Is the "official D&D product" really that big a deal?

When 3.0 was first released I bought a lot of 3rd party D20 product. I was just so enamored with the whole open game/D20 system concept. I did allow myself to buy some things that turned out to be not so good, but over all I still enjoy most of my purchases. I haven't really encorporated much...

Can You Guys Help Me Get My Head Around Chaotic Neutral? Now with Bonus Material!

Yes, I see your point. The true nuetral alignment does seem to fit the average "don't rock the boat" type person. Yet I was thinking in terms of Chaotic in the sense of resisting the intrusion of authority into an individual's life. Commoners tend to keep to themselves to a point, yet resist...

Can You Guys Help Me Get My Head Around Chaotic Neutral? Now with Bonus Material!

I've always believed the average DnD commoner/villager would be more likely to be chaotic neutral than lawful good, as they are often listed. Most villagers tend to keep to themselves, mind their own business, and try not to attract the attention of those more powerful than they are. After...

Monte Cooks WoD is for 3.5

Hmm. Interesting. I haven't played any WoD since the 90's. I'd give this a look at least. I thought Monte wasn't doing any game design any more though...

25 Years of Dungeons and Dragons

That's really great. I truly envy all you longtime campaigners. I started playing D&D in the 5th grade (the red box) in 1984, but we were told we couldn't play in school because a group of mothers got together and decided it was " of the devil". :D My first steady group was in 1992 while I...

Question for DL fans about tinker gnomes

Speaking of tinker gnomes in spelljammer. In an old spelljammer campaign I played in one of the PC's tinker gnome made all kinds of weird gizmos that improved our ship, but looked odd. We wanted to make the ship's hull stand up better to combat so the tinker gnome attached tin can lids to the...

    Game session abruptly canceled

I don't want to whip a dead horse, but... OK. One thing that kind of surprised me on this thread were the people who assumed that I have no clue what a pain it is to deal with 2 little kids and try to go anywhere. True I am not a parent, but the reason I was driving an hour to M & K's to play...

Hey thanks for this site. I use it nearly every day. I am now a supporter.

    You know what I hate?

You know, I agree with you about that gnome enclave in Shackled City. I was a player during that one and I found it a bit of a let down when we would finally get into one of those locked rooms to find that there was just nothing at all in it.

    You know what I hate?

Undermountain Undermountain came in handy for me with one of my old groups. They had a tremendous fear of "railroading" and wanted to be able to go anywhere in the dungeon at any time. I didn't bother with making any plot per say. I filled most sessions with encounters that I could plug into...

    Beauty and the D&D Geek!

That's true sometimes, but there are some bars where shotgirls are just hot girls who carry around a tray of shots like schnapps or some such and try to flirt guys into spending money on shots. Sadly It doesn't take much for a hot girl to convince a lot of guys to spend money on anything. i know...

    Game session abruptly canceled

Update Well, M and I have talked and made our peace. M is an EnWorlder and has been reading the thread. Being able to work this out in this forum has really helped me . Thank you to all of you. I figured that fellow gamers were the only ones who could understand the situation from both points...

    The Irregulars

I liked how one of the D&D adaptations of diablo included the save and town portal options. That would work pretty well for a casual group.

    Game session abruptly canceled

You know I don't think I would have been as upset if had been any one else but my nephew. If it was a friend or even just a casual game group member I would have been annoyed, but not hurt.

    Game session abruptly canceled

Yeah you're right I reacted out of anger and frustration. I couldn't put it into rational words at the time. The first words out of my mouth when I called him back were "I'm PO'ed". I know that automatically triggers defensiveness, but I was incapable of reason at the time. I'm still tore up...

    Game session abruptly canceled

What you said really made sense to me. You read between the lines. Are you a psycologist? If only I could have put it that way. I was just too upset at the time.

    Game session abruptly canceled

Actually Dire Bare I think you hit on the real problem. Its not about the kids at all. Its about me feeling pooped on because the one time I asked for a compromise on playing where it was better for me in over a year it couldn't be done. Again I'm not saying its rational its just how I feel. A...

    The Irregulars

The idea of episodic sessions does have advantages for a group with chaotic schedules. The Star Trek rpg by Last Unicorn encoraged it. I've never been able to put it into practice though.
