All good things come to an end...

IMO, too powerful if you have it, and too devastating if you should lose it. Both options are bad. Reduce the numbers and it is fine, probably.

Ironically, the viking helmets never had horns. They look cool though :)

    Building a Norse Type Priest...

AFAIK, they had limited or no magic abilities. I would rather make a fighter/barbarian type with a strong religious belief. Maybe if you talk with your dm you can create some minor magic by sacred rituals and sacrifices. [Like, if you know you are going to a battle you can perform a...

    Limiting Magic

Imo, this would be an interesting situation where the PCs should have a fair chance to survive by fleeing (or regrouping themselves), rather than the teleport-home solution. The phantom steed doesn't take you right next to the BBEGs bed where he is sleeping, though.

Arkhandus, you bring up valid points, and I will adress them. I know. Fine, this is what the DMG says. Summary: Metropolis: ~8 arcane casters capable of Teleporting Large city: ~6 arcane casters capable of Teleporting Small city: ~2 arcane casters capable of Teleporting This is where I think...

    Limiting Magic

Yes, the game has survived, but it has largely ignored the consequences of teleportation spells, imo. By ignored I mean, no one uses Teleport but the players. But... ... satellites has changed how intelligence is gathered. ... genetically modified food has had an impact on the food industry...

    Limiting Magic

I am a big fan of banning Teleport and its likes, and I feel your counterarguments are quite moot: -prevent TPK: So can several other spells (Wall of Force comes to mind), without introducing the highly anti-climatic Teleport (one moment deep inside a dungeon next to a huge a axe-wielding...

Then don't use those monsters. Simple as that! :D

If we all rolled the normal way for stats, how come he has three 18's?

Rolling 4d6 drop lowest leaves you with 1.62% chance for 18. Rolling three 18s in a row has a probability of 0.0000042525, or a 1 in 235 155 chance. So while not impossible, it is certainly very unlikely.

Has D&D changed Dramatically over the Years?

So now you are listening to 80ies music and have big hair again? :D

    Overuse of monsters and magic.

VirgilCaine, I beg to differ :) This is D&D. D&D is not the real world, it is a mysterious world of magic and monsters. In D&D I want straightforward, game-enabling magic (for the PCs). I want magic to be rare and mystic to the average farmer. I want game balance. I want cool, amazing magic...

    Overuse of monsters and magic.

What are those magic toys you are referring to? My impression is - like Valiant's - that the magic has become more abundant over the years. Whether this is supported by the rules or not, I don't know, but I believe that printing new books results in a power creep.

    Overuse of monsters and magic.

Oh, I definitely agree. Though I like the LotR setting better, where God-like beings don't roam and pillage the world.

    Overuse of monsters and magic.

Well, I still think Tolkien is low magic, but I guess it's a matter of definition. By low magic I mean that magic items and powerful spellcasters are rare. And I am not talking about the Fellowship party, but in the world as a whole which imho defines the setting. The age of the Silmarils is...

    Overuse of monsters and magic.

I don't know if I would agree that Tolkien is high magic; except for a precious few persons (Gandalf, Saruman, Elrond...) the magic is all low level (mostly 0th or 1st level spell D&D equivalent) and for the average people virtually non-existent. Gandalf is IMO the D&D equivalent of a 6-7 level...

E6: The Game Inside D&D (with PDFs!)

The only complaint related to this (that I could find) is that "the Ftr4/Brb2 is better at fighting than a Ftr6". The argument goes that the extra feat the Ftr6 gets is worth "nothing" in the E6 system, since feats are so abundant. While true in the long run (far into epic E6), clearly the feat...

E6: The Game Inside D&D (with PDFs!)

I agree with all of the above, but I don't see how it adresses the introduction of "capstone" feats. This is what rycanada stated was the reason for "capstone" feats: Why is this bad? Do single class characters have to be better than multiclass characters? I guess it's a matter of personal...

E6: The Game Inside D&D (with PDFs!)

I see what you mean, but even in normal D&D single-classing seldom is the "optimal" progression. I just think that the beauty of the E6 system lies in its simplicity. Adding customized feats (that IMO are not needed) weakens this aspect. :\

E6: The Game Inside D&D (with PDFs!)

Why is it that you want to encourage single classing? The 3.X system was pretty much designed to multi class.

Response to Psionics Nerf (Move from inappropriate placement in House Rules thread)

Correct me if I'm wrong (I don't know much about psionics), but if I'm understanding this isn't the psion similar to a wizard, only that the psion has the possibility to push the "I WIN" button in the first encounter every day? Or similarly, suppose that a wizard has the ability called "Nova"...
