Fixing the Ranger's Archer Fighting Style

I have been looking at the Archer Fighting Style for Rangers, and I want to make it a viable fighting style choice. As it is right now, everybody (that I know) who wants an archer type ranger takes one of the other builds (Two-weapon, Beastmaster, etc.) and then goes on building a ranged heavy...

    Effects without damage?

I would personally say that he should sometimes just take the hit, or do something else useful. It will add to the thematic drama of the event when he decides that he must attack X for the good of the party. But, if you are convinced to allow Sacred Flame to do no damage (by others or...

    D&D 4E 4E No Focus

Personally, I have to agree that 4e seems to lack a cohesive vision, but I am not about to say that other editions had this vision either. It seems, from the stuff released, that there are two groups of development at Wizards. There is the group that asks "What can we do to expand market share...

    Psionics Too Psi-Fi?

Well, I can't argue that psionic sounds too sci-fi to you. I, fortunately, don't have any problem abstracting the power name out so it is nothing more than a reference, and then describing the effects in a flavor I prefer, but I can agree that it would be annoying having something that keeps...

    Magic Missile

I would gladly allow any of the bad guys to waste actions saving minions. If the fight is determined because a monster was able to save a minion from an At-will attack power, then I am doing something terribly wrong, like rolling a D12 to attack.

    Psionics Too Psi-Fi?

Rose by any other... Once again, I ask... Is the name so very important? Don't like Psionics because it sounds to futureistic? Call the source "Gate" because that is the backstory of where they came from. Don't like polymorph because it brings up images of donkeyhorse, call it Lifewarp...

    Magic Missile

Just words It seems to me like flavor is the problem here. When PHB1 was all I had, and I wanted a bard, I made a buff-heavy warlord and called it a Bard. No big deal. My issue is with the mechanics of the new text. It doesn't attack, damage just happens to the target. And other items...

    Psionics Too Psi-Fi?

Wizards, if you read the early articles about this, was basically choosing Psionics over [Ki, Chi, and Chakra. They wanted a different power source with magical effects and marital flavor (training the body and mind to work together etc, etc) and they didn't want it relegated to only being East...

    D&D 4E New 4E attack icon smilies

Here is the icon that I have been using for custom monsters and for Powers cards since 4e release. Maybe it will work for you. I have it in 48 X 48 pxl because I am also using it as my firewall icon. :p

    Tough Minion variation

Tougher Minions The 10 + (2*Level) = HP seems a good way to do it, I will have to try that in some skirmishes and see how it turns out. Do you use the same defenses as minions, or do you drop them to be the same as a soldier/brute/etc of the same level? I've been doing two different kind of...

Any other DDI Character Builder Sheet Templates?

What we need vs. what we have; 1d20+5 vs. 2 To start with, I am just barely starting in on xml and not sure if I really want to bother. Listening to you wizards discuss the theoretical need for this bat guano, I am not sure I want to enroll in the academy. That said, I think I perceive a...

UT - Moving to Salt Lake City, Looking for a Group

Greetings, and hello I welcome you as well. I am currently in 2 games at the moment, and both are "fully loaded" as it were. But many of the players I game with have more time than I do and play in many more groups than I. What systems do you enjoy and/or are you familiar with (including...

    Collected Core Handbook Errata

The difference between potions and elixirs Though I cannot find anywhere that explicitly states it, all officially released material leads me to think that potions consume a healing surge to take effect, while elixirs instead count as one of your item daily powers. Elixirs tend to be more...
