    D&D 4E 4E FRCS Cover: NOOOOOOOOOO!

    A couple weeks ago I ran the 3e PHB price through an inflation calculator and it came out to be about what they're going to charge for the 4e PHB (2006 dollars, the calculator didn't have figures for 2007 yet). Drizzt, meh, but it is a nice picture. I'd like to see more of a background, though.

    And I apologize for not including higher ranges, I wasn't expecting so many. That's awesome.

    Teaching New Players

    I have no interest in growing the hobby for the sake of it, since I'm not a publisher and I game with friends. However, I've seen a lot of people mention that most gamers become gamers by learning from someone else, so I became curious to see how many people were actually doing that right now.

    Teaching New Players

    This is what I do as well, and to answer my own question, I haven't taught anyone to play D&D in the past year, though I have some friends I'm thinking of inviting to play once I get back home next year. I taught a group of friends to play 2e when I lived in the dorms, but that only lasted for...

    Teaching New Players

    I've been reading a lot of threads the discuss ways to keep the game alive. Getting new players into the game is an obvious hurdle to expanding the hobby, so I'm curious as to how people address that in their groups. How many players have you personally introduced to D&D within the last year...

    Mike Mearls comments on design

    Yeah, I already do this to a certain extent as a player, though not on note cards. If outside events result in a larger than normal gap between sessions, it's great to read over a list of what happened last session and what we were planning on doing this session to get back in character and...

    I prefer the green dragon image to the PHB cover image.

    D&D 4E Simple Poll - How do you feel about 4E Right Now?

    Thumbs up. While I like 3.5 better than previous editions of D&D, my group and I have gotten annoyed with certain parts of it. Thankfully, the parts that annoy us are undergoing change and I like the previews that I've seen so far. The changes to FR aren't that different from what we usually...

    D&D 4E Women in 4E

    *snippage* I think there's some confusion over the meaning of objectification. You can look at someone lustfully without objectifying someone, people in relationships do it all the time. However, women in D&D are incredibly objectified. In the earlier pages of this thread, the damsel in...

    D&D 4E Women in 4E

    So the secret of the stinky gamer reputation is a passion for historical accuracy? Debating over which type of women are fit to be seen in public is not helping to dispell the sexist gamer image, people.

    Personal Preference (P)for PHB Pronouns?

    Alternating. If guys don't feel included under she, there's no good reason to expect women to feel included under he. -Mara

    Int = IQ?

    All right then. The way you mentioned it made me think it was knee-jerk. Thanks for clarifying.

    Int = IQ?

    My objection was that he's stating his position as if it's neutral and objective, when it is not. Putting forth a bit of science that has a racist and classist history then calling politics on objections to that science silences a dissenting viewpoint while portraying the original science as...

    Int = IQ?

    Right, calling him a Marxist makes the problems with the tests disappear so you can ignore them completely. I see. -Mara wandering off

    Int = IQ?

    Yep. I'm particularly fond of tests like these. The existence of 'g' is questionable. Stephen J. Gould addresses it a bit here.

    Int = IQ?

    At which Stephen Hawking would fail miserably. There's a difference between claiming there's no such thing as intelligence and claiming there are multiple forms of intelligence that produce competence in different contexts that can't be measured with a single (biased) test. I don't use any INT...

    Does "Fantasy Role Playing" attract people who have a hard time in reality?

    My first DM liked to make up for his failure at life through gaming. The female characters ended up impregnated with twins constantly (as elves!) and one vampire game became very unpleasant as he started using racial stereotypes as "jokes." He eventually possessed a PC with one of his...

    Would you pay for so-called Online "Dungeon/Dragon" content from WotC?

    I'm going to miss walking to the FLGS, chatting with the owner, then buying the latest Dungeon with cash. I'm going to throwing the magazine in my bag to make notes about the upcoming session wherever I want. I will not be subscribing to online content, because while I spend a ridiculous...

    New to EN World, have some general questions about being a DM

    Random encounters are one way to demonstrate the importance of moving quickly; however, just be careful that you don't accidentally reinforce the overly-cautious behavior by having the first thing the character touches in haste be trapped. -Mara
