New listings on the WotC 2007 product page!

It was all those books that "changed the world" that drove me away from FR years ago. I loved Birthright while it was alive... used it more as a setting than the player's running regents. They had novels which were great, but were able to contain them to the history of the land, or minor side...

Adventures without much Hack n slash?

I'd suggest looking at most of the modules from Kenzerco for the Kalamar setting. Although there can be combat, there is much more focus on roleplaying and setting I have found.

who should choose familiar/spells DM or player?

If his big concern is the roleplaying aspect, offer to write up a detailed background of how you found the familiar and the circumstances when the spells (you picked) first manifested and how... I say it's your choice, but I also would want my players to tie it all in somehow...

Help? I just can't make up my mind...

To me this is interesting and cool! It lets YOU make the character unique... keep the stats the way they are... a human fighter with an 18 int... you can style him out like the planner/leader type...

Ranger combat style feats as prerequisites

I thought it said right in the PHB that if you build a feat on top of it, you lose use of it if you ever lose use of the feat it's built on... at least specifically for the ranger combat styles.

    Sell Hackmaster to me

I've been looking more into Hackmaster lately since Kenzer & Co commented that they're looking at making Kalamar the default setting for Hackmaster in a few years. I'm personally not ready to jump into Hackmaster JUST yet as I'm enjoying 3.5.. but there are a lot of great things about it. It...

    D&D and the Implied Setting

Personally, I like running in the Kingdom of Kalamar setting. I find the setting doesn't focus on magic too much, which lets you put in as much or little as you want. There aren't big magical "movers and shakers" or magic based cities/societies. If you want them, add them. Personally, I like...

How much bonus XP for player logs?

I did the 50 xp per char level. This worked well and we got some great in character journals. The big thing for me was it helped speed up the leveling a bit given that our group was rather large (8+ players regularly). Also, it really helped to develop some of the characters as some of them...

    Stupidest things PCs/DMs have done

Ok... here's a couple more. The first one took place with my group before I joined, but we all heard of it. One of the players was playing Snaxar, a Kobold Thief-Acrobat. He was in the top of a tower and they had just defeated the enemy. In the process of the fight, a large amount of water...

    Stupidest things PCs/DMs have done

Here's another few from a group playing Shadowrun I ran... First, on the first adventure the Former Company Woman ran up the stairs to attack... got hit by burst fire and was flatlining as she tumbled down the stairs. The mage healed her. She got up, ran back up the stairs... took another...

    Stupidest things PCs/DMs have done

We had one YEARS ago... 1e days... the party was decending into the depths and encountered a lich. They fought hard and won, but were sealed in a cavern with no way out. The player who normally played the cleric wasn' t there (running late), so one of the other players was playing that...

Funniest Thing That PCS Have Done/Said

Way back when... we were playing Temple of Elemental Evil (Back when it first came out), and one of the players was a homosidal dwarf... after clearing out the moathouse, he mispoke and said he was going to "Masterbate the bodies" instead of mutilate... he never lived that one down...

Dragons... has the icon been lost?

Personally, I hate the whole concept of a "buff spell"... gets too much MMO in my Roleplaying...

    Oh Yeah.. Gnomes...

Gnomes... I used to really dislike gnomes... in fact, I loved the Birthright setting in part because it had no gnomes in it. All that has changed... I was playing in a game set in the forgotten realms, and since I'm usually a DM, I was looking for something new to try as a player. The party...
