Need help with casters' Familiar rules

Back to that question, which caught my interest as well. Is a familiar generaly hard-coded to 1/2 its master's Hitpoints? The Polymorph spell does by its description not alter the HP of its subject, but does so with the CON stat, i.e. a normal character would potentially receive bonus Hitpoints...

    Goliaths balanced at LA +1?

I think the Half-Giant is well-balanced at +1 LA, and he has similar racial traits. On direct comparison however, the Goliath is a good deal better than the Half Giant because of the additonal +2 Strength. I think they should have added a -2 Charisma to the Goliath's racial traits, given they...

    Glitterdust

Well, the duration of Blindness may be permanent, but usually you don't blind an enemy and let him get away with it. ;) The duration of glitterdust is just long enough to kill the now grossly weakened foe(s). And the negate invisibility effect is not in all inferior to see invisibility. For one...

    Glitterdust

Is it only my impression that Glitterdust is a little bit too powerful? An AoE Spell, that blinds everyone in the target area, bypasses Spell Resistance and has a very valuable utility effect (negate invisibility) all in one measly 2nd level spell? Wouldn't it be more balanced and fitting to...

    Half Spear?

Thanks, I found it. It's almost the same, but has a x3 crit. modifier.

    Half Spear?

Can anyone tell me the stats and description of a half-spear, or tell me where it is listed? I wasn't able to find it anywhere. Thanks!

    Spellcraft ?

The way I understood it, Druids worship nature as a supernatural being the same way as a cleric worships his patron deity. In return "nature" grants them some powers. There are even some nature deitys like Silvanus which are occasionaly worshiped by Druids. I don't think this is really a...

    Spellcraft ?

Sounds reasonable to me, although I don't see why you seperated druidic from the divine spells.

    Spellcasting in the Suprise round.

Because it is my opinion that you have to act quickly to catch your opponent by surprise. If you don't use the opportunity, you have forfeit the element of surprise. Besides taking an action beyond a round has to many potential glitches and too few benefits.

    Subrace Paragons

Are there any established rules for Paragons of certain subraces? For example the Elf paragon obviously does not apply to a Wild Elf, wich has reduced Intelligence and favored class sorcerer. Can one assume that obvious adaptions apply, like bonus Sorcerer levels, Wild Elf favored weapon focus...

    Practiced Spellcaster

Which is no logical error by itself. A character may have a natural talent for a spellcasting class or skill, but does never find out because of lack of opportunity or interest. The term "practiced spellcaster" however does clearly indicate that a character has aquired the feat by training...

    Spellcasting in the Suprise round.

To avoid such troubles, I would disallow taking a full-round action on a surprise round at all. If you catch your enemies by surprise, you have to act quickly, otherwise the surprise is forfeit...

    Feint and Trip?

In my opinion it's quite clearly a). The fact that you get a bonus attack if you succeed in the tripping attempt does not mean that you still get any previously used up bonuses. Same would go for a true strike used for tripping.

    Paragon class from UA......

I think it heavily depends on what classes you plan to take for the given character. An elven wizard can surely put that +2 Int to good use, slightly improved combat abilities don't hurt either and he doesn't lose too much by taking the paragon class. Still, I think it's pretty balanced.

    Practiced Spellcaster

But a Hexblade can, which is why I asked the question in the first place.

    5-foot-step

Oh well, I know that combat is just an abstraction. You don't stare at the enemy immobilized, while he is charging across half the battlemap. What I was complaining about is that there seems to be a serious flaw in the abstraction. Imagine the following: The fighter closes by, pointing his...

    5-foot-step

That's right, but it seems quite ridiculous that a fighter, who is threatening a wizard, just scratches his head helplessly, while the spellslinger takes a step back and begins mumbling and gesticulating undisturbed. As I understood this does only apply to natural reach, but not reach weapons...

    5-foot-step

Am I right in the assumption that, provided there is enough space, a character can always use a 5-foot-step to retreat to a safe location and then use a ranged weapon or cast a spell safely vs melee opponents? If so the 'shoot while threatened' feature of the Order of the Bow Initiate or the...

    Practiced Spellcaster

Ok thanks. I suppose the requirement "caster level 1" was simply forgotten, since it doesn't make sense to be a practiced spellcaster if you can't cast spells at all.

    Practiced Spellcaster

Can secondary spellcasters like Paladin, Ranger and Hexblade take the Practiced Spellcaster feat before they attain level 4? The feat description lists spellcraft 4 ranks as the only prerequisite, but technically a character at that level wouldn't have a caster level to improve yet.
