    Bardic songs in real life!

A lot of Dark/Neo Folk can easily be used by bards. Artists like :Of the Wand and the Moon: and Forseti are great for this purpose. Both mainly use acoustic instruments and focus their lyrics and atmosphere on nature. Blackmore's Night is also great, as already mentioned.

First time in the modern world.

If you don't mind using a non-D20 game, I can recommend the World of Darkness from White Wolf Publishing. While it is mainly a horror game, it can easily be used in most genres. it is mainly a modern game, but can be relatively easily modified for use in more futuristic games. Another...

    A Character Not Needed

Personally I would choose a Bard or a Wizard/Loremaster. It looks like they could use some knowledge. For race you should choose something with darkvision. Either Gnome or Dwarf, for the classes mentioned. I really like player dwarven wizards. They are great fun, IMO, and very resillient :)

Call of Cthulhu- which version should I buy?

You can modify the difficulty of an action in BRP. It is as simple as telling the player to add a number to his roll. Tou can make the action easier by telling him to subtract a number from his roll. This was already stated on the first page of this thread!

Call of Cthulhu- which version should I buy?

It is a personal matter. I really prefer that MAX HP does not increase often. Especially in a horror game. It makes your character alot more vulnerable and that makes it easier to get into your character's fear, IME (Both as a GM and as a player). Oh... It is possible to increase your HP MAX...

Call of Cthulhu- which version should I buy?

This is a little OT, but Chaosium has annouched the release of PulpChtulhu for next year on GenCon. You can see a short resumé of their GenCon seminar here. IIRC it will be BRP. That was annouched more than a year ago. The precise releasedate is not known yet and is very susceptible to delayes...

    Recommendations Please: Rules-Lite Modern Game?

It has been delayed to the 29th due to have been expanded with about 80 pages. Some were sold at GenCon. You can find the article here.

    Recommendations Please: Rules-Lite Modern Game?

So would I :) It works best if you run a fx-low campaign, though. It can be used for a more fx-based campaign, but then I would recommend buying all the new gamelines as well (at least the new Mage: the Awakening). I have personally been running WoD since last fall. Call of Chtulhu (BRP...

    Get rid of Druid summoning?

When I run games with characters that can summon creatures, I, with the player, creates a list of creatures from the SRD that the player can summon and then print it out, so that he can have the stats when we start playing. This way I can also add templates and/or modifiers. I require the player...

Call of Cthulhu- which version should I buy?

What edition really does not matter much, although the newer books look better than the earlier ones. One of the last three editions is the easiest to get hold of (5th, 5.5th and 6th) and the sixth edition has recently been released in a cheaper paperback edition (5th and 5.5th is also PB, exept...

Call of Cthulhu- which version should I buy?

Chtulhu by Gaslight is set in England in the 1890'ties. The core BRP rulebook covers all time periods from the 1890'ties to modern times. Mainly focused on three areas. Late Victorian, the 1920'ties (the period of most of H.P. Lovecraft's writings) and modern. The main focus for the D20 book was...

Call of Cthulhu- which version should I buy?

I prefer the BRP version to the D20 version. Perhaps due to a personal dislike of the D20 rules, allthough the CoC d20 rules are some of the best I have seen. The BRP version is percentage based and is very easily learned. The rulessystem is quick and effective, even if it is a bit minimalistic...

    Any good Scifi+cyberpunk rpgs?

It sounds like it was heavily inspired by Alastair Reynold's Chasm City. A great book and very much in the same vein as the new CP setting. Although Chasm City is set on another planet in the somewhat distant future.

D20 or OGL Roman style games?

I do not know of any that has been released, but Green Ronin is developing a Mythic Vistas title that covers rome (IIRC).

World of Darkness and Fading Suns question

I own the FS 1st ed. book and a whole lot of the Old WoD stuff, as well as the New WoD books. The new Storytelling system, has IMO, been cleaned up alot and is alot faster in play. All roles are made vs. a difficulty of 8 and difficulty is determined by adding or subtracting dice from ones...

Atlantis: Second Age (The Arcanum of old)

Personally, I would choose Tal4, for the rules system. There are alot of D20 products out there, so if you should choose D20, it would have too stand out and be markedly different. Both in system and setting. Using Tal4 you would promote your housesystem even more and hopefully be able to create...

    The U series

In another thread, someone recommended the U series (for AD&D 1st. Ed.) to another poster and so I became interested in them. I was thinking that I could write a small campaign based on these modules, but I want a bit more information before buying them. Can someone give me a resume on the plot...

    First Character Deaths

I had a halfling thief who was beheaded, from behind, by a zombie... I was a bit annoyed, but I had seen it comming and accepted it quickly. I was in a group without a cleric and had only a single hitpoint left, after an unfortunate encounter with an ooze...
