Can you make ranged attacks when blind?

At the very least, they would have total concealment to you, which means the best you could do is attack a specific square and have a 50% chance to hit. Also, ranged weapons talk about "line of sight" - if you can't see, do you ever have line of sight?

You can run. But you cannot hide! About DMing, ideas?...Münster guys: STAY OUT!!!

Another thought, you've mentioned that at least one of the party members has a low sense motive. These Shadow Masters need to use more deception! Remember that scene in Mission Impossible 2 where Tom Cruise puts a mask of his face on the bad guy's assistant and basically tricks the bad guy into...

Robe of Useful Items: pit & window?

You could lay most of it out on the floor except for one small fold, and when somebody steps out onto it, then pull it completely flat! :D

MIC- Did the price of mithral change? Is mithral armor too cheap?

Play with semantics all you want, the fact remains that armor can be sundered. Whether you would want to or not is irrelevant. If the initial statement had read "Armor cannot be sundered when worn," then I would be wrong and would freely admit it, but it just said "armor cannot be sundered," and...

can you take 10 on a hide check?

Sounds very zen. I'm just trying to figure out what the arguments really are - this thread has gotten impossible to read with the point-counterpoint-quote structure, and it seems half the posts are filled with "no, I didn't say that, you said that" etc. Obfuscation is only a good debate tactic...

can you take 10 on a hide check?

So the position is "you're not hiding until someone is there to try and see you" ?

MIC- Did the price of mithral change? Is mithral armor too cheap?

I can see lots of fun applications - PCs return to their home base to find their possessions not stolen (and therefore recoverable), but broken into little pieces. Maybe the bad guy, realizing he won't win this fight, sunders the magic armor on the pedestal that would have otherwise been a...

You can run. But you cannot hide! About DMing, ideas?...Münster guys: STAY OUT!!!

This thread makes me wish I lived in Germany so I could at least aspire to be in this game! Here's a trick I've been longing to try: bad guys send the PCs letters that have explosive runes or symbols of fear/death/insanity/etc scribed on them. It should work at least once before the PCs start...

    Is celerity broken?

Could someone explain to me why "invulnerable to your spells" wouldn't apply to Cloudkill? From the description of Time Stop, it's something of a misnomered spell - time doesn't really stop, you speed up. So seems to me, you'd cast your Cloudkill, but it wouldn't do anything until Time Stop...
  10. The Blow Leprechaun

can you take 10 on a hide check?

And the other side is saying it does not work this way, or that it works this way and in other ways (a la using Use Rope to just tie a knot)?

    Wizard Alternatives

Personally, my favorite storehouse of knowledge is Archivist/Wizard/Mystic Theurge (no MAD as usually cripples a theurge), but none of those are great on skills. There's some suggestions on expanding your Knowledge base in notjer's tread: http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=199249

    Stoneskin debate

I wasn't discounting your points. My italics on clearly weren't meant to be snide in any way, it was meant to stress the ambiguity of the situation. This seems like exactly the sort of thing that, if you're worried about it, you should ask your DM before it ever becomes an issue just so...

MIC- Did the price of mithral change? Is mithral armor too cheap?

Maybe I'm misreading your post, but if you're trying to make this point, then you're wrong. Armor can indeed be sundered. You make a roll against the object's AC to damage it. http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/specialAttacks.html

    Stoneskin debate

If that's the case, why is the spell framed in terms of damage reduction instead of simply absorbing damage (a la the brooch of shielding)? Or even saying, "stoneskin absorbs the first 10 points of damage from each hit not made with an adamantine weapon, up to 150 points of damage total." I...
  15. The Blow Leprechaun

can you take 10 on a hide check?

Not to agree with one side or the other, but to just interject for a moment to try and clarify something, it seems that one side (I can't follow who's on what side anymore) seems to be suggesting that Hide/Spot interact in the same manner that Escape Artist/Use Rope interact when you tie someone...

Just because they read a lot of books doesn't mean they read a lot of books in great detail on a lot of different subjects. D&D classes are always a trade off between specialization/generalization, with the assumption that the more generally able you are, the less specifically skilled. Wizards...
