    Does 4th edition hinder roleplaying?

I don't understand why you think we didn't read the article; did we misunderstand it in some fundamental way?

    Does 4th edition hinder roleplaying?

Quoted for truth - or falsehood rather, but that's the point in this case.

    Does 4th edition hinder roleplaying?

No. He is saying that removing a tiny subset from the set of all possible roles to play means that playing a role is impossible, which is false.

"How to run a PC quick, clean and effective - Forked Thread: (...prevent Grindspace!)

If your character makes area attacks, come up with a standard algorithm you always use and write it down. For example: if I have dice of various colors, I'd write: Black Green Grey Blue Gold In order, the dice apply to the left-most monster and go right; if there a tie, go top to bottom. In...

    Encounters

PH page 54: "An encounter power can be used once per encounter. You need to take a short rest (page 263) before you can use one again.

    The Clever Group of PC's

My party recently remembered we could aid another in combat, and I think it will result in a noticeable increase in effectiveness. Clever parties are better at setting up flanks.

The Great Conjunction (RPG DESIGN CONTEST)

They all seem good to me, though we should definitely do second drafts first (whether or not it is a formal goal) because there are some things in my game (Tarot Arcana) that are never explained which are rather important in order to play the game. Oops :p

    So, about Expertise...

This feat looks like errata disguised as crunch (and poorly done, as it hurts characters who rely on both an implement and a weapon compared to those who use only one). I'm just going to give every player the attack bonus for free.

    SQUEE! The rust monster revealed!

I laughed out loud when I pictured adventurers in their under-clothes chasing down a rust monster in order to recover they gear they thought they were so smart to use the monster to recycle.

The Great Conjunction (RPG DESIGN CONTEST)

I've been working on mine a lot today, and I think it's become 50% more playable in the last 24 hours. My plan is to post a play-tested version with better-written rules an a lot more content by April 1st; I think setting a public deadline will help get me to do it. The biggest lesson I got...

    SQUEE! The rust monster revealed!

It's like Thanksgiving; you fatten up the turkey/rust monster, and then you kill it and party! A better solution would be the option to either recover 20%, or to perform a new ritual to recreate the item.

    Making outdoors encounters more interesting.

I thought I replied to this thread, but I never submitted it or something :( Anyway, what I said is pretty much covered by what other people said. The thing I really want to suggest is that you go hiking or camping; whenever I go into nature I am always inspired to make nature encounters...

The Great Conjunction (RPG DESIGN CONTEST)

Hopefully I got the attachment right this time. Anyway, I'm happy with the mechanics, but I'd really like to add more content, and I'd like a lot more playtesting. Like I said, I'll proably work on this some more an post an updated version in the future. If you have any feedback please tell...

The Great Conjunction (RPG DESIGN CONTEST)

Needs more content; I really wish I'd had another day. I'll probably post a version with more content in a while. edit: That was the version with a silly typo, let me try that again. Look at the version in the next post.

    Making outdoors encounters more interesting.

Whenever I go out in nature, I always get the urge to make an outdoor encounter. Real terrain is very interesting and complex. One issue with interesting outdoor terrain is that the map will probably take a long time to draw, so you don't want to do it mid-session. I want to play a battle that...

Character Sheets: Quick Reference or "Kitchen Sink"?

In addition to my power cards (which I like, and if I played 3.5 again I would probably try to make power cards for my character), I put all of the information I use in-session on one side of an index card. I track HP/surges on separate piece of scratch paper. I have a full character sheet which...

House Rule - level bonus added to damage?

Adding level/2 to damage will have lots of side effects, as others have noted. Here are some other ways you could speed up combat: Give everyone an extra encounter power; for a small boost, have it be of the same level as their lowest-level encounter power; for a big jump, have it be the same...

consequences of removing the character-based limit on daily magic items?

You could also disallow them from making magic items, or make it harder, in order to avoid problems from people having 20 of one item. For example, you could make it take longer, or be more expensive, or only an NPC can do it and they have to complete a quest for him in exchange.

    Monster vs Monster

I'm not sure whether there is a discrepancy in monster power levels (I'd be there is), but in the case of the Zombie Rotter, the monster is just broken; it should be a level 1 minion.

What PHB2 options are you most looking forward to?

You are my hero. I am most interested in new feats for now. Long term, I am most interested in the druid. Edit: And the bard, but I forgot to click its button while voting.
