Do you have a web link for Children of the Ancients. I can't seem to find it online

    Space Opera

Lately my group and I have been playing a lot of fantasy games. This is not a bad thing but i am looking for something different to GM. I am looking for a more light hearted space adventure game similar in tone to star wars but not being star wars if you get my meaning. A more buck rogers...

    Roles in Roleplaying Games

I have just read all the posts for this thread and i have come a conclusion. I think its time for D&D to enter the world of point buy. Combat roles and Archetypes can be kept. Then stats, powers, feats and skills can be point bought. This keeps the defined combat roles and allows players to...

Should charismatic players have an advantage?

I would not give the charismatic player any in game bonuses but i would be giving the player more role-playing xp points. The same as i would give any player for role-playing their character well. I guess with the charismatic black hole player i would ask them to bring chips and dip so at...

DMs: What are your character pet peeves?

I GM alot of point based systems and my biggest pet peeve is the one trick pony character. The player who min and maxes everything to have that one skill at awe inspiring level.

    Roles in Roleplaying Games

I was trying to show how absurd it would be if someone used the defined combat roles in rpg's in a book setting. It was not a represent of how i or anyone else plays an rpg. My point is that you can not use the defined roles for characters in novels as they are more than just tanks or strikers.

    Roles in Roleplaying Games

Aragorn uses a 2handed sword so not a defender he would be classes as a striker. Gimli uses a 2handed axe so again another striker. I was trying to show that you cant pigeon hole characters in novels to the base defender, striker, warlord roles. The scope of the characters are more than that.

    Roles in Roleplaying Games

About the closest we have ever got to roles in any game is when we chose party formation. Who is going first, second ect. Other than that i find the whole idea of designating characters as tanks, healer, and such completely absurd. I have run games were a mage has been on point the whole...

    Mind-Blowing Player Choices

Many years ago i ran a 2nd edition Ad&d campaign with 2 very devilish players. During the course of the campaign the group got ripped off from a wealthy merchant. The merchant lived only a boat harbored at the docks and surrounded himself with guards. I made it very clear there was no way of...

Litterboxes: Tell us about your crappy Sandbox experiences

My worst sandbox experiences was way back in the mid 80's with Space Master. If no one has played Space Master before it takes about 2 hours to generate your character. Longer if you only have 1 players book between a few people. Anyway to get back on topic we all spend time creating...

Magic Items, worst, silliest, most power gamey you have seen.

Back in 1st edition we had a Cube of Force that we convinced the DM was a 10x10 in-penetrable cube which we used to squish all the monsters in the dungeon. A ring of telekinesis which again using dodgy logic we convinced the DM we could hyper accelerate a crossbow bolt or anything similar to...

    Brinkmanship

I had a player in a d6 star wars game i was running create a character that i was not happy with. I was starting a new campaign based around a group of smugglers, working for the alliance on a heavily controlled imperial world. All the players needed to be incognito so to not draw attention...

What are the practical limits of d20+mod vs DC?

I simple solution is to make a natural d20 roll a success no matter what the DC is or make the d20 open ended. If you roll a natural 20 then roll again and add so its possible for a 1st level character with some luck to get succeed on a DC of 40.

Evil Campaigns: How do you feel about them?

I ran an evil game a few years back. All of us were really into dungeonkeeper so devised a game around the players being little demons and they had a small village to torment. They started off turning the milk bad, letting the chickens out and basic little things to annoy the people to build...

Things you left out, but wish you didn't

I have a problem naming my characters so alot of the time i leave it blank. I then work out a name as the game progresses but sometimes i have been put on the spot. This has led to some utterly unheroic and stupid names for characters. My heroic star wars smuggler ended up being called...

What is fun about illusions? Fooling the players or the PCs?

I am not up with how illusions are delt with in 3.5 or 4E but back in the day the players had to verbally say they are disbelieving what they are seeing then make a saving throw. This made illusions quite powerful, because without some reason for the players to believe otherwise the illusion...

    The best adventure...

I want enjoyment out of a game. It doesnt matter what quantities of combat or puzzle solving is in the adventure as long as it is engaging and keeps me entertained. I dont think there is any magic formula but if everyone gets some enjoyment out of the game i would call it a success.

    Things I Miss....

I have always found that rolled stats are completely fair. Everyone has the same chance to get good or bad stats. In a point buy system if you dont know the ins or outs of the system and make a bad choice at character creation your screwed. I find that to be unfair.
