    Amnizu-Fiendish Codex 2

Thanks. Since it mentions bearded devils as their typical guardians in the description (in FC2) I think I will substitute them for advespa.

    Amnizu-Fiendish Codex 2

Does anyone know what kind of baatezu amnizu devils can summon? The stat block has the ability listed, but no details as to what kind, how many, what success rate, etc.

    Two short questions.

    1. Can a tied-up, gagged druid use his wildshape ability? 2. Can a character with the "helpless" condition speak, cast stilled and/or stilled/silent spells, activate an item or ability that uses mental commands, etc?

    Wizards Website Survey

Took the survey, and now wish I could change one answer: under "How to improve DDI" I should have put "Include full support for all 3.5 products." That would get me to subscribe in a heartbeat.

Sor/Wiz with Ring of Wizardry 1

Thanks. I took it that way too, but just wanted to make sure.

Sor/Wiz with Ring of Wizardry 1

If a Sor/Wiz wears a Ring of Wizardry 1 (doubles base 1st-level spells per day), does it double those of both classes, or must he choose which one gets doubled? The item description says "The wearer's arcane spells per day are doubled for one specified spell level."

    Harpy Captivating Song

The area of effect is a 300' spread. Is that a 300' radius, or a 300' diameter (150' radius centered on the harpy) spread?

    Digging a hole

    a. You're welcome! b. It really depends on how many people are working on it. I would allow a group of four to dig the pits and build the wall/cover all at the same time, in the amount of time required to dig the pits. I wouldn't want to get into calculating how far they are carrying the dirt...

    Digging a hole

A 5' x 5' x 10' pit contains 250 cubic feet of material. Basing it on Gary Gygax's World Builder book, and rounding up his figure of 124 lbs./cu. ft. to 125 lbs., it contains 31,250 pounds of common soil. I would allow a character to dig an amount equal to his heavy load maximum in 1 minute...

What is the point of the Rules Compendium?

No more going to different books for different rules. The only two books I have at the table now are it and the Spell Compendium (which I will eliminate once I get all of the spells programmed into DMGenie). Much easier than having to have two or three (or more) books open to run one encounter.

Inherent abilities in place of gear?

The 3.0 Edition Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting (pg. 68) has a 2nd-level wizard spell called Create Magic Tattoo that does this. They have a 10 min casting time, require a Craft skill check (DC 10-20) and last 24 hours, 3 per character at any one time. Effects rise as you increase in level...

How Many Battles Per Gaming Session?

The last two encounters we have had have covered multiple game sessions (once per month, 6 hours each) in a 3.5 homebrew campaign. The current one, between five 15th and 16th-level PC's and 69 opponents ranging from 2-HD zombies to fiendish ogres with up to 8 character levels each has been going...

Where 3E and 4E players stand in the great 3E disputes

    1. Psionics: Good or Bad? Not allowed since a player abused them in my first 1E campaign in 1982. 2. Tome of Battle: The antichrist or best thing that ever happened? When I first opened the book to preview it and saw a maneuever that allowed a fighter to do fire damage to all opponents within...

Tell me about your D&D group

DM (me) and two players since 1982; two steady and three occasional players since the early-to-mid nineties. All male, early thirties to mid-forties. They include two vacuum truck drivers, a town sewer system supervisor, three factory/warehouse workers, a computer programmer, and a computer...

    trading backstory for some xp?

I have do the same thing for about the same time period, with a much lower lack of participation (10%, maybe). I even offered XP bonuses to anyone who wants to flesh out part of the campaign, be it an NPC or a country. So far, one player partly detailed a small town, for which I gave his 6th...

    Nypmh's blindess ability

It specifically states in the description of supernatural abilities that Dispel Magic spells will not work, even as counterspells. Remove Blindness will, as it is not dispelling the effect, but healing it.

Divine defiance from fiendish codex 2

I would say that you can. Unlike the Divine Metamagic and Divine Spell Power feats (from Complete Divine), Divine Defiance does not specify anywhere in the text that it applies only to divine spells. The only stipulations it has are that you must have the same spell memorized as the one you are...

Ray of Ice vs. Spellcaster using Fly spell.

    1. If a flying spellcaster (30' above the ground, under the effects of the fly spell, PH 232) is hit by a Ray of Ice (SC 167) and fails his Reflex save, would he be frozen to the ground or just have his feet encased in ice, allowing him to continue to fly? The spell states that "the target must...

Confirmed: Magic items and summoned monster stats in PHB

Yes, I have determined what creatures exist in my campaign world. As others have said, the PC's can only shapechange into creatures they have encountered or are otherwise familiar with. As far as summons go, I only allow a divine PC to summon a creature of the same alignment (or within one step...

Confirmed: Magic items and summoned monster stats in PHB

    1. Having magic items in the Player's Handbook keeps players from having to reference other books if they are the only items the player character can possess. Otherwise, it is no different from the current system of having items scattered throughout multiple books which may or may not be owned...
