Does the elf's weapon proficiencies serve a purpose?

Confessions of a D&D racist I used to steotype dwarve clerics, maybe in a few years it'll change to elven clerics. I never liked em, elves in general I mean. They live forever (which I think would change everything), they can automatically use the cool weapons (which meant they were an...

OD&D Mixing OD&D with 4E: Witness the Folly!

The things I would keep: 1) Points of Light: which is funny because it's entirely imagination and therefore isn't even a mechanic. A general feel to settings with general backstory elements that both employ a feel of fantasy and exploration = cool. I just like that by stating in the DMG that...

    Community Points of Light

I gotta say I love this idea. If anyone ever starts such a site I would definately like to know. For my first 4e campaign I was going to design an area of 30 square miles or so and say that there were mountains in one direction and a sea in another and that was it. I'd try to keep the PC's...

Ranged Strikers - more "aggro" mechanics?

Also, keep in mind that feats (especially the class training feats) could easily allow you to pick up the outside-the-archtype features you want. I'm afraid that too many people are deciding whats wrong with 4e even though only 10% of the rules are out... and even those have already been changed!

Ranged Strikers - more "aggro" mechanics?

I've never really played D&D before but I heard there was a an element chance involved, like maybe some rounds you hit and some you don't.

Ranged Strikers - more "aggro" mechanics?

THANK YOU! This statement should have ended the whole discussion!

    Question about enc./daily powers

I first encountered encounter powers in the Dungeonscape book, a la my friend playing a factotum. It totally screwed the session because no one could find a rule that described how to handle per encounter powers when your not in an encounter... are they unlimited then? I'm hoping with 4e...

    Anti-martial effects?

The ability to damage more than one person is a huge ability to lose. Most of the playtests I have read where the party didn't have a wizard said they thought they did poorly because of the lack of area-damaging spells. I mean 4e encounters are generally based on multiple monsters, "often...

    D&D 4E D&D 4E Allez Cuisine!

I have to say I originally found the "total heal at the end of the day" dish an unappetizing recipe for my simulationsit cookbook. However, once I realized that this (and the other new healing rules) allowed me to serve a good meal with the cleric sauce optional (instead of mandatory as it was)...

    Anti-martial effects?

True, but from everything I have read there is no area-of-effect martial powers. Taking away one guys power to hurt one dude per round -owie- taking away one (or more) guys power to hurt/heal multiple guys per round -now your screwed.

    Forcing enemies to shift

I thinkg if you are creative enough (as all those OD&D types saw we aren't any more) you should be able to imagine a way for all of these rules to work. If you're standing next to a half elf and speaking the half elf just pops in once in while with a comment that steers you in a more diplomatic...

    Forcing enemies to shift

I read about a wizard utility that was 15th level (?) that did radius thunder damage pushing all opponents back 4 squares. To me this kind of power sounds like it would knock characters back, like a blast or explosion would, leaving them prone. However, I haven't seen any mention of prone. I...

    Pile up your Dead

Paul "The Wall" Cicero In one 3.5 campaign our DM had is involved in a war against hobgoblins. My character, Paul Cicero (a knight) would regularly kill so many that our DM had to make a house rule like this. I had always wanted a character with a cool nickname or title but I never had one...
