Since the "Christmas tree effect" is an important factor in my 3.x burnout, it's a very good news in my ears.

I heard James Wyatt or Andy Collins saying that the wizard's role in combat is a controller, which means he try to control the battefield. That doesn't mean that outside of combat, he won't keep his "logistic" role, with spells like Teleport, Scrying, etc.

Hahaha, I don't think D&D will ever be a "narrative" style RPG, but it seems that the skill system will move to something a little bit more conflict-resolution oriented (vs task-resolution).

IMHO, that nostalgy was the biggest problem the 3.x designers encountered. It wont be long before many thanks Mearls for hacking those cows in little pieces.

D&D 4E won't be my ideal RPG, however from what I've read above, IMHO it will be a much better game than 3.xE.

A coherent mindset, with less rules, but more "powerful" ones. Tactical combat being one kind of a challenge, not the only one supported by the rules. A new way to deal with magical items. A lot less numbers to track (wands charge are #1!) Classes and levels should stay. (Doing without them...

I was only talking about character generation, creating a software to play D&D* would be impossible for various reasons. *I'm not talking about a virtual tabletop here.

I've said it before : It was "impossible" to create an online character generator under current 3.5 rules for DI. With 4E, they will start only with (simpler hopefully) core rules and add others as the products are released.

If 4E is to 3.xE what 3.xE was to 2E : I buy. If 4E is to 3.5E what 3.5E was to 3.0E : I don't buy.
