    Solving the minion problem: Waves!

Again though, this doesn't mean your minions are failing at their job. A Swordmage is sort of a weak defender, and he's not doing a good job defending if he's using At-Wills to kill minions. Throw a couple soldiers at him and have your minions attack him from range. Or throw the minions at...

    Adventurer's Vault masterwork armours

Heck, all your players need to do is walk down to the store and buy a standard set up plate, and then can enchant it to be +6 Godplate. As others have said, all magic armor above a certain point is Masterwork Armor. So your players don't really have to "buy" it per se, they can just enchant...

    Solving the minion problem: Waves!

I don't think that this problem is as big as it's being made out to be. There aren't that many auto-damage abilities in the game, and many are dailies. Take the Fighter, for example. He has several stances that allow him to have an auto-damage burst 1 around him, all of which are dailies...

Official ruling on Battlerager Vigor mechanics

 Free Fallin' was Tom Petty... Jack and Diane was Mellencamp.

Official ruling on Battlerager Vigor mechanics

Okay, there's a LOT of misunderstandings of how this is working here. It's really simple, but it's being needlessly overcomplicated. You have Temp HP's that are granted from various sources, one of those being Battlerager Vigor. Temp HP's do not stack. So if you have 4 temp HP and you're hit...

    Reasoning behind Extended Rests?

Too true... The flaw in Defenders losing their surges is not with the system, but with the play style. Especially in an adventure like KotS. My party has a Fighter (me), a Paladin and a Melee Cleric. We can clog almost any hallway in that place, and as such, we are the only ones that ever...

Official ruling on Battlerager Vigor mechanics

Most of what abyssaldeath said was accurate, but remember that BRV THP only activate when you're hit with a melee or close attack. Example: Assuming the parameters above of 18 CON (+4 mod) and 30HP. A Goblin throws his Javelin at you in the first round for 7 damage, you will take the damage...

D&D 4E 4E Skill Challenges - An Exercise in Dice Rolling?

In our group, we go along the lines of the OP's second example. We RP our responses, and then do a roll along with it. Then our DM will award a bonus of +/- 2 depending on how our RP was. So it's not just a dice roll, and you can still get a good result even if you're not that strong of an RPer.

    "Nearest enemy"?

Yeah, this isn't an issue of the power, it's an issue of players trying to game the system. It doesn't mean we need to change how Quarry works though, because a lot of players don't do this (our Ranger, for one, does not). If you're a DM and you have a player that's doing this, then deal with...

    Reasoning behind Extended Rests?

Even without there being a time limit, you can still make consequences for taking too many rests. Say your players are exploring a dungeon. They go through part of the first level, blow all their dailies, and then leave the dungeon to take an extended rest. What, the enemies won't notice that...

    "Nearest enemy"?

Bino's wouldn't really work for one simple reason. When you go to fire your bow, you can't hold the bino's up. Heck, you can't even hold them while trying to use a one-handed weapon for the most part, since you can't really see how you're aiming when looking through the bino's. So at some...

Martial power - what's with the unbreakable marks?

I would tend to say no to that. This allows you to create "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situations. You could have someone marked by the Fighter, which activates Combat Challenge, and then Divine Challenge them. If the monster attacks the Fighter they take DC damage, and if they...

Martial power - what's with the unbreakable marks?

Eh, I don't think that would work... I don't think you can "mark" allies. :D However, what that soldier could do is go up and mark the Fighter. Then, his friend could shift away, and if the Fighter makes his CCII attack on him, the monster could attack in kind.

Martial power - what's with the unbreakable marks?

This is a Daily power though. If it were an Encounter, I could see what you mean, but then it would be too powerful. As a Daily though, you can only use it very rarely, and on one enemy. So no, I don't think it was created as some way of "simplifying things without errata". If you're a...

Martial power - what's with the unbreakable marks?

Yeah, the point of these powers is to act as an anti-BBEG power. Basically, you mark them for as long as you're conscious, and no one else can override it. This means that the BBEG will have to focus his attention on you, or risk CCII attacks. If he decides to ignore you anyway, he'll still...

    Platemail sold here for CHEAP!!

I think some of you missed this from the second page. Whoever said that the "Plate Armor" of 4e was actual Full Plate armor fit for mounted cavalry? Who's to say that it's not the "munitions armor" this guy was talking about? Considering that you can buy this stuff for a relatively affordable...

What if we removed the half-level bonus to everything?

Okay, I guess you're not understanding here. The point of my post was pointing out an issue of choice in your PC's and they lay out their stats/feats/weapon choices. If a player wants to take a 16 in their primary stat in order to put some extra points in a tertiary stat, they can do that and...

Can you spend an action point outside of combat?

Yeah, Veteran's Armor isn't the best stuff out there, but it has it's uses. However, it should be used in combat as was intended...you shouldn't be having people running around in the Epic Tier with +1 Veteran's Armor so they can recharge their stances outside of combat. Keeping Action Points...

What if we removed the half-level bonus to everything?

It's supposed to take approximately 10 encounters to level up your PC's, so that would mean 20 encounters to go up two levels. So you're proposing a complete overhaul of the system to avoid adding 1 to a bunch of numbers every 20 encounters? This seems to be the opposite of simplifying the...

What if we removed the half-level bonus to everything?

Aren't monster defenses based a +1/level scale? In which case, Orcus would have an AC of 16, Fort of 19, Ref of 14 and Will of 17. Still a little better than the Kobold in Fort and Will, but in AC and Ref they're almost identical.
