    Why won't you switch?

No, they did not make me. I was excited about the possibilities I saw with 3E and wanted to run a 3E campaign. My group of players (the core of which has been together since 1982) felt they had invested enough in 2E that changing over was not a good financial decision. I made the decision to...

    Why won't you switch?

    1. To switch over to 3.0 and 3.5, I had to announce to the group we were changing, purchase everyone (9 players plus myself) Players Handbooks, and do all conversions. I choose not to invest that kind of time or money a third time. 2. My players are not interested. 3. I have spent too much...

    Quiver of Ehlonna-extra arrows

Any reason that a character could not store additional arrows in the javelin-sized chamber? If you can, how many is a reasonable number? An additional 60, or would you calculate it by weight (18 javelins=36 pounds, 36/3 pounds per 20 arrows= 12 pounds of arrows, 12*20=240 arrows), or what?

Do multiple caster level bonuses stack?

Right. It has a direct impact on the combat we are in the middle of, where he is tossing medium- and long-range spells from near maximum range. The extra 20'-80' of distance can make a difference in the targets he can affect. It also affects caster level checks, such as those for greater dispel...

Do multiple caster level bonuses stack?

He has taken Practiced Spellcaster in both classes. Would you reach the same conclusion if the caster levels applied to more than one spell? Say, for instance, if a domain gave you +1 caster level to a class of spell (such as healing, good, etc.)? What if the Arcane Thesis spell has that...

Do multiple caster level bonuses stack?

If a character gains multiple bonuses to caster level (for example, has the Practiced Spellcaster and Arcane Thesis feats), would they stack? As a specific example, if a Cleric 3/Wizard 3 /Mystic Theurge 9 has those two feats, would he cast his thesis spell as a Wizard 17 or Wiz 15?

Using Heal skill to actually cure wounds without rest.

Proposed additional use of the Heal skill: As a full-round action that incurs an attack of opportunity, you may attempt to cure the hit point damage of a conscious, wounded target. You must have at least one rank in Heal to use this ability. Roll a Heal check. For every point your roll...

What I don't get RE: FR and High Level NPC's

The novels seem to have become more of a way to introduce and sell new game mechanics than to provide a good, entertaining story (although some of them still do). It began with the changeover to 3rd Edition (the Waterdeep/Tantras/Shadowdale books) and has continued to this day (the Lady Penitent...

Do fast healing and regeneration stack?

You are correct. Undead have no Constitution score, and you must have a Constitution score to have the regeneration ability (MM pg. 314). The example creature would only have fast healing. If, however, there is a template/creature combination that would grant both, or two spells or abilities...

what to do if you gave too much power?

The current party in my campaign had gotten so out-of-whack from an item standpoint that I recently paralyzed the entire party with a Blasphemy spell from a mature adult half-demon white dragon. His allies captured the party and took all of their gear. The party later escaped and made their way...

To ALL ENWorlders: Did you play 1E AD&D?

I began playing in 1982 as an AD&D DM. Still DM a 3.5 homebrew game today that includes two players who started playing the same day I did-as two of the first three PC's in my campaign. I have rarely had the chance to run a PC (just a few one-shot adventures and in two campaigns that lasted less...

Multiple Hailstones-single or multiple attack rolls?

The Hailstones spell (Spell Compendium pg. 109) creates 1-4 hailstones that require a ranged touch attack to strike the target(s). It is an instantaneous evocation. If you target more than one enemy with the hailstones, do you roll a single attack roll for all of the hailstones, or make an...

How Many Characters In Your Party? (read post 1 first)

Six players with 7 PC's in a 13th-14th level 3.5 game. One player is running his son's character (whose work schedule regularly prevents him from attending) as an NPC. Until recently, it was 7 players with 8 PC's and 1 NPC (one player was running two PC's, another was running an NPC Healer)...

    Special Ability advancement

Base CR is 9. If advanced by 12 HD, CR becomes 12. Increasing his command undead level to Cleric 15 would enable him to rebuke undead with up to 19 HD (vs. 16 HD at level 12), Turning Damage would increase by 3 (average of 25 HD vs. 22 with a Cha of 16) and he could command those of up to 7 HD...

    Special Ability advancement

The winterspawn (Frostburn pg. 161) has an extraordinary ability that allows it to command undead as a 12th level cleric (it is a 12 HD undead). If I advance it to maximum HD (24), does it then command undead as a 24th level cleric? Also, it has the spell-like ability to create a fire shield on...

Extra Spell Feat = Extra Confusing [2006 Thread]

While I can find no reference to wizards and sorcerers only being able to learn spells from the wizard/sorcerer list, I did find a reference in the DMG (pg. 35) under "Creating New Spells" that "Wizards and sorcerers should not cast healing spells...". It is (to me) more of a flavor issue. I...

    Greater Masterwork?

I have it. Essentially, the higher you beat the Craft skill check DC, the more "benefits" you can add to an item, up to a total of 6 (which requires beating the skill check by 25+, and takes 20 times longer to craft). You can even stack the same benefit up to three times on a really good skill...

I looked right over that. Thanks!

Thrall of Orcus Death Touch ability.

Text of ability: "Death Touch (Sp): An 8th-level thrall of Orcus can force a living creature hit with a touch attack to attempt a Fortitude save (DC 10 + thrall's class level + thrall's Cha bonus). If the target fails its save, it dies." Am I correct in that the Thrall of Orcus prestige class...

Quick - Enhancement Bonus and Touch AC

You are correct. The enhancement bonuses make the armor and shield bonuses higher. If you do not get the armor or shield bonus to your AC, the enhancement bonuses would have no effect.
