Billie Piper to quit Dr Who

The BBC actually announced this last year before the first new season had finished broadcasting. Shortly after Eccleston said he wasn't staying, I think it was. There was actually some doubt that she would even be in the current season. Consequently I've been wondering all this season how...

    Prestige Class: Husband

I'm picking up this PrC this saturday :) But you left out the pre-req involving giving up one of your ring slots.

    Top 10 odd D&D weapons

My current rog/ftr/brb would like to be first in line for a depleted-uranium-ball-enhanced greatsword. In seriousness, though, what about a mace-type weapon operating on this sort of concept? Perhaps instead of a tube of toxic liquid metal or little balls of radioactive doom, what about rings...

    Dice Questions?

A question for you dice collectors... When you actually play games involving dice, do you have a specific set that you use? Or do you just pull randomly from the horde?

Have You Introduced New People to RPGs?

Several over the course of the past decade and a half or so. Most of them have either stuck with it or would have given time and opportunity. Currently working on my fiancee so that she won't be jealous of me spending time with her friends (who were my friends before I met her but were her...

Where do you prefer to do your roleplaying? (Online vs. Tabletop)

Tabletop for me. A large part of my fun comes from hanging out with people, eating munchies, the rattle of the dice, and poorly drawn maps under a scattering of minis and random bit tokens on the battlemat. I'd play online if I could find a game that looked good because, as others have said...

50 rods of rope'll run ye tuppence, squire

I'ts not really that I want players to think of silver as being special. I've played DarkSun where they did essentially this (or at least our DM did.. I don't think I ever actually read the campaign book). The base trade unit was a ceramic triangle, 1/8th of a circle. Eight of those were a...

    Party Choices...

I voted Psi because I've had very little chance to play 3.5 psionics. The stealthy party sounds fun, as do the arcane weirdos but honestly if the other players are good then I'd play in any party. I've done all casters, no casters... it's all good so long as the DM can roll with it.

    What are you reading? [June]

Currently reading Charles Stross' The Family Trade. Next up I have Rainbow's End by Vernor Vinge and Abbarat by Clive Barker. If I can find it in the near future, I'd like to pick up Robert Charles Wilson's Blind Lake and Vellum: The Book of all Hours by Hal Duncan looks interesting, but is in...

    Top 10 odd D&D weapons

Preface: I know very little about real 14th-16th century European combat weapons. First, I'd like to throw a little support the way of big dummy. He's getting pounded by everyone for knowing too much about period weapons and combat for his own good on a d&d forum. It reminds me a great deal...

50 rods of rope'll run ye tuppence, squire

I've never been very happy about D&D economics but I understand that the rapid increase in price of magic items is largely due to people's desire to find piles of gold along with the need to keep PCs from having enough money for +5 swords at 3rd level. So I'm thinking that the next campaign I...

Purposely NOT filling the four roles

I've seen relatively few parties with the big four covered precisely. Usually it's the healer that's missing and we muddle through with NPC hirelings, potions, and items. My current game has far too much skill-monkey and far too little tank. There's me (Rog3/Ftr3/Brb1 with high stats of...

Running mood altering devices - Advice?

I'm working up some ideas for a potential campaign to run this fall and a large part of the overall plot will revolve around some cursed items. I'm planning to borrow an opening I read in another thread here that really caught my attention: the characters all find themselves in a room holding...

How strict is your DM with mundane equipment?

I'm generally of the 'it has to be on your sheet' persuasion, but I also assume that any adventurer over 1st level is going to know he needs to pack rope, a hatchet, a tinderbox, his mess kit, and a bedroll if he's going further than the farms outside of town. When I'm playing rather than DMing...

What books are you looking forward to?

Couple of new books out recently that I'm looking forward to getting: Vellum: The Book of All Hours by Hal Duncan, Rainbow's End by Vinge, and Charles Stross' new Family Trade series book, the title of which I've forgotten. Kim Harrison's Fistful of Charms was supposed to be out around the...

Doctor Who 28.8 The Impossible Planet

I thought the simple makeup was a lot more effective than a bunch of rubbery prosthesis or whatnot would have been. Particularly the scene where the posessed guy (was his name Will, maybe?) was out on the surface in hard vacuum felt very sinister and unearthly. Seeing an alienized thing...

War of the Dragon Queen - Complete set list and pictures!

What? No love for the godslayer? It's big, it's got a lot of teeth, there's a really big sword involved and the skull of something equally large... It's not the most awesome thing I've ever seen and I could certainly think of better things to make a Huge mini out of, but it would make for a...

    Is D&D Your Favorite RPG?

D&D (of any version) doesn't have my ideal rule system (I think I'd prefer something more like HERO, but with templates to smooth character creation). D&D doesn't have my favorite setting (which varies... currently I have a thing for steampunk which I've yet to see done really well Anywhere...

What are the biggest real-life hinderances to your gaming?

I clicked nearly all of them, but happily my gaming possibilities are about to open up tremendously. For the past 4 years I've been doing full time school (more like over-time school what with getting a double major in math and physics) plus full time work and a girlfriend (now fiancee, to be...
