A Brief History of Tolkien RPGs

Good and interesting read, thanks :)

Looking for a good ruined city adventure setting

Definitely! I have used this module for every edition of D&D, from 1st ed up until now. Every time I think of something different to do with it. It's good some great encounters, interesting and unusual ways of tackling things, including traps and obstacles...very cool indeed, one of my...

My Starcraft setting using SWSE as basis

I didn't see any mention of this amongst the messages, so just in case it hasn't been said... There was an Alternity-Starcraft game a number of years back. If you can get hold of that, it has some pretty cool stats and info in it. Not d20, of course, but pretty close :)

What should be turned into a RPG?

WOTC (or was it TSR?) released a brief version of a Starcraft RPG about 10 years ago. Did anybody play that?

Kindle or e-reader work for 4e pdfs?

Exactly the same thing I'm typing this on...I travel a lot, and it's perfect for my needs :)

How Many Beers per Gaming Session?

Hey...just to go off-topic for a second, but...I will be living in London and am looking to join a second gaming group (as player) sometime Jan or Feb 2009. What's the chances of joining? :)

How Many Beers per Gaming Session?

Just had another thought, too, one which I should have mentioned in my original posting, and that is that we have 6 players in our gaming group. 5 of them drive to my house to game, so drinking wouldn't be the best of ideas unless they want to lose their driver's lic...or worse, on their way home.

How Many Beers per Gaming Session?

To be fair, I wouldn't say that these attitudes are prudish - they're just what people prefer. I like a drink as much as most people, but I prefer to game without booze...simple as that. My preference. Your preference is to have a few beers, and that's cool too :) But prudish? I don't...

What are the most played roleplaying systems anymore?

I also know that in the monthly edition of Previews they have the bestsellers for the previous month (comics, toys, books and games/rpgs)...but I don't have the latest copy with me at the moment. And yes, NOW I'm off to gaming! :P

How Many Beers per Gaming Session?

Doesn't getting drunk *before* the game count? ;) Seriously, although I don't mind the odd drink, my friends and I never drink during a gaming session. I prefer gaming sober :)

How would you prefer D&D class abilities to be handled?

I like much of what 3e character creation has to offer, but...and I'm going out on a limb here...if I had to choose just ONE version of D&D, I'd go for 2e using the Player's Option books :)

    Super 2E Hybrid

I can't help but agree with this. I, too, would use the POs books. C&T was pretty good with the lists of weapons, etc...and I was even a fan of the Initiative system they introduced :p The channelling in S&M was excellent, and S&P gave you some excellent variety without sacrificing the...

If D&D did not have HPs, how would you keep track of damage?

I understand what you mean, but I would tend to disagree a little. I mean, D&D has changed many things over the years and it's still D&D - look at what 4e did to spellcasters, for instance. They essentially took away the Vancian system of spellcasting but it's still D&D - and that kind of...

If D&D did not have HPs, how would you keep track of damage?

Okay, I'm curious B-) I've seen dozens and dozens of threads and thousands of comments regarding the obscurity which is Hit Points in D&D. A lot of people aren't overly fond of them. So...if you could remove the Hit Points system from D&D, what would you prefer it to be? And I know there are...

    4e: The final word

I agree. With so many people having played, and are still playing D&D, it's bound to mean something different to everyone. Some people use it for high fantasy, some for low fantasy, some for gritty fantasy. Some use it for modern games, some don't. And with the plethora of House Rules out...

    D&D is awesome

Okay, I'm going out on a limb here, but I have to say that during the 2e era, I was a pretty big fan of the Player's Option books. Not everything about them, but they had a lot that I liked. And I have fond memories of 2e because I ran a campaign that went on for years, set in Greyhawk, and...

When playing D&D I use battlemats...

Yeah, that's a fair point indeed. Can't help but be inclined to agree with you

When playing D&D I use battlemats...

I must admit, I'm a tad surprised that about 80% of those who have partaken in the poll use a battlemat pretty much every gaming session. Maybe I'm too old school ;) I guess WOTC knew a lot more about people's D&D gaming habits than I did when they designed 4e :p
