    Magical wood

The larch is of course the best wood for divination. "Can you tell different kinds of trees from very far away? Number Three...the larch...the....larch." I know, we're not helping, but it was the first thing I thought of.

    adventure progress per session?

It took one of the groups I play with about 4 or 5 sessions to tackle the Sunless Citadel. That would be about 20 hours total. Other modules are less intensive. I ran Death in Freeport in a single 4-hour session, and it went very well. So your mileage truly would vary. Dungeon crawls will...

    My PCs lack charisma...

You'll find that kobolds are far more interesting when they're kept in one piece. In fact, it sounds like the party in question could use a good kobold diplomat... Seriously, this is a self-correcting problem. When they can't convince anyone to help them with anything, they'll either try to...

    San Francisco Gaming Stores

The Bay Area is blessed with a large number of good game stores. Aside from the worthy ones listed so far, let me add some others: * Endgame, in Oakland near Lake Merritt. Fairly new, friendly staff, broad selection, ample space set aside for in-store gaming. * Epic Worlds, Castro Valley. A...

Well, there goes the "Drizzt Clone" theory...

The natural follow-up to that question is...why wasn't it fixed in the Third Edition?? The double-weapon-wielding Ranger is really, really irritating. Just my 2cp.

Would you like to see an Elric Saga Movie(s)?

The Dreamthief's Daughter is entirely independent of Revenge of the Rose and all the others. It's hard to pin down exactly when in Elric's life TDD takes place. Doesn't really matter, either. Rose is my favorite of the Elric novels, though I haven't read it in a long while. It's a lot deeper...

Would you like to see an Elric Saga Movie(s)?

Mike Moorcock would love to see a *good* Elric movie done, but whoever made it would have to let Mike have a lot of control over things. This is not a bad thing. As far as actors for Elric, one fellow Mike had positive feelings about was Christopher Lee, before he got too old for the part...

What Should a Large City Have?

Every large city should have at least one, if not more, kobold curry chefs running award-winning restaurants. With many happy patrons.

Tough Puzzle/Combat Situation for the Party

Absolutely. One thing to remember about chaotic evil types: they are cowards. They are more concerned about preserving their own skins than anything else. Getting someone else to do the dirty work is just the thing. This is beginning to sound like a fun adventure... :D

What is it with these modules on the internet?

Have a look at the DMG's random dungeon encounter charts, and compare: 1st-level: 1d4+2 goblins (no orcs at all in this list!) 2nd-level: 1d4+2 orcs EL+3 is a relative thing. There is a much, much bigger difference between EL 1 and EL 4 than there is between EL 12 and EL 15. Anyway, it's...

What is it with these modules on the internet?

Well, 8 orcs should toast a party of four 1st-level characters no matter what. Orcs are tough. Orcs are scary. A party of 8 orcs is EL 4 or 5! An EL 1 encounter is *two* orcs. Changing the weapon from a greataxe to a longsword will not matter very much. :(

Tough Puzzle/Combat Situation for the Party

If I were those characters? Being told to assault a fortress, outnumbered 50 to 1 or something? I'd kill anyone who was trying to get me to go there, sneak off, and resume adventuring elsewhere. There characters are evil, nasty, and chaotic, after all... :D P.S. Besides, I know better...

What is it with these modules on the internet?

Interesting thread. A lot of good points have been raised on all sides of the arguments. Here's my takes on what I've read, given with the disclaimer that I've not read the module in question: * Knowing when to exercise the better part of valor is a skill lost to many D&D players these days...

Do you let players buy Magic items?

We allow item purchases up to the limits of the cities and towns in the campaign. With item creation feats in the game, there's little reason to restrict purchases. However, our DM keeps a tight rein on how much cash he hands out in his treasures...so we are rarely able to buy the magic items...

How to break old school Monty Haul players?

I see...he's your brother, and he's always antagonizing you? I don't think that's ever happened before. Seriously, this does not sound like an RPG problem. It sounds more like a sibling rivalry sort of thing. Either that, or he's been reading a lot of Knights of the Dinner...

    Chainmail: Where's the Turf?

They toss a random assortment into each starter. I'm pretty sure the rules for all the terrain cards are either in the main rulebook or in "Blood & Darkness," so if you're missing one, just substitute, or roll your own! There's a ton of 3-D wargaming terrain available out there you can adapt...

Do you use the Psionics Handbook in your game?

We don't disallow psionics, but no one is interested in using them. Having read the psionic combat rules, the last thing any of the players want to do is be a psionic PC... :(

What are your party's combat tactics?

Our pair of intrepid rogues set up flanking with a combination of invisibility and massive tumbling. One uses a sword of speed, the other is death with a shortbow or a mace. They will flank critters themselves and then start the cuisinart. It's brutal. Together, they often do 15-20d6 in...

    Qs about The Quintessential Fighter.

Hooray!!! I might actually look at it, then.... I mean, fighters as a class rule. Why the heck would you want to wander into a prestige class out of that class?? That, and there are already more prestige classes out there than actual D&D players. ;-)
