    D&D 5E Would you change a monster's hit points mid-fight?

Nope, but I tell them what those stats are as they come into play. When the monster attacks I announce the attack bonus as I roll the die where everybody can see. Same goes for damage. I don't tell the players how many hp a monster got left, but I'll try to convey that by describing its wounds.

    D&D 5E Would you change a monster's hit points mid-fight?

I don't let them peruse the Monster Manual at the table because I feel that would mess with the flow of the game. Apart from that, any meta-game knowledge they might have, they can use. I don't require the players to pretend they don't know silver is for werewolves and holy water for vampires...

    D&D 5E Would you change a monster's hit points mid-fight?

As a DM, I roll my dice in the open, so the players know I'm not fudging anything. That said, last night I was DMing Hoard Of The Dragon Queen and the party (5 lev 3 characters) encountered the blue half-dragon and 3 berserkers. I summarily calculated the CR (I should have done that beforehand...

    D&D 5E Gaining Experience

It's a side-effect of not gaining xp from treasures: if you're out there for the money, you might want to avoid fights as much as possible and you don't necessarily need a quest to fulfill or something. Without that, you're left with quest-based gameplay or a monster-hunting mob. Not that the 1...

    D&D 5E Spell-less Ranger

I didn't mean to question the OP, I was merely suggesting what I think would be a pretty good rendition of the spell-less ranger. That's true, but then the subleties of Tolkien can't really be translated to D&D. All the skills and "powers" are there though, as steeldragons said.

    D&D 5E Spell-less Ranger

It depends on what you would like the ranger to be, as an archetype: D&D's ranger is basically Aragorn. If you'd like a Robin Hood kind of character, why not try a fighter with outlander or folk hero background and an appropriate choice of weapons and skills (bows, survival and so on..)?

D&D 5E My Ideal Release Schedule

I would be mighty fine with them not releasing any more character splatbooks. Ever. What I would like to see is some shorter adventure modules: even pdf only would be fine, as long as they are well written and well put together. And some campaign setting box, like the ones TSR used to make...

    D&D 5E Low magic player characters in D&D 5e

I would ban all spellcasting classes and sub-classes except Wizards and Clerics, and I would make it clear these two are very rare in the campaign world, though they're not restricted to the players mechanically. Magic items are few and far between, and each of them has got a name and a story. I...

[SPOILERS] THE BIG BANG THEORY Mentions Gary Con

I knew where the joke was going when he said "Lake Geneva". One of the nerdiest moments of my life.

D&D 5E Milestones vs XP in Hoard of the Dragon Queen

So if I don't use milestones I'll need to get creative later on? That's good to know ;)

D&D 5E Milestones vs XP in Hoard of the Dragon Queen

So I started DMing HotDQ and we're halfway through the first chapter. I was set on using milestones to regulate level advancement for easier bookkeeping, but we noticed that, at least in the beginning, characters level up much slower than with the conventional method. One of the players...

D&D 5E As a Player, what would be your Ideal Campaign?

I guess more than setting and rules variants what really defines a campaign for me would be if it's an open world hex crawl type of thing, with no predetermined plot, or a story driven saga with some kill the bad guy/save the world climax. These days I would be more interested in trying the...

D&D 5E Enhancing "Hoard of the Dragon Queen" (Practical stuff to try at your table!)

I started DMing HotDQ a couple of weeks ago, and I basically went through the first session two times because the first time the party got wiped by some wandering monsters (Ambush Drake + 3 Kobolds). A couple of them had never played 5th edition and they took some very poor tactical decisions...

D&D 5E Movement and the Help Action

Hello everyone, this is my first post here. I got into a discussion yesterday with my gaming group about the use of the Help Action, and I was wondering if someone had the same problem with the interpretation of the rule. The book says "you can aid a friendly creature in attacking a creature...
