    HEROES Vol 5 #5:Hysterical Blindness/Season 4/09

This season has had its interesting moments, but it feels like two episodes worth stretched over five. I'll keep tuning in (I've stuck with it through far worse), but I'm not really feeling like they have a strong direction for the show to go in.

    [Trailer] Solomon Kane

Actually it clearly does add something to the character. Whether it is interesting to you is obviously your call. In a movie, a good supporting character needs a signature scene instead of backstory. Han Solo is a supporting character. In this movie, Kane is the protagonist, like Luke. Should...

    LOL, agreed.

I thought you were referring to the Johnny Depp film for a minute. I picked up that Superman/Batman comic too (mostly because I'm a huge mark for Ed McGuinness's art) and I was mostly pleased with it. I agree that the ending was pants (as the say across the pond). I've lost a lot of faith in...

    [Trailer] Solomon Kane

Both Spider-Man and Batman's origin stories are integral to their character. They would be shadows of the characters they are without them. Without the death of his parents as the motivator for his war on crime, Batman would be but a mysterious vigilante. Without the death of his Uncle Ben...

    [Trailer] Solomon Kane

It did? I thought that the movies were 45 mins too long and crowded with usesless double-crosses detracted from the movie. Jack's background and motivations were just fine with me. Tell that to Spider-Man or Batman.

    Flashforward

Apparently the 20 years thing was because the network was really hesitant to show anything futuristic-looking. Supposedly they have market data that says X percentage (60%? More? I can't remember) of viewers will change the channel if they see something that looks like science-fiction. That and...

No he steered away from that. I suspect he was trying to avoid spoiling things for anyone who hadn't read the book.

    Flashforward

I just got back from a viewing of it at our local McNally Robinson. Rob Sawyer (the author of the original book) was there and was telling us about the making of the show beforehand and during the commercial breaks. It was really cool. And the show was amazing. Hopefully it gets picked up for...

    [September] What are you reading?

Yeah it's been excellent so far. I might pick up the WoT finale too, and that's after giving up after book 6.

    [September] What are you reading?

On my daily commute I'm reading Mistborn, and on my nightstand is Guns, Germs, and Steel. They've both been very good so far. Yesterday I picked up the first five books of the Black Company series, plus Poul Anderson's The Winter of the World, David Drake's Lord of the Isles, and Heinlein's...

Well they didn't screw that one up. That was 31 flavours of awesome.

    The library of Neil Gaiman

Woah, that's crazy. My friend works at one of the local big-chain bookstores, and he has shelves and shelves of genre books (comics, novels, etc) too (though nowhere near as many as Neil). For our group of friends his place is kind of a nerd Mecca. :p

    Kevin Smith fall Tour?

I'm a huge fan of his, and it's tempting to go see him in Minneapolis, but I'm just too broke. Sucks. :(

    Iron Man 2 leaked footage

Yes, though supposedly when he gets the armour he is kind of a combo of Omega Red and Crimson Dynamo (and the character is even Russian).

    Iron Man 2 leaked footage

Supposedly he gets a full-on suit of armour later.

Peter Jackson's influence on The Hobbit

I don't think we have to worry about that, personally. I'm sure he's more aware of what the story is about than that. After watching Pan's Labyrinth, the Hellboy movies and Blade II, I'm confident that Del Toro will handle the Hobbit appropriately. Then hopefully he'll be able to make Mountains...

    Spoiler-y review of Transformers!

I saw this one and enjoyed it so much I'm going to pick it up on DVD! Do you suppose there any toys for this property or anything? Maybe a TV show? The spinoff potential is enormous! ;)

    Coraline

I enjoyed it quite a bit, but I didn't like the 3D. I found it more a nuisance than an innovation and would have rather watched it without it (felt the same about Up). The only really amazing 3D movie I've seen is an Imax movie about dinosaurs.
