What type of characters would you like to play in a 1-shot

I like the idea of a standard class but with some "different" feats/builds. something like a fighter specializing in daggers or shortswords... or a half-orc rogue who's more of a thug... I like the idea of still doing something "out of the ordinary", especially if it's not a power build but...

    Running clerics as spiritual counselors?

Although it hasn't happened often, sometimes clerics in my game get into the religeon side. In my current game, the cleric follows a god of the elements (water cult). Doesn't get preachy to party but always manages to slip in comments to "stear them morally" his way. (Even went as far as to...

    Weapon Illustrations in RPG Books

Might want to check out "Goods and Gear" by Kenzerco. Some great pictures of weapons and armour, and even better descriptions. Also, they really do get into more of background of the items and different parts. It's the best book I've seen in a long time! (It's got both D20 and Hackmaster stats)

    Take the HackMaster Challenge

I hope mine gets here soon! I'm all excited to hear that others' are arriving. (I'm in the Great White North, so I'm sure it will take a bit longer...)

    Complete Champion excerpts

well, for me I use Kingdom of Kalamar for my setting, so it's got its own deities and doesn't use any of the "core" ones... so I like to see that in books for examples, but not too keen on a lot of "core deity" specifics. I really find it hard from the previews to get overly excited on...

Enough with the PDF table of contents already!

Maybe I'm missing something but it's only 2 clicks for me to get it as it is... certainly not a bother at all... not sure why anyone cares so much...

    Complete Champion excerpts

Interesting. I've never played in a game where one was used... and I've played in quite a few games. In the end, it just wasn't our style.

    Complete Champion excerpts

True, but many also have a large number of items to find as well as allowing you to "rest" often and renew resources... regardless of "practicality". Just my opinion of course and I'll be the first to admit I don't play many videogames. (NWN being the big one)

Does "Fantasy Role Playing" attract people who have a hard time in reality?

I thought I read somewhere that the "boom" for RPGs (at least D&D) was during Recessions... partially because once you have the basic books you don't need anything else and therefore no additional cost... but also because people did want to escape. Personally, I enjoy it for the social aspects...

"low" magic campaign using D&D rules

Oh, one more thing. I find this type of setting (rare magic) works really well for setting up the characters to truly be the outstanding heroes. It doesn't mean there can't be others out there who have classes and/or high levels, but the characters are exceptional... and as time goes on and...

"low" magic campaign using D&D rules

I pretty much do a "rare magic" setting when I run my game set in the Kingdoms of Kalamar setting. I like the idea that magic is still powerful... just not common. Pretty much I go with the RAW and just limit the amount of magic accessible. Given the way 3.5 changed things so that DR is by...

    D&Dvolution?

If you haven't already you might want to take a look at DM Genie (www.dmgenie.com). I have found it a great tool for my D&D (D20) games. It's pretty good "out of the box" and also provides lots of room for customizing as needed...

    Take the HackMaster Challenge

I'm looking forward to it because I've been considering giving it a try... and now I'll have the tools I'll need. (I've got the Player book to read already and all my old 1e and 2e monster books). I'm not really a big fan of the way things are going with 3.5 (reserve feats and "per...

Your favorite alternate D&D magic system?

I agree that I love the Shadowrun system but that it doesn't fit too well with the D&D ruleset. In the end, I like leaving it with the Vancian system... although all the reserve feats coming out are forcing me to re-evaluate some. I don't want to "fight the change" just because it's change...

    Ideas for better gameplay

Well, personally I find using a laptop as DM really helps speed things up and lets me focus more on roleplaying... once I'm comfortable with the program. I've been using DM Genie and it really helps me keep track of details so I can focus on the story. Also, as a player it's been nice to...

Old School Flavor Doesn't Mean Lazy

Just out of curiosity, are these items purely +1, or are they +1 with some other abilities like keen? (that does increase the "effective" +) Just shooting in the dark here... :)
