Will your campaigns go Paragon? Epic?

Epic Destiny or bust, as it were. My group will be running 1-30 at least twice, just to see how it goes and to put the new system completely through its paces. It'll be interesting to see where it goes from there. We've made it through the first 6 levels so far, and we're having a blast...

What not yet published concept are you hoping for?

Psionics. Hopefully this edition provides the framework necessary to create Psionic classes that feel unique, but that don't rely on all sorts of troublesome little subsystems that don't play well with all the other classes. Psionic casters in 3.x felt too much like "Take Wizard/Sorc spell...

    Mild Speculation

I really like Primal Rites. Primal is the only power source my group couldn't think of anything good for, but Rites nailed it IMO. Many of the suggestions in this thread are great. I really hope Wizards doesn't end up picking something ridiculous instead.

    Rules for creating Minions

I've been looking into it, and here's what I've come up with: ----------------------- Steps required to make a Minion out of a particular monster: -Reduce monster's HP to 1. -Set damage for attack equal to the minimum damage it can possibly deal. (i.e., as if all damage rolls were 1's.). So...

Do Monsters know about a Fighter's Combat Challenge?

My group has had the same problem. For the most part, I've just been winging it as DM. If it seems logical that the creature in question would be familiar with fighting human/dwarf/eladrin/whatever fighters, they do what they can do to avoid taking that first hit. (i.e., hobgoblins, veteran...

D&D 4E Has anyone seen/heard anything concerning Gestalt characters in 4E?

Briefly put: Has anyone heard/seen anything about any sort of power-boosting variant (like Gestalt characters) to help compensate for having only 2 heroes in a party in 4E? My group only has 2 PCs, a problem that was slightly alleviated in 3.5 by our use of the Gestalt variant from Unearthed...

Will I regret not pre-ordering? (Concerning overall cost of the books)

Edit- Ugh. Apologies for posting this in the wrong section. As the title indicates, I'm concerned about the repercussions of not pre-ordering. Since my town lacks a FLGS, I'm going to order the Core Rulebooks via the Internet (probably from Amazon.com or somesuch.) However, I currently lack the...

You Never Pit 9th Lvl Minions Against 1st Lvl PCs.

IIRC, the previewed Orc "Minion" was 9th level, so I'll use that as a baseline for my examples below. (1.) Scenario where Orc Warriors are not "Minions", and should be given appropriate HP values by the DM. A small trio of frightened villagers huddle together on the old, crumbled remains of...

You Never Pit 9th Lvl Minions Against 1st Lvl PCs.

Agreed. People are generating a problem here that doesn't exist. The Orc Minion is given 1 HP purely for narrative and bookkeeping reasons; the Orc does not actually have 1 HP total. The DM rules that -in the context of the upcoming fight- that particular Orc is greatly outclassed by his foes...

How will the designers (or the players) deal with magic item influx due to PC death?

It can be difficult to pull off in certain adventures without your players noticing, but I always just lower the amount of treasure they receive from future encounters until I have "cheated" them out of an amount of gold equal to the amount they looted from Dead Fred. If I am irked at them for...

HUGE SCOOP! Chris Perkins confirms my suspicions on unlimited Rituals

Personally, I'm glad I can have a Wizard who uses quirky spells to define his personality (eg, always keeping himself impeccably groomed via prestigiditation, or always using mage hand to do menial tasks that are "unbefitting a person of his talent") without having to sacrifice any of my combat...

    D&D 4E 4e Healing as Plot Device

Are we entirely sure that there isn't a subsystem apart from HP that deals with the degenerative effects of actual physical wounds? Perhaps that scar across your face you got when you were bloodied and that gaping wound in your stomach you got when that Hobgoblin put you to -3 HP (which you only...

Saving throws are a coin toss?

In this instance, it doesn't matter what the mechanical reasoning is. I don't care if it's for "making the math work", game balance, class balance, gameflow, speeding up combat, or any other imaginable reason. There is no possible mechanical explanation that compensates for the rediculously...

Saving throws are a coin toss?

Agreed. I'm assuming there will be special powers/feats/etc that make it more difficult to succeed on a "4E Saving Throw", just as it seems that there are powers that make it easier to succeed on such a Saving Throw. So a 20th level ArchMage probably has special powers that would alter that...

Did D&DExp provide any clues about the "Dragon Ritual" issue?

Scanning through all of the excellent reports about D&DExp that are being posted, I get the impression that most of the preview material was decidedly combat-only. However, amongst all of the discussion and interviews, did anyone happen to catch any hints about Rituals and how they're going to...

    D&D 4E 4E NPC's not walking treasure troves?

With the simplification of items in 4E, is it realistic for me (based on what we know) to now expect that I can make an NPC capable of challenging my characters (without having to resort to non-item-based arbitrary bonuses) whose death will not result in the PCs gaining so much wealth that it...

If the devils are how monsters will be....I am so happy

As mentioned earlier, any encounter against a Pit Fiend could theoretically feature swarms of extremely low level Devils that are too weak to ever injure the PCs in direct combat, but, in the presence of their Master, become a very serious threat. I think it's a great way to include low level...
