    D&D 5E Why ever play a cleric?

Is that a tempest or war domain cleric, and how did you arrive at those numbers?

    D&D 5E Why ever play a cleric?

I'm sorry I didn't instantly fall for the love of your life, the cleric class, at first glance. I just wanted some suggestions or perhaps explanation as to why people would play this class and choose the melee domains over a fighter or paladin, or why people would choose the casterish domains...

    D&D 5E Why ever play a cleric?

This is the definition of a mocking, sarcastic, useless steaming pile response.

    D&D 5E Why ever play a cleric?

This is what I'm talking about when I mean a useful, pertinent response.

    D&D 5E Why ever play a cleric?

Never thought I was a victim, though I know for sure that the majority of these responses have been mocking or sarcastic steaming piles. Some have been helpful, and if people would just stay on topic instead of crying in outrage as to why I would question their precious preferred class, then...

    D&D 5E Why ever play a cleric?

This is you simply being butthurt because I didn't ask the question so gently, precisely, and politely as to not disrupt your delicate sensibilities. Based on this thread, I'm starting to see the wisdom in playing a tempest cleric as a much better alternative to an eldritch knight if I wanted...

    D&D 5E Why ever play a cleric?

So in that case the selling point becomes utility/versatility for a minimal loss in combat capability/DPR?

    D&D 5E Why ever play a cleric?

That isn't the same thing. I'm not comparing a fighter vs. a wizard because they do completely different things, but it's fair to compare a caster class that gives you an entire domain based on melee against dedicated caster and melee classes.

    D&D 5E Why ever play a cleric?

Sure, but is it wrong of me to want to min/max and try to see the wisdom/extent of how a cleric can be min/maxed? I'm just looking for some dialogue here and maybe see something from a different perspective, but everyone seems so salty about it like I'm kink shaming you. Relax.

    D&D 5E Why ever play a cleric?

So do you think you're better at melee than the eldritch knight, who at that level has 3 attacks with a fighting style and 20 STR backing his attacks? Or do you think you're better at casting storm magic? I understand the utility part of it with heroes' feast and warding bond and stuff like...

    D&D 5E Why ever play a cleric?

When you put it that way, I can see why someone would go light domain cleric, since you're a medium armor wearing blaster that can heal. Cool. But for the tempest/war domain clerics, why try to improve your melee capabilities with a class that only gets one attack anyway? Like, if you wanted to...

    D&D 5E Why ever play a cleric?

OK, but what does that mean? What was your big reason for wanting to play a cleric in the first place? Healing?

    D&D 5E Why ever play a cleric?

I'm not trying to be inflammatory here, I just simply cant wrap my head around why someone would play a cleric other than filling the healing role in a party. I understand domains help them specialize and give them interesting options, but why choose a cleric with a certain domain over a class...

    D&D 5E Fixing the Champion

So then that would have to be 2 more ASIs. Best place for them would probably be level 3 and level 10, so you get one earlier than anyone else and you get one in between the large gap of 8th and 12th level. Sounds like a champ to me...thematically, but you don't need savage attacker with the...

    D&D 5E Fixing the Champion

Admittedly, I'm only using my personal experience using a champion across two games, one to level 4 and one to level 8, as the basis for my opinion. In both games, I found the expanded crit range to not be significant enough to grant the champion an appreciable, consistent damage boost that...

    D&D 5E Fixing the Champion

Unless there's some mathematical mystery I'm not grasping here, a 5% chance twice becomes a total of a 10% chance, therefore anyone attacking with advantage has 10% chance to crit over the usual 5%. I don't have barbarian or battlemaster envy, I just wish that when they designed the champion...

    D&D 5E Fixing the Champion

These are some pretty awesome suggestions. Perhaps rather than having a second fighting style as a choice and whatever I suggested, simply give him a third saving throw proficiency at that level. This way, you can have a fighter that isn't reliant solely on physical saves while, with the...

    D&D 5E Fixing the Champion

I've played a champion to level 8, and a battlemaster to level 12, and another champion to level 4, and thus have experience enough to speak intelligently on the "practical" applications of theorycrafting, as well as the "typical" play session involving these archetypes. To me it seems there...

    D&D 5E Fixing the Champion

I'll admit that game had a lot of people come and go, and therefore party composition was wonky and you couldn't rely on the cleric because he appeared and left and so forth. However, If we're already going to 17, then 16 shouldn't be that much of a stretch. Remember this is at 15th level. In...

    D&D 5E Fixing the Champion

So which would you keep and which would you throw away? I'd say the expanded crit range is a must, as well as remarkable athlete actually becoming remarkable. The regeneration and the fighting style thing can stay, I guess, though I'd rather give someone the option to go more defensive or...
