D&D 5E Help me make a Master of Minor Magic

So, I like cantrips. While I'm not fond of a lot of the aspects of 5E (concentration, short durations, and the tiny number of spell slots), I love cantrips. To that end, I want to create a character who can get as many as possible. I'm joining a game in a couple of weeks. We start at 6th...

D&D 5E Warlocks and high level play

Does anyone have any experience playing warlocks at high levels (11+)? The class seems rather front loaded, getting many of the signature cool abilities at lower levels. Do they have any staying power in the higher levels?

D&D 5E Mage Armor: A (nearly) must have?

Yeah, I could never get behind the "if your mage is being attacked, you're doing it wrong mentality." In every game I've played in, smart enemies will target spellcasters if they cause trouble, especially if they are running around in robes. Yes, player tactics are important, but sometimes, the...

    D&D 5E Treantmonk's Guide to Wizards 5e

Nice!! I've personally sworn off wizards in 5e, but I was hoping you'd put out a guide.

D&D 5E How would you create an Alienist?

I'm a big fan of the old Alienist prestige class from 3.0; the 3.5 version wasn't as neat, but that's a different rant. :p As a thought exercise, how would you go about creating a character whose modus operandi is dealing with alien horrors from beyond? The most obvious answer is a GOO Warlock...

D&D 5E What would you play?

I think, after much consideration, I'll go with a monk. I already know that paladins and rogues are pretty amazing in 5e, so I think I'll give the monk a try and see how well it holds up compared to its 3.5/Pathfinder cousins. So now the question is: what type of monk should I play? And what...

D&D 5E What would you play?

I picked these three classes because they simultaneously fill a missing party role and are something I'm interested in playing. The problem is choosing which to play.

D&D 5E What would you play?

heh, I should have said no one can disarm traps. :p

D&D 5E What would you play?

Paladins are actually pretty good at maintaining concentration compared to wizards; they have better AC's, and they add their Charisma modifier on top of their constitution modifiers. Not that it really matters to me anyway; the purpose of a paladin is to smite. They don't lean heavily on their...

D&D 5E What would you play?

Oops, I should have mentioned this: the character will be starting at 6th level, not first. :D

D&D 5E What would you play?

I feel the concentration mechanic is too restrictive for my tastes. Combined with how few spell slots casters receive now, and the fact that 80% of the spells require concentration... It's just not my cup of tea. I don't mind having spell capabilities, but i will not be playing a spell...

D&D 5E What would you play?

I trying to decide on a new character for a 5e game. My previous character, a diviner wizard, is being retired because I dislike the magic system. The party consists of a Wood Elf druid, a Gnome archer ranger, a Human necromancer, and a Human light cleric, none of which are actually melee...

D&D 5E Is Concentration Bugging You?

I love how people automatically assume that not liking the way magic works equal "being upset you can't solo an encounter," or "being butthurt that you need your party." I don't seem to recall anyone saying anything like that. Frankly, your implication is disgusting and insulting. Disliking a...

D&D 5E Does anyone have any experience with Monks?

I'll be sure to pass that along. He's always looking for methods of creating more mayhem.

D&D 5E Is Concentration Bugging You?

Meh. Perhaps some people are fine with the new way magic functions, and that's great. I'm not one of them, however; I've had more spells disrupted due to concentration than I care to think about. Sometimes, there's no surefire method of avoiding getting hit. That and I don't like how extreme...

D&D 5E Is Concentration Bugging You?

I agree 100%. This has been my experience as a wizard, and it ended with me retiring the character because it just wasn't fun to play.

D&D 5E Does anyone have any experience with Monks?

I would be interested in hearing how they are beating out the barbarian and paladin. Is it lucky rolls?

Yeah, he's doing his best to be the scourge of civilization. :p

D&D 5E Does anyone have any experience with Monks?

Slightly off topic: how would you compare monks and rogues as far as striker/skirmisher role goes? And is there any benefit for one to multiclass into the other at any point?

D&D 5E Does anyone have any experience with Monks?

Ah, that does make sense. Which subrace would be the best? I'd think Stouts for the con boost, but then once monks reach 10th level, the poison resistance would be redundant. Meanwhile, Lightfoots (lightfeet?) get better hiding ability.
