    Marking

If the mark is not part of the Aegis, then it simply applies the standard mark effect: a -2 penalty to attack rolls on attacks that do not include you as a target. A generic mark does not allow you to use your Aegis against the marked target. As you noted, there are powers which specifically...

    Ranger vs Hunter ?

Don't scouts use Dexterity to make melee basic attacks?

MV: Threats to the Nentir Vale in my hands

In a sense, this new Monster Vault is part Monster Manual, part sandbox. You have the Nentir Vale broken up into regions, and in each of those regions you may have an important settlement, a particular section of wilderness, or a dungeon. Each of those places has specific monsters of specific...

MV: Threats to the Nentir Vale in my hands

The only table is the standard Monster by Level one at the back of the book. There is a section towards the beginning that has a map of Nentir Vale and then short descriptions of each region. Each of those descriptions mentions some of the creatures and groups in those regions.

Lvl 7 White Dragon, Am I doing it right?

The only thing that jumped out is that the expected AC for a level 7 brute would be 19, not 21, but AC 21 would be typical for most level 7 monsters (just not a brute). Hit points are in the correct range and the damage seems appropriate. Also, the ability score modifiers should reflect the...

    Monster Makeover: The Demilich

I didn't see a thread about this, so I thought I would post a link to the new Monster Makeover article (it's free): Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game Official Home Page - Article (Monster Makeover) It acts on two initiative counts, can treat stun and dominate as daze instead so it has a way...

    Monster Vault Token Storage

I use small Ziploc bags, sorted by PCs, medium monsters, and large monsters right now. If I start accumulating more tokens (like from the Nentir Vale set), I might start sorting them.

    D&D 4E Do you mix'n'match Essentials with standard 4e?

I currently play a level 16 slayer in our Eberron game, and I am the only one playing an Essentials class. I am not sure if anyone else uses feats from Essentials, as really only myself and one other player are particularly keen about optimizing and tweaking our characters. So far, the slayer...

Dear bloody god: Calystrx (Threats to Nentir Vale Preview)

Or maybe Talaeden saw something that did not seem to compute and we concurred. I don't think the hit points are that big of a deal, but it is still 120 HP more than what we'd expect for a level 14 solo. That is almost a full level 14 monster's worth of extra hit points.

Dear bloody god: Calystrx (Threats to Nentir Vale Preview)

Hmm, Calastryx's HP seemed to have been calculated thus: (15*10 + 21)*4 = 684. Correct me if I am misremembering, but solos usually use base 8 HP per level, instead of the role-dependent HP (brutes 10, lurkers/artillery 6, everyone else 8). This strikes me as potentially an error.

    So, What's the Controller's 'Thing'?

Yeah, very few controllers have class features that enforce their role -- mostly the controller role is expressed through the class powers.

    Playtest: Warlock Updates

Yeah, I didn't see any new Miss entries on the encounter powers.

Essentials classes - eaiser to play... at reduced tactical complexity?

After playing a wizard for many sessions in our current game, from levels 12 to 16, the last two sessions I've played a slayer. I chose to take the Martial Cross-Training feat to get one fighter encounter power, and I also took the Kensei PP and Reserve Maneuver to get another one, so I have 2...

    Help wit a warlord....

A high Int warlord can get away with wearing light armor. The flavor you describe, however, could also be captured with a melee bard, if you play down the arcane side of things and play up the rapier-sharp wit. If you play a warlord that grants a lot of other party members basic attacks, make...

    Playtest: Warlock Updates

Making dire radiance Con or Cha makes a lot of sense. Another possible change would be to give star pact warlocks a feature that lets them use either Con or Cha instead of Dex/Int for AC.

What are your Favourite Parts of CharGen? Least Favourite?

I pretty much enjoy all aspects of character generation, save one: buying starting equipment and (if followed) calculating encumbrance. Ugh, that part just feels like homework.

Need Help In Creating A God

I think the person you are referring to is Mesh Hong. You might check out this older thread where he and others posted and discussed stats for Tharizdun: http://www.enworld.org/forum/4e-fan-creations-house-rules/272495-help-me-stat-out-tharizdun.html

    Dragon #400

I called it! http://www.enworld.org/forum/4e-discussion/305499-something-special-issue-400-a.html I agree, all the abominations could use a serious boost. The astral stalker, atropal, phane, and tarrasque are flavor-wise pretty awesome, but the early MM1 design really kills them. The blood...

    spinnin deflection with a greatspear?

Spinning Deflection requires a staff, so the greatspear does not qualify. However, a greatspear is a polearm, so you could take the feat Hafted Defense -- that gives you a boost equal to a light shield.

Characters that can only hit one defense

Martial Cross-Training would allow you to swap out one use of power strike for a fighter encounter power, some of which target Fortitude or Reflex, and at least one (come and get it) that targets Will. If you take a paragon path other than Mythic Slayer, you get another encounter attack power...
