D&D 5E Everyone has Darkvision - too generous?

All "Darkvison" in my campaign has been switched to our own version of "low light vision". You can see up to 60 feet in dim light as if it were normal; mechanially that means "with no disadvantage". Dim light includes starlight, moonlight, and torchlight.

D&D 5E What is your current way to roll stats

    Glad you like it! "BON" is the net bonus granted by all the stats. For example: 15 (+2) 15 (+2) 15 (+2) 8 (-1) 8 (-1) 8 (-1) gives a net bonus of 3 Whereas: 14 (+2) 12 (+1) 12 (+1) 12 (+1) 12 (+1) 12 (+1) gives a total bonus of 7 (the only one that gives BON 7, incidentaly) My players seem to...

D&D 5E What is your current way to roll stats

I have a chart of all 65 arrays generated from the 27-point-buy system. Some of the the options have multiple % of being rolled, stretching 65 arrays into 100 rollable outcomes on d100. Players roll d100 once, get that array, and can arrange the stats in any order.

    D&D 5E Survivor Core Races: HALF-ELF WINS

Dwarf 23 Elf 17 Half-elf 27 Half-orc 11 (-3) Halfling 6 (+1) For the Shire! Because I will always see them as, and call them, Hobbits. Human 22

D&D 5E Would "ranger" have been better as a background?

De Facto, "Ranger" is a background in my campaign. I allow the classes: Fighter, Cleric, Rogue, Wizard Then I use the template for backgrounds (PHB 125): 2 skills, 2 of languages/tools, and a feature based on the character concept. Then I add: Each character chooses one feat at first level...

D&D 5E How are the maps in Out of the Abyss?

Hi, I don't run adventure paths as is, but I love mining them for resources. How are the maps in "Out of the Abyss"? Are they attractive? Creative? Rational (as in, the layout makes sense for the denizens)? Are the easy to use and well keyed? Do you feel you could pluck them out (with the...

Double Digital D&D Delights! GOG.com has new goodies & a new sale!

If you follow OP's link, at the top of the page there is a color picture of a skeleton warrior smashing through a door (it's coming at you!!!). Can anyone please tell me which edition and book that came from? I have thought of that picture many times over the years. It was one of my absolute...

    D&D 5E A new Golden Age for D&D

Anecdotal: 5E brought me and many of my co-players from the 2E era back to D&D. I've quickly, and with little effort, found new players and campaigns to join, and they've all been awesome. Almost all of the content so far has been positively received by all the D&Ders I know. So, Golden Age or...

Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide: The First Official D&D 5E Setting

I'm always thrilled to have more world material to snatch up, mix up, and use in my own homebrew! I've used FR extensively for that purpose. So I'm very excited for this product! And though I won't introduce more PC options in my campaigns, beyond what's in the PHB, I'm glad those options will...

D&D 5E My Players Didn't Like 5e :( Help Me Get Them Into It!!

I don't agree with the prevailing theory here that you need to cater to this party. Ask Insufferable-Stream-Of-Consciouness-Rant-Man if he wants to DM. If not, and you're thrilled with 5E, find a group to run 5E with. I'm all for compromising with my party, but when someone communicates with...

D&D 5E Feats: Do you use them? Are they necessary?

We only use four classes: fighter, rogue, cleric, and wizard. Most races in the PHB are allowed. Then, we use the template for backgrounds ("Customizing a Background": PHB pg 124) to allow the choice of: two skills; two of languages or tools; and a feature. We then use feats to allow for a...

D&D 5E Maximum Manageable Number of Players

As of 46 votes the results have a strange bell-curve. 5 and 6 have a high percent, as does 8. But 7 represents a strange lull in perceived maximum. Is the thought here "well, if I'm going above 6 I may as well jump all the way to 8" ?

D&D 5E Maximum Manageable Number of Players

As a DM, running 5E: 4 is ideal 5 is fine 6 is managable 7 is difficult 8 is beyond my ability I don't get to be a PC much, but I'd estimate the numbers would be the same for me.

D&D 5E DMs: How Old Are You?

    39. DMing since '89 (14). Sorry OP, I'm not trying to be argumentative (Really!) :) But I really don't agree with the "life stage" qualifiers, even when they are re-qualified with regional nuance. My players (in this and previous groups I've DMed) range from mid twenties to early 40s, but are...

D&D 5E How often do you play?

We *average* once a week. At the end of every session (I DM a 4hour 5E session for 5 players) we decide what day, the next week, we will play. So the space in between sessions be quite chaotic. For example, at the end of a Monday session, we may decide to play Friday of the next week, being...
