Dungeons & Dragons May Not Come Back to Greyhawk After 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide

Well, that's not baked into the game and can certainly change. In 3e the default was explicitly Greyhawk. In BECMI OD&D the default was Mystara. In the Black Dragon OD&D boxed sets it was a mini-setting called Thunder Rift. I don't think 5e has a declared default setting, but given FR gets all...

Dungeons & Dragons May Not Come Back to Greyhawk After 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide

Sure, but it was the Tolkienen races back in the day. If you follow the thread of the civil discussion I was having with the other poster that was what I meant. However I get the impression you'd rather strut your feathers and be hostile. Again, re-read what I posted earlier. It includes...

Dungeons & Dragons May Not Come Back to Greyhawk After 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide

We don't talk about those queer and disreputable folk in Bree. ;) My point was there is no great metropolis where all the races live side by side like Water deep or 5e's City of Greyhawkm

Dungeons & Dragons May Not Come Back to Greyhawk After 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide

Interesting - was Mr. Arneson wasn't around for the release of that? (His bio says he passed on in 2009). Be interested to know if he was involved in it. Does sound a bit like the Dragonborn fell out of the sky though. As to the Tolkienien thing - you're right about halflings not really fitting...

Dungeons & Dragons May Not Come Back to Greyhawk After 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide

Ah, so it is us old-timers job to show you as much of the world and let you judge what you like. It's not that she's depressed (in fact she probably has a jolly old time in her court), its that she and Celene are withdrawn from the non-elven/fay world and outsiders. Hiring a group of...

Dungeons & Dragons May Not Come Back to Greyhawk After 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide

Well, IMHO it dilutes the flavour of the most iconic WoG organisation. Agree to disagree I guess. It seems clear most of the folk on this board think the changes aren't a big deal. They aren't in the sense it is an imaginary world after all, you can't imagine it wrong. I still don't have to...

Dungeons & Dragons May Not Come Back to Greyhawk After 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide

    1. See the Scions of Elemental Evil. She's pretty perky and hires some outside PCs to do her bidding. It mentions that she is a recent ex-adventurer and general all round chill dudess. 2. As to the Lore Glossary, well the purpose of that is supposed to be to gather information from the 50 years...

Dungeons & Dragons May Not Come Back to Greyhawk After 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide

Well, that and the fact they believe in the superiority of their suspiciously pale skinned, blonde and blue eyed ethnic group. They're kung-fu fighting Nazis, skilled in espionage and deceit. But yes, they are bad lads.

Dungeons & Dragons May Not Come Back to Greyhawk After 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide

No, the points he makes are:- Queen Yolande of Celene was a complex character in the original setting. She is a proud and distant character, affected by the loss of her consort to Lortmil orcs a few centuries ago, which spurred her to initiate the brutal Hateful Wars, ultimately causing the...

Dungeons & Dragons May Not Come Back to Greyhawk After 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide

There's a wee bit more than that. The rulership of the Flanaess of the 2024 DMG is a completely different to any other product. The odd tiefling nomad at the periphery of the setting, or sneaking in a Dragonborn librarian/knight are the least of the problems. A learned colleague here wrote a...

D&D General It's 2034, and the new PHB is in your hands.

The 2034 D&D Player's Handbook (PHB) marks a return to form for the franchise. Various nods to pre-2014 lore show that the Design Team respects the classic works and acknowledges that treating pre-2014 content with disdain disrespects the giants on whose shoulders they stand. The book itself is...

They did say make Greyhawk your own, so mission accomplished then. :)

Dungeons & Dragons May Not Come Back to Greyhawk After 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide

Well, you can update it to the new rules and provide some new adventure hooks. Or move the metaplot along. It doesn't have to be identical. There's a beautiful spectrum between slavishly reprinting the 1980 folio (which I don't hold as some kind of holy text, though it was groundbreaking) and...

Dungeons & Dragons May Not Come Back to Greyhawk After 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide

I understand the sentiment. I cannot see what is so morally objectionable to the Flanaess presented in the 1983 boxed set that it warranted such a massive rewrite. Some of the changes I get - I assumed the Glorioles had to go because of dirty jokes. I don't want to tell the King of Glorvandrum...

I'm not 100% sure being "smart on GH" would help understand why they were tweaked.

Agreed, but changes you cannot find an explanation for seem like changes for change sake.

It started falling apart long before that. I think just prior to 200 CY is when the big comet of doom appeared.

Greyhawk 404 - Rebellious Province Not Found Error. You are right - good job I'm not writing this nonsense. But if Furyondy secedes in 254 CY, how can the following quote from the DMG be true:- It is helpful to picture the Flanaess about 200 years ago. At that time, the Great Kingdom of Aerdy...

Dungeons & Dragons May Not Come Back to Greyhawk After 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide

You could make any adventure into a Greyhawk adventure. It'd just be nice to have adventures written for Greyhawk you don't need to adapt, like in the old days. And not just ones that start "Return to..." or are "reimaginings" of old ones.
