    Combat Challenge- multiple targets

Plus it's that much more likely that one of the marked enemies will do something that will trigger your CC attack! It's not as easy as it may seem... And if the DM really wants to, he can play the enemies in a way that they never provoke an OA or CC.

    Cloud of Knives kills minions?

Did you notice the power right beneath Rain of Blows, Sweeping Blow? It can grant up to 8 attacks, and is also a level 3 encounter power. Rain of Blows allows the X attacks it gives to be focused or spread around, which balances it out. For Rain of Blows to be clear, the Weapon: line should be...

    D&D 4E The problem with 4e

I think that some might try to find flaws with the system just to get a cookie for "outsmarting WotC". But everyone plays as they like, and I find these discussions often lead to a deeper knowledge and understanding of the rules, at least for me. :)

    Cloud of Knives kills minions?

Slightly off-topic, but I can't help but think of the bible when you say that... But yeah - you can't really expect everything to be written perfectly and with clear examples when you have only so many pages and so much cool content, and so you end up either choosing the interpretation...

The best of feats, the worst of feats...

For a 3.x feat it would actually be quite good, but I just don't find it up-to-par compared to the other 4e feats. That +1 may never make a difference, and even if it does, the chance of it happening is pretty slim. I just don't see my character ever taking this feat, unless I was making a...

D&D 4E Which role is least important in 4E?

Controller. Our group only has three players currently, and we have two defenders (fighter and paladin) and a striker (ranger). The paladin has some healing and both the fighter (multiclass wizard) and paladin (dragonborn) have AoE minion-control abilities. If you asked me whether we need a...

    Cloud of Knives kills minions?

Plenty of people disagree with you, though, just read the forums on the topic. And even if you're right, the fact that plenty of people disagree prove my point - there are rules in the books that aren't that intuitive and may be misunderstood no matter how many times you read the RAW. I can...

    Cloud of Knives kills minions?

Actually I think he has a point, although I disagree with his interpretation of the rules. Other powers have the same type of problem, where it's unclear which part of the description is which, and what affects what. For example, the fighter encounter 3 attack Rain of Blows split the forums...

    Cloud of Knives kills minions?

I'm not sure what the rules exactly say, but the zone-effect of Cloud of Daggers is an effect that is not tied to the attack roll hit/miss; it is not indented after the "hit" section. I'd say that that's why it still damages the minion - it's not a part of the "miss" section, which minions are...

The best of feats, the worst of feats...

There are many I like, and of course your race and class are big factors... That said: Heroic tier: The good: - Armor Proficiency feats (+1 AC with a feat is a pretty good deal for most classes - if you can swing the ability requirements) - Blade Opportunist (combined with Polearm Gamble and a...

    Longspear strategy (or lack thereof)

4e has some obviously powerful and cool weapons, like the glaive (heavy blades are awesome), the longsword (extra +1 to attack, the basic weapon for shield-users), the maul (great damage and hammer rhythm rocks), and the scimitar (high crit and scimitar dance) just to mention a few. One of the...

    Question about Fighters

I just have to say that both OAs (with Combat Superiority) and Combat Challenge are pretty awesome if you get into situations where you can use them! I had a lot of fun with my fighter last night, finished 2 or 3 enemies (minions and wounded enemies) just with OA and CC, and was a general...

    D&D 4E Advice on running a 4e game for a single player

Ignore the rules for XP and treasure, and give as much as seems appropriate. Try to make the encounters challenging but not impossible - use either swarms of minions OR the BBEG, not both (unless they're at a low encounter level). Make the battles meaningful, have the really nasty enemies...

    Sweeping Blow

Ah, good point. Although Combat Challenge will never kick in when the enemy makes an actual move, only a shift or attack will activate it, so I suppose the enemy can shift away without you being able to stop him, but since a move provokes an OA, it will stop him. Right?

    D&D 4E You Don't Need a Healer in 4E... Yeah Right!

We'll see how our group fares - we're one player short of a full 4-role team, and nobody wanted to play a leader or a controller... So we now have a ranger, a fighter/wizard, and a paladin who might multiclass into warlord. Basically, the fighter (me) will try to control the battlefield as...

    Multiclassing Feats & Powers

Well obviously you wouldn't be any good as a leader who heals others during combat, but you can cure diseases and other negative conditions, which is what healers (in the traditional sense of the word) are all about.

    Multiclassing Feats & Powers

How about an Eladrin Fighter/Wizard with Ritual Caster and Thievery taken through Eladrin Education? You could play the role of the fighter, the wizard, the healer (via rituals) or the rogue, depending on the situation... :P PS: remarkably civilized discussion, really a pleasure to read!

    Sweeping Blow

I think you might be confusing this case with Combat Superiority, which cancels the (move) action that provoked the Combat Challenge extra attack. Paladins' attacks do not stop the movement, unless the free attack kills (or immobilizes) the enemy.

Is three strikers and a leader a viable party ?

I would also say that 4 characters and no official leader may be problematic... And you don't even have a fighter who could sorta take care of himself (lots of self-heal powers). I haven't played the game that much yet, but I expect it has been balanced thinking you have a healer. The paladin...

    Sure Strike and damage

I think there's some confusion here: when you make the attack roll for OA you get to add both your Str and Wis bonus, but I don't think you get a damage bonus from Wis. In short, whenever your attack deals damage that you roll (for example 1[w] or 2d6) you get to add your item damage bonuses...
