Should Campaign Settings include a metaplot?

No. I love Iron Kingdoms, but hate the metaplot (hate that it exists, I like the idea of ongoing war for the setting). I know I can ignore it, but it's just not the same. That is why I like Greyhawk so much, and may be one of the few who do not want WotC to revive the setting. I have a...

Ken Hite Re: The RPG Industry

Agreed. Most of my purchases are PDF now. I have many bookshelves in my house filled with books that would require a truck to haul, whereas my laptop holds almost everything I need in one small package. Most of my purchases are PDF, with the exception of items that are not available in PDF...

High Level Enemies: Epic or Near Epic?

Higher level enemies in my campaign tend to be uber-high, but they are also the masterminds behind all the bad things going on. Aberrations are my bad guy of choice, probably due to my love of Call of Cthulhu. Lords of Darkness was great in the portrayal of those epic level Aboleth and...

How would you make an Epic city?

I am actually working up a near epic scale city. By the time the characters reach it they will be 15th level. The idea was similar to Skullport from the Realms, where a city lies hidden in a vast labyrinth. In my situation the city is the center of a kingdom ruled by one or more dragons...

Is there a template for this

I second Advanced Bestiary. Very good book with lots of template ideas. A little too heavy on Undead templates, but very good nonetheless. Also, though it is not a template book, the Magical Society Beast Builder book pretty much lays out all the figures/CRs for building monsters from scratch.

    D&D needs improvement

To answer above poster, Endoren (I will never figure out quoting on any freakin' board I am on), Hackmaster, which I do enjoy, was used as an example because it has a complete, complex, if somewhat tongue-in-cheek rules system. Specifically, I was referring to the weapons vs. armor and the...

    Palladium?

Never really cared one way or the other for KS. I pays my money, I gets my products. There aren't too many systems I cannot mine for ideas, and Rifts/Palladium/BTS/Etc. are pretty good sources for ideas. As well, GURPS, Rolemaster, Cthulhu, old school D&D, and a host of systems are great for...

Do You Use Your RPG Rules as Written?

Yes, RAW. Otherwise I use another system to simulate what I wish to use. Of course D&D still has Rule Zero(?) Maybe, Rules as Designed might have been a good option?

    D&D needs improvement

Why do some many people complain about hit points and armor class so much? The system is abstract. Ever since OD&D it has been abstract. Hit points represent increasing skill and intestinal fortitude, luck, a little help from the gods, etc.. Armor class does not mean you are not hit, it...

    Rules for Immortals?

Are there any rules for immortal characters in 3.5? There are guidelines in Deities and Demigods, but I am looking for something more. I don't know how much of the Epic Level Handbook is invalid for 3.5, but would it just be easier to run Epic level characters? My only experience with...

    World of Warcraft RPG (d20)

I was actually thinking of starting a new campaign in this setting. I've used Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, Iron Kingdoms, home brew, and some Eberron. I am torn between WoW and City State of the Invincible Overlord. I have never played the computer version of this nor any other game. I am...

Are you doing your part to destroy the industry?

I shop Amazon if I want a hard copy, RPGNow or Drive thru if I am content with a pdf. It's not my job to support my FLGS. It wouldn't surprise me if buying PDFs are better for the industry, I mean, what is the overhead there? Oh, and if they pdf costs about the same as the hardcopy, I go...

    Quitting a group & starting anew..ground rules?

I don't think most of these rules are unreasonable. They seem to have been written with some emotion behind them (It was stated that these are not exact quotes of the rules) and it seems that the group originally agreed on/created the rules. For my part, I try to game with adults, not adult...
