Is a dying character still bloodied?

Awesome, I never noticed that! I think I know how I'll fix the most problematic healing powers now if it comes down to it (Sacred Ground I'm looking at you. And you look like regeneration when bloodied...)

    Goliath Warden Build Help

You may also want to pick up the warlord (or cleric/bard/artificer) muilticlass feat. It's an extra surge a day whenever you need it most...

D&D 4E New Campaign, New DM, New to 4E

I'm of the oldschool 'punish the players for being stupid' crowd. I'd say if they burn every daily resource every time they encounter a fight on the road, let them get away with it once or twice, then go ahead and attack their camp 3 times in one night. In the wilderness during a war like this I...

What are your problems with Healing/Dying mechanics in 4E

Re: The original poster. A good simple rule that increases the grityness of 4E is that every failed death save costs you a healing surge, instead of a strike. And when you're out of surges and fail a save you die. I haven't seen the math around healing break in a real game (damage vs. HP...

House Rule - No Aid Other in Rituals

For skill challenges I've found I generally disallow aid another and instead let the players roll secondary skills with set DCs and a -2 penalty to the person who's making the primary check on failure. At this point I wonder why aid another isn't just a 'roll 10 or better' like a save. It's...

    Fey Step Recovery

Depending on how much min-maxing your group does, another option is to allow recovery when he scores a critical hit. May be a good idea to limit this to once an encounter, of course.

    Re-balancing wizard at-wills

I've been giving this some serious consideration since Winged Horde hit. Consider it a though experiment for now, the PHB wizard is easily the weakest bit of 4E class design (they're not bad, but controllers on a whole have weaker mechanical hooks than any other roll, thank you wizard). And...

    Wizard Build Suggestions (PHB ONLY!)

It would most likely be hard to stack a lot of conditionals at once. A feat that (when read correctly) gives +2 against opponents marking you is, for instance, considered very weak (could be decent with a bard, though). If anything you'll more often be able to get a bonus, rather than stacking...

    Average rounds per encounter?

This is a huge can 'o worms, man. It's a pretty debated issue in 4E... That said, it really really depends on the game. I'd say in my heroic tier game a typical combat last 4-5 rounds, while in the paragon tier one I play in it's more like 6-8. But typical fights are the outliers for me.

D&D Insider - My main beef

I've heard good thinks about the most recent versions of Mono, but good luck ever getting anyone to develop for it. MS sort of screwed cross-platform support with .NET by just making lip-service to it.

    paragon hospitaler

If you want to make is stronger to compensate consider making it trigger on divine sanction in addition to divine challenge. That would be reasonably fair, as you're removing both the big limitation of the feature and the big drawback. Playing a 14th level Hospitaler myself I actually think the...

    Raiding vs. tabletopping

I'd agree, but for different reasons. You can get gear on par with the normal (non hard-mode) stuff from Uldar 25 these days very easily. It's not that it can't be pugged (thanks to gear inflation), but just that it's not generally worth it two content cycles behind the curve if you're not doing...

D&D Insider - My main beef

Actually, it frequently makes mistakes, and in the case of hit/damage there's no way to correct them. This is my current biggest complaint with it. The lack of any house-rule support is my #2, though.

    Monte Carlo versus "The Math"

My vote is still something that doesn't affect the simulation at all (especially with it riding around 100%) like Devoted Challenge.

Racial Powers: For those houseruling Weapon/Implement Expertise as 'free feats'

One thing to note is if you want to really push your AC with a paladin (not necessary, as they already have the best base AC in the game with plate + shield) you want Plate Spec/Shield Spec or which require 15 Con/15 Dex respectively (at paragon). Yeah, for my Cha/Wis kalshatar hospilitar...

    So how is 4th edition?

I can do little to recommend 4th more than urge you to play it. It's clearly a game designed to be played over most everything else. So I'd encourage you to try a one-shot or something and try it out. That said, given your preferences I think you'll enjoy 3E more. 3E doesn't become a pain to...

    Psychopacifist clerics

You know, the build itself is fine. The powers are often on the strong side, even without damage, especially in a large party, and it gives you a full hybrid leader/controller feel. However the feat is the problem , as it's where the stupid restriction comes from and it usually just means...

Racial Powers: For those houseruling Weapon/Implement Expertise as 'free feats'

    A) 3 points of this disparity is hitting non-AC defenses, since there's no proficiency bonus to the breath. B) I like to take -1 to all defenses at 5/15/25, myself. Since I print the stat blocks of all my monsters from the Adventure Tools this works well and is easy (and the players don't have...

    Wizard Build Suggestions (PHB ONLY!)

No, there's some power creep, but it's really more like option creep for most things. With just the PHB there's often a clearly 'best' option, and the books just give you generally more options in line with it, but nothing really better. Oppertunity costs keep power level pretty similar. The...

    Paladins = pesudo leaders?

4x the static stat bonus (double two stat bonuses), using a combination of encounter/daily resources and partly from a fighter paragon path, in fact it's 5x with Holy Strike. It looks like this at 14th with appropriate magic gear: Ardent Vow (minor, +Wis damage to next attack) Channel Divinity...
