Variant healing: A Long Rest doesn't recover all hit points, just half the hit dice. My players actually voted unanimously for this option. We love the greater feeling of danger. I notice others here seem to be using this healing variant as well.

I use roll20 for my 5E campaign and it works great. I would certainly recommend trying it. Unfortunately, I have not used any other virtual tabletops and cannot give you comparisons.

Good advice. I may have been letting the tables do all the work. Waht they make is... interesting. I'll try using them as a foundation and polish them up from there.

I LOVE random tables. And I am THRILLED by how many there are in the DMG. I've rolled some interesting results from the DMG tables, but not actually used them in game yet. I was particularly excited about the dungeon map tables, however all the maps I've rolled have been... well... unusable...

Haven't learned how to quote properly Everyone rolls for initiative, and I'll say, "Ok everyone above X (x= monster's initiative) can go." Then I go, then I say, "OK, everyone else can go." *Yoink*!! I'm stealing this and using it in my next session! What understated brilliance! thanks...

So many great memories from the first (and subsequent) times around! But now quick, someone convert them all into 5E for me!

This is merely anecdotal, but the BAM near me, right before Christmas, had several 5E DMGs displayed on a table right inside the front door. I don't know what that means in relation to the other information shared here. But I do know it made me happy to see them.
