    Keep on the Shadowfell Pregens?

Recently a gaming shop opened in my small midwestern town. I talked with the owner and he expressed a lack of potential players for 4e, saying heroclix was the popular seller for him. I have not run a 4e lite campaign and don't want to (I hate not having all the rules and having to house rule...

D&D 4E Open Design / Wolfgang Baur to do a 4E Open Design Adventure

So if I don't want to go to the gencon table but I want the print copy can't I just donate #30, then buy the print edition when it's published for the price tag (which I'm sure will be less than $70) and save the difference? Also, before I buy into something like this I would like to see some...

    Non-trap skill challenge compendium!

    1. warfare: PC's need to sabatoge/repair a seige weapon while fending of a few minor fows or while not being seen 2. Long-distance travel? I dont understand how a skill challenge could be built around that.

James Wyatt hints at 5 new races in PHB2

For those saying the D wont be for Drow because they are FR and not core... I have the two preview books right here and drow are mentioned extensivley in both. We used to have 11 different kinds of elves, now we have 3, why wouldn't the third belong in the PHB II? Maybe in 3.5 Drow were FR...

    Solo Adventures?

I've ran solo adventures many times and I have to say, I believe you're over thinking this. Making all those changes to a new rule system no one is familier with isn't a good idea. If you don't want to reduce the numbers of enemys drastically (and I don't blame you for that) I would say to...

    D&D 4E d20 Modern 4E - I want it!

Personally I liked the modern ability score based classes. I don't think rigid rules fit for a modern system, unless you give it a rigid setting (old west, world war II, etc) I would like to see a free form system for the new modern in the core book, something that allows players to build...

    Non-trap skill challenge compendium!

I ran an encounter a year or so ago that went very well and was basically a skill challenge before I had a name for one. It could easily be adapted to 4e rules and made official. Situation: PC's have rescued a family that were running from a band of orcs. Everyone holes up in an abandoned...

    campaign starter idea

I did a campaign that was very much like Lost; it took place on an island, had many different things (most of which were unexplainable) going on and didn't have many answers. I haven't tried flashbacks before (excellent idea by the way) but I have done things with the PC's losing thier...

    campaign starter idea

I've tried things similar to this before and my advice is this: 1. tell the PC's ahead of time your trying something new and they should go along with it and give it a try. 2. Make it last only one session 3. Afterwards get thier feedback and base further experiments off of that My...

D&D 4E Standing Guard in 4e...no rest for you?

EDITED FOR INSULTING LANGUAGE (and I'm sure no one will like me stating something most of you need to hear so I'll see you all at the end of my aformentioned three day ban, adios!) Enjoy your five-day ban for deliberately ignoring a moderator's warning.

D&D 4E Standing Guard in 4e...no rest for you?

I understand the need for rule, but discussions of this ilk make it seem like you people want rules for everything... I won't go into my opinions on that but I will state one thing... games with rules for everything exist, they're called video game rpg's. If that's what you want go play one...

D&D 4E Standing Guard in 4e...no rest for you?

HOLY FREAKING GOD! What is wrong with you people? Are you allergic to just having fun? Can't anything at all about this made up fantasy game be simple for you? LET ME ASURE YOU, THIS GAME IS FUN... IF YOU WILL LET IT BE.

    What to call adventurers?

I'm looking for a term that universally describes all individuals with class levels Heroes only describe good guys or people that do good/brave things hoodlums, brigands, etc only describes bad guys. adventurers describes all character types, I need a cool sounding word that does the same

    What to call adventurers?

If the PC's walk into a town that was just harrased/robbed by a few NPC's with class levels, a villager might say "We was just looted by a few ________" Heroes wouldn't work, adventurers wouldn't really either.

    What to call adventurers?

I should have stated that I also dislike heroes. It works fine for out of character stuff, but if anyone who walks into a village with a sword or spell book qualifies as a "hero" in the world then... well that sucks. I was thinking more along the lines of lingo, like in Sigil in 2e anyone one...

    What to call adventurers?

I have always had a problem with the term "adventurers". Anyone who calls themselves an adventurer seems like they belong in a peter pan story. My campaigns are not bleak wastelands, but they are gritty enough that no person who hires out their martial skill would be caught dead being called...

A Cool Incident From Our Playtest

That's awesome! It made me think of one of my favorite wierd occurances. I was playing in the 2e "dragon mountain" adventure years ago, where there are like 18 NPC cohorts by the end of the adventrue (which you need because it's hard and many PC's will die). One of our first NPC's was a...

    D&D 4E [4E Report] The Second Son (3 players)

Thanks a lot Xorn, my 4e group is only going to consist of 3 players at max and, while all the demo reports have been helpful, I have been worried about how my players will fair and what my tactic as DM should be: scale down the fights or tell the players to be ready a hard trip with more full...

To all the other "simulationists" out there...

I know this won't help now but I ran into this same problem. My rule was that if a target is either COMPLETELY helpless (asleep) or TOTALLY unaware of the PC it was an automatic coup-de-grace. This would almost always kill the target but there was always a small chance he wouldl live, like in...
