    Time to update your resumes!

Looking at Hasbro's earnings call transcript and the 10-Q they filed with the SEC today, it's clear that anyone working on WotC's "digital initiatives" should have their resume in order. Here's a choice quote from the 10-Q: “ The increases in gross profit were partially offset in the quarter...

    Wizard Confusion

FFS. You are totally conflicting. When is the next errata update?

    Wizard Confusion

Where is this in the PHB? I know I'm going to have problems with players being as confused as me when I'm DM.

    Wizard Confusion

On p.158 of the PHB it says, under Spellbook-Daily and Utility Spells: "After an extended rest, you can prepare a number of daily and utility spells according to what you can cast per day for your level." What is that supposed to mean? Say I have a 5th-level Wizard. She'll have two Level 1...

    Retraining Powers

Is it just me or is the text on retraining and replacing powers from the PHB confusing? "Power: You can replace a power with another power of the same type (at-will attack power, encounter attack power, daily attack power, or utility power), of the same level or lower, and from the same class—a...

How Much Treasure to Pre-Gens of >1st Level?

Ah, thanks. I expected this to be in the PHB and assumed it was just missing when I didn't see it there.

How Much Treasure to Pre-Gens of >1st Level?

I'm building a group of 4 pre-gens of 5th level to run my group through "Heathen". I think I've leveled them up appropriately as far as all the characteristics go. All except for equipment, treasure, and magic items. How is every one else dealing with this? From the DMG p. 125: "Make sure...

Trap-disabler Wanted: Optimized halflings need only apply?

A 4th-level fighter that dabbles in disabling traps has a “only” 25% chance of succeeding. Interesting. You have obviously never played Original D&D. I don’t have the original rules at hand, but I do have Labyrinth Lord, which is close enough. Turning to page 13 and the “Thief Skills Table”...

    Heathen

Yeah, we're all experienced (*cough*old*cough*) gamers. I've created 5 5th level characters for them to use. It is still D&D, so in the worst case scenario I'll make someone roll a d20 and make up a DC and modifiers. There's nothing like diving into the deep end for learning how to swim!

    Heathen

I'm getting ready to run Heathen next weekend. It's the first time for me to DM in quite a while and it's the first chance the players will have had to play the 4th edition rules. Probable Spoiler Warning! Has anyone run this adventure through yet? What where your experiences? What figs did...

    Channel Divinity

Do clerics get CD: Divine Fortune and CD: Turn Undead in addition to their 2/1/1/0 powers at level one, or do they only get one as a replacement for a Level 1 Encounter power? Are there any other CD powers besides those granted by the God Feats? Thanks.

    Healer's Lore

Just so I understand: I should read all cleric powers that have the "Healing" keyword as if they said "+ Wis Abil Mod hit points" (that'd be + 4 with 18-19 Wis) in addition to their regular text. Healing Strike then says "...can spend a healing surge + 4 hit points." Beacon of Hope...

    Taking 20 Gone?

Page 179 of the PHB mentions taking 10 on skill checks, but there's no mention of taking 20. Is it gone from 4th, or is there something similar that I haven't found or understood yet?

Really, No PC Gnomes! Stop Asking!

No. I'm saying you apparently don't have the imagination to do anything else than kill yourself since what you rolled is "unplayable".

Really, No PC Gnomes! Stop Asking!

According the DM that was the Prime Requisite, but the PR only gave bonuses for meeting it (+20% to XP?) but didn't set minimums for play. I only have a copy of Labyrinth Lord so I don't know what the actual OD&D rules say.

Really, No PC Gnomes! Stop Asking!

Ah yes, the "I have an unreasonable emotional attachment to mediocre characters and can't get myself killed so I can reroll" defense. Go cry in your beer someplace else.

Really, No PC Gnomes! Stop Asking!

My point is, we don't roll for ability scores anymore. Yeah, it's still listed in the PHB. But we use the rules and WotC's rulings to best effect here, yeah? And the best effect comes from not rolling for scores, but instead using the standard array. So, we don't roll for ability scores...

Really, No PC Gnomes! Stop Asking!

Yeah, but it's very, very strongly discouraged. **Note to mods: I'm copying this short section of the PHB for the purpose of comment and criticism which clearly falls under my Fair Use rights in the US. See http://fairuse.stanford.edu/Copyright_and_Fair_Use_Overview/chapter9/9-a.html** "Some...
