    D&D 4E Shado's 4e Color Landscape Sheets v1.2: UPDATED 6/24

Excellent work Shado. These are easily the nicest character sheets around (for my tastes). All we need now is for Vesper to add the macros to the new version. ;) (Only joking Vesper - I know it's a lot of work!)

    Anyone Tried Hexes?

Ooo he gotcha there, Incendax! ;)

The Return of the Half-Hour Workday

"Half hour days" would be a result of one of two things: * Bad play by the players, or * Bad design by the DM, or * Both of the above. If they players are playing badly (by using up all their dailies and too many healing surges at the beginning of first couple of encounters), then they need to...

Would stacking Combat Advantages work as a way to implement players' Clever Plans?

I can't see why people say that at all. Simplifying things makes it LESS like a video game! Video games can do all sorts of horrific number-crunching for determining combat and other results - have you ever looked at the formulae used for WoW? It's crazy to suggest that simplifying rules makes...

    Cursed Items

If I wanted to play roulette, I'd play roulette, not D&D... However, my players have indeed ended up with cursed items. :) They are all items I made up myself though. I'm interested, however, how you define "losing" in D&D? I'd say it would be irrevokable character death. That's definitely...

We got TPK-ed in the Kobold Hall!

Yep. From PHB pg 57 (bottom right corner): "Whenever you affect a creature with a power, that creature knows exactly what you’ve done to it and what conditions you’ve imposed."

Make cone effects = step pyramid shape

One of the defining characteristics of lightning bolts is that they don't go in a straight line! 3rd ed was never very realistic in that respect; 4th ed isn't any better or worse really, just different. Except, of course, it's a lot easier to work out who will get hit. :)

    D&D 4E Shado's 4e Color Landscape Sheets v1.2: UPDATED 6/24

Thank you very much Shado, and Vesper. :)

    Wall Effects

It seems reasonable. Here's a question: Assuming you are outdoors, how high should a Wall of Ice be to prevent monsters from climbing over it?

    Cursed Items

@Olgar: Yes, but those kinds of RP items are *exactly* the kind that you're going to want to make up yourself, tailored to the player to provide maximum fun. I have never used a predefined cursed item (although I admit I have plundered the predefined ones for ideas).

    Cursed Items

That's only true for non-cursed items. :) As it says in the PHB, page 223: "Some magic items might be a bit harder to identify, such as cursed or nonstandard items, or powerful magical artifacts." So it actually does specifically mention cursed items.

    Wall Effects

Hmm, True. But it also says that the Wall "Prevents Movement". I'm not sure if that means that you can't climb over the wall, but I can't see the point in saying it otherwise. Although if that were the case, what would be the point of making the wall taller? "Prevents Movement" isn't clearly...

Make cone effects = step pyramid shape

But there are already situations where you can do that. Consider the following (T=Target, F=Flanker, * = Originator, O = open square and X = square affected by a close blast from *): OOFOO OXXTO OXXXF OXXXO OO*OO
  14. C

    Wall Effects

Assuming you could, you couldn't actually *use* it as a staircase or bridge, because the rules for Wall of Ice say that you can't enter a wall square.

    Does this work

    Heh, sorry about that. :)

    Does this work

The trouble is, if it's only a minor action to damage yourself, it should only be a minor action to damage a helpless opponent... On second thoughts, for this particular character, he would be well practised in the maneuver, so I guess he could do it pretty fast.

Make cone effects = step pyramid shape

For that reason, I would expect spells using cones to be balanced by doing extra damage or effects in comparison to blasts. I believe that these other shapes would add variety to AoE attacks. (Although I also think that things are fine as they are - but making even better something that's...

Where are the Unarmed Combat rules?

Happily, the rules explicitly allow that. PHB pg 66, col 1: "Many martial powers, as well as several divine powers, can be used only if you’re wielding a weapon. (You can use an unarmed attack as your weapon.)"

Make cone effects = step pyramid shape

Hmm I like those. At first sight, it looks like the rules for those shapes could be made quite precise and succinct. Not sure what the ramifications of allowing those shapes would be - but it certainly looks interesting.
