E6: The Game Inside D&D (with PDFs!)

How powerful/weak the fighter is depends how far into "epic" you play. Fighter is generally thought to be quite powerful at low levels. Clearly, as the PCs get more feats, the additional 4 feats the fighter gets is eventually marginalized.

    20th level commoner?!

Qualifying for a prestige class usually requires some combination of the following: -feats -skill points -Base attack bonus -able to cast level X spells This means that for 'fighter'-like characters the NPC levels don't delay them in getting into the PrC, whereas for spellcasters the NPC levels...

    20th level commoner?!

Note that if you "give" them 3 NPC classes it will be possible to qualify for some prestige classes with only a couple of heroic classes. Non-spellcasters gain the most, I believe.

    20th level commoner?!

They will be very weak for their level. That is if you don't give them the 3 NPC classes for "free" (don't count against Effective Character Level)?

    FR Intro Campaign Advice

This sums up just about everything I dislike about FR: Uberpowerful NPCs everywhere you turn, strange illogical and impossible* magic, too much dying and resurrection. *much of the magic is not explained, thus unaccessible to the PCs

E6: The Game Inside D&D (with PDFs!)

What kind of magic items do you suggest to allow? Everything from the books with a caster level of 6 and lower? If so, aren't they relatively few and un-powerful for 6th+ level characters?

My house rules document, looking for input

I skimmed through your pdf: The only campaign defining changes are the death/dying, resurrection magic and reserve points. I like these changes. For the rest I am tempted to say: "don't fix it if it ain't broken"...

    My E6 Campaign

I have one question: Why all these house rules? What is it that you're trying to accomplish? EDIT: That was two questions... :p

    New feats (considered for E6)

My comments, for what they are worth: I think this is a bad idea for a feat. Taking it or not is essentially metagaming. Or rather, the DM decides whether it is needed or not. What if the player does not want to take this feat? Will the DM not use level-draining monsters? Same arguments as...

    New feats (considered for E6)

My point exactly. So nobody will play a fighter in E6, much the same as nobody plays suboptimal classes in standard D&D (Monk comes to my mind).

    New feats (considered for E6)

I agree with this. In fact, I see little use of creating any new feats at all. It seems that most feats suggested here only try to mimic higher-level abilities, and that is what E6 tries to prevent after all. In that case, you have the fighter problem; eventually, other meelee classes will...

E6: The Game Inside D&D (new revision)

I guess it's a matter of preference. Clearly, the E6 system will give more feats than the system I outlined. I don't know what you mean with "minor always-increasing abilities", but my gut tells me that adding a levels worth of abilities is usually more powerful than a feat. Also, with my system...

E6: The Game Inside D&D (new revision)

I think the E6 idea is interesting, but like some other posters I feel the advancement beyond level 6 may be a bit dull. This made me think of a gestalt system similar to the one Dragonblade275 suggested, and I don't think there would be that much hassle to do actually: -all numbers (saves...

    Martial Bard?

Consider taking the Snowflake Wardance feat (Frostburn); it lets you add your charisma bonus to your attack modifier. Unfortunately it only works with a slashing weapon wielded in one hand, and you can't use shields and medium or heavy armor.

    Invisibility and Light Source

Ha! Invisible light?! Now that is funny since light per definition is visible :p I see only two possible ways to solve this: 1) The torch sheds light as normal (and hence, it's easy to pinpoint) or 2) The invisibility spell negates all light (both reflected light and light sources) coming...

Help! I lost interest in my campaign... again!

What if you at the beginning of the campaign/adventure tell the PCs the entire plot (through an NPC, background stories, prophesies...). That's it! You haven't planned anything else. Now it's up to the PCs to find a way to overcome the problem. Essentially, you will need a problem with several...
