    Why D&D is like pr0n

    12. Trying out any "interesting" moves in real life generally doesn't go over too well. "Uh, how did this happen? Well, doc, it went like this..."

How do you handle players who arrive late and players who leave early?

Heh, I guess that's what we all get for suddenly deciding to play D&D now instead of starting in high school like everybody else. Funnily enough this partly started because we joke around that we're getting "old" and don't have the stamina for happy hour + hit the clubs till breakfast anymore...

A Journey to There and Back (My experiences learning how to make skill challenges)

Talk about serendipitous! I am running the same skill challenge tomorrow and am trying to rework it to make it more interesting. This is full of great ideas. Thank you very much for sharing this. I have to spread XP around before giving it to jbear again. Boo.

How do you handle players who arrive late and players who leave early?

DING DING DING! This is precisely the group's situation. Thank you for keeping that in mind with your reply. This really isn't a case of problem players, or people disrespecting the DM or the rest of the group's time, or players being immature and "standing up" the DM and the group. It's...

How do you handle players who arrive late and players who leave early?

No. Sorry, I should've been clear about that. The reason I'm asking is because, like I said above, all our schedules are such that we all work around someone having to arrive later than everyone else and others having to leave a bit earlier because it's either that or we wait for an available...

How do you handle players who arrive late and players who leave early?

It's crazy hard to for my group and I to find a good time for everyone to get together. For the next session, one of the players will be arriving late (business meeting) and another will be leaving early (prayer meeting). It's either work with this or wait for another long weekend to roll...

    GLEE Season Premiere: Auditions

Rachel, even when it's NOT the monsoon it's not sunny everyday here I hope this means more Mike Chang abs in future episodes! Seriously, though, looking forward to the Britney episode. On one hand, nice to see Quinn back to her queen bee beyotchness and Rachel being a diva again, but on the...

    Making meals of Monsters

Wow, I have to say I find this really weird- not because it's pig guts, but because where I live we eat dishes made out of intestines of various animals all the time (goat, pig, cow, chicken) and I've never encountered any of them smelling like that. Then again some of these dishes consist of...

I so... SO ... want to turn this into an adventure.

Hallelujah! Although I prefer my men to rain down without mounts. :p Also, Jeffrey Thomas's Portfolio: Twisted Princess looks like a wonderful place for adventure ideas. Tiana, Kidagakash, and Mulan look pretty badass and creepy as well.

I so... SO ... want to turn this into an adventure.

I never thought I'd find inspiration for a D&D adventure in the pages of Blueboy. But hey, it worked for Cyndi Lauper, it works for me.

    Drowning and "strenuous activity"

This. But if you really want to be specific about it, like have a hard and fast rule that you can refer to, "strenuous activity" is defined medically as activities that burn more than 350 kilocalories per hour (at least, in healthy individuals with no significant cardiovascular or pulmonary...

    RPG.NET down?

Up now, but wasn't able to access it at all yesterday. I find Down for everyone or just me? helpful for these situations.

What does your ENWorld name mean?

Hated it enough that someday, somebody made you wanna turn around and say goodbye? :p Sorry, just wanted to tease a bit because after reading your post, I couldn't stop hearing "Hold On" and flashbacking to elementary school :D

What does your ENWorld name mean?

All my usernames on other messageboards/forums/communities are fandom-based. I go through fandoms like candy. So I figured I would pick a username this time around that is something that I will always, always like no matter what. I really, really like milk tea. Especially Hong Kong style milk...

    Any good news?

Personal good news: my orthopaedic surgeon has let me graduate from using a walker/crutches to a cane (long distances)/no assistive devices! Also, I'm allowed to go swimming! (Now my blog name is close to becoming super obsolete, but I'm cool with that because it means being able to walk almost...

advice for a newbie DM running a "pick-up" game for slightly newbie players?

Heh, I should've clarified. They played twelve years ago (or was it thirteen?) meaning they had a few encounters, in which one of them had her character spend all her time hiding in trees then looting bodies. So they don't have any attachment to a particular edition. :D They just "want to play...

advice for a newbie DM running a "pick-up" game for slightly newbie players?

Here's the situation: two of my friends have expressed an interest in playing d&d, but due to scheduling conflicts and other constraints, the only time we've got to try it out together is tomorrow. (And they only told me about this today.) A similar opportunity will not arise again for many...

males playing females and the other way around, opinions?

I can't speak for other women, especially since I game with a group that's mostly female, but my creation of a male character stemmed from no other reasons than (1) let's try something different and (2) LOL I wanna see what Chuck Bass on Athas would be like. However, I've seen other women...

    Best character name?

My sister just decided to be upfront and named her character "Awesome." Which gets confusing when someone else's character does something spectacular and people are, "That's awesome." "No, that was Krista." In the same campaign, a bunch of us worship a deity called "Our Lady of GaGalupe."

males playing females and the other way around, opinions?

Works the other way around, too. Sure, it's great to see strong female characters kicking butt and taking names, but sometimes I just want to enjoy hot dudes running around being BAMFs. That's not why I play male characters in tabletop RPGs, though.
