DM in a fix, needs technical support (ANDREW STAY OUT)

Yeah that sounds like a tricky situation to DM out of. I'm not a huge fan of 1, 2, and 4 because they are fairly cliche. How about one of these instead: 1. Double Agent. Reveal the BBEG to the PCs in a way that the BBEG isn't aware his "cover is blown". This sets up a ticking time bomb...

What do you think about the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting Book

Ok so the disappointment with fluff notwithstanding...hows the crunch? How did the swordmage/warlock pact come out? (power creepage?)

    Looking for a nation template

Connorsrpg, I would definitely be interested in this as well. I'd recommend setting up a free user account at http://www.megaupload.com and putting the docs there. (I think it can hold up to 50megs)

August RPG Book Club: Classic Monsters Revisted

Best thing about the book: the goblin poetry! Seriously, I would pay to see book full of such D&D-esque poems. The way they did goblins was awesome. I guess I'm kinda meh on the Bugbears. Its a very cool variety on the bugbears, but it just doesn't fit their stature somehow. The description...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder RPG Beta Release is available!

You know, if pathfinder didn't release this as a free PDF I never would've paid much attention to them. However I really like the majority of changes. To me it looks like the only things they missed were 1. the bard class still blows and 2. high level combat still sucks. 3. Making dwarves have...

    Damage Mitigation Calculator

Maybe I'm missing something obvious...but since when do Fighters (and only fighters) get to add their con mod to healing surge amount? Is this errata or something, because I don't see it in the Fighter entry on p.76 or healing surges on p.293.

    Tweaks to Multiclass Feats

I think it could be done, but you'd probably have to ban/nerf some of the better at-wills such as Twin Strike. Otherwise it'd be like going back to 3rd edition, when every martial class dipped into the first 2 levels of fighter purely to get extra feats.

    Historical-based 4e games

I'm writing a 4E mediterranean setting right now. I've decided to roll with the high-magic nature of the system. It's too tough to explain away things like healing surges, caster at-wills, highly specialized classes, rapid leveling pace, and enormous amount of punishment (high HP) that comes...

    Literary (and other) settings wishlist

An *actually good* version of Wheel of Time would be awesome =)

Why hate onthe drow? (Forked Thread: How is FR changing with 4E?)

I think the problem with the Drow is not so much that they are Drow, but that they have become the D&D equivalent of the emo movement. =) For the record, I am making the Drow Neutral-Good mercenaries in my next campaign. And making them ninjas. =)

    A DM's S.O.S

The PCs are all slaves and are forced to participate in a gladiatorial event. The last team of X (where x=number of PCs) standing gains personal freedom, popular acclaim, and are courted by various political factions/adventurer guilds/street gangs/military forces, depending upon what type of...

D&D 4e is pure win and I'll tell you why...

I don't think Dan's statement is totally out-of-line. I think most gamers tend to fall on the less-attractive-than-average-side rather than the more-attractive-than-average-side. This goes for both men and women. I mean cmon you go into a gaming store and you see guys like comic book man in...

Adventure Design Philosophy (was: Best D&D Adventures)

If I'm understanding what you're describing correctly, I would recommend checking out the drow war series by mongoose publishing. Essentially its a bunch of adventure "pearls" stringed together by the PCs actions. The PCs are constrained by a timeframe, but are given free roam to pursue whatever...

How Would You Make a D&D Movie?

I dunno, I think I'm gonna have to go with the original poster and go for the Princess Bride-esque scenario. I think the broader appeal of D&D is the playful, comedic, jocular side of the game. If anyone here has seen Dr Horrible's Singalong blog, I would love to see something along those lines...

Adventure Design Philosophy (was: Best D&D Adventures)

Hey there =) I think you have some good points on the "Best D&D Adventures" thread, and I'm sorry if you took my statement for rudeness =P I totally recognize there's different styles of gaming, I'm just surprised that there's such a strong presence for 1E/2E style play on the thread while most...

The power of D&D is the power of dreams and imagination, and rules for both!

Again, I wouldn't say that it's been bad for the hobby. I believe it has been a force of GOOD; these evolutions of D&D reach markets that D&D itself would never touch. By experience a little of something like WoW it opens them up to something more like D&D. It's like free advertising. I'm...

The power of D&D is the power of dreams and imagination, and rules for both!

I don't think D&D has been dying at all amongst the "younger generation". The best thing about 3.0/3.5 was the OGL; an online SRD (and pirated PDFs) meant that there was $0 cost of entry to the game. Compare $15 for a month of WoW with sweet graphics vs. $90 and a buttload of reading for the 3...

    Best D&D Adventures

Yeah I wouldn't say that I categorically hate *all* the classics; hell I even included one in my top five =P Its just that when I go through the old adventure books, they seem to be very vague compared to adventures found today. I mean, I look at the Caves of Chaos in B2 and although I can see...

Do You Prefer 4 Or More Players (+ DM) When RPGing?

I've done 11 before and it was actually one of my better campaigns. However it requires a much different DMing style, as you need to delegate many of the DM duties to the PCs. I rarely had all 11 PCs together at the same time; they went out on missions and the people who didn't make the cut...
