frankly I don't care. I'm fine and even suggested one of the options be no pvp at all. I mean it's rare as it is and about the only time the table gets interrupted is when it happens. Why not just cross it off and people have their characters get along...

I kind of agree with this view. With one exception. Players are less likely to out and out ignore something if they had to make a check for it. Even my tactical guys if they get intimidated will have their characters react to that in some way. Maybe it would be to all out attack the npc who did...

Oh sure. Just because the rogue convinced him to help doesn't mean he is forced to do whatever the bard wanted. Maybe he considered the villagers horrible and they will betray the party and while his good hearted friend fell for there tricks the barb isn't about to. Maybe he does something else...

Honestly to some extent your right. I am aggravated with the opposite views inferior opinion(in my opinion) and was wanting to either be swayed that I was wrong (and that happened to a certain degree, I think for a game with no pc verse pc action allowed that yes the player was right) or to get...

Also at no time was anyone suggesting that "YOU FAILED THE CHECK,NOW YOU DO WHATEVER HE SAID" That would be mind control. No What I was suggesting is that "YOU figure out how your character acted with the idea that he now was influenced by the other character". See the difference? Do you...

That is funny as heck. I guess you believe in real life mind control being used millions of time per day across the world. THAT EXACT thing happens EVERY day. This is the best reason why I cant understand the other sides view really. It's so common it might very well happen right here in this...

Correction. You decide to attempt to hold to your conviction to not help the villagers but that dang Bard started talking and now you are lifting lumber to help repair the barn.
