Why don't more people play high level campaigns? 13th+

Wind Walk, Invisibility and Telepathic Bond... Yeah, that's the combo that was used by my players in my last campaign. Wind walk is nice as an overland movement spell, but a bit too good at scouting.

The Myth of the Necessity of Magic Items

I was talking about thing like personality traits, backgrounds, special physical features or mannerism, etc, i.e. features that are fun to use while acting. In a "conflict resolution" system you can still roll dices but 1) you roll less often and 2) both results (success, failure) must have...

The Myth of the Necessity of Magic Items

If you prefer free-form acting, I strongly recommend you to give a try a game that gives you ways to defines character outside of their combat abilities. You should also find that a "conflict resolution" system instead of a "task resolution" system will be better for your group. Like I said...

The Myth of the Necessity of Magic Items

At some point, it's no more a game but some free-form acting. There is no problem with that, but you are clearly no more playing D&D.

The Myth of the Necessity of Magic Items

"Fire-power balance" is of course unnecessary in many role-playing games, but the "Spot-light balance" is not. Because in the D&D game, combat is the major focus of the system (rules) the "fire-power balance" often translate directly to "Spot-light balance".

    The Illusion of Powergaming

Well... you can always find people having fun with a game for other reasons than the game is about (kids can have great fun with D&D miniatures without any rules). The goal of the D&D game is to overcome enough challenges to get to the 20th level (that's what the rules are supporting)...

    The Illusion of Powergaming

The first problem is that "characters traits" (what you call "personality") aren't part of the D&D game. The second problem is that it's very difficult to add them and make them relevant because the game is "challenge-based" (classes + level). Some will surely say that such things should not be...

Does FR have human racial breakdowns like Greyhawk?

There is many human "etnicity" in FR (see RoF) but they are all the same "rule-wise" (except for feat/PrC pre-requesite)

    Feats to rules

Hi, in my next campaign, I plan to add to the combat rules the "Climb aboard" benefit from the Giantbane tactical feat from CW. I'm curious to hear what you think about it, but more about which feats you consider should be added directly to skill or combat rules ? (Some diplomacy-based feats...

    Magic Item Saving Throws

Maybe because rules don't care if your non-magical clothes are burned?

What have you done with Conjuration(Creation) spells ?

Under 3.x acid is a energy like Fire, Sonic, etc. It's why I talked about Acid arrow in my OP. Also, there are some Conjuration(Creation) spells that produce fire energy without SR in the PHB. IMHO, all these spells need a review, the orbs ones are also "a little bit" too much effective.

Alternate XP system, magic item creation/spells

I'm trying again, Does some of you have found a way to handle magic item creation in a campaign where no XP are given directly ?

What have you done with Conjuration(Creation) spells ?

Yeah, that's the problem I don't like direct-damage spells without SR.
