The bulette: Make it cool as hell

Turn the bulette into a landshark -- let it swim through the ground. You don't have to give it the ability to phase through earth to do this; many RL burrowing creatures simply wiggle or 'swim' through the soil rather than digging with claws (& in these cases tend to have highly reduced legs or...

Live near any fantasy-sounding places? List 'em here!

San Francisco has plenty: The Golden Gate (the straits between the Pacific Ocean & San Francisco Bay), & the bridge which crosses it Treasure Island the Palace of the Legion of Honor (I've always wanted to run an alt history campaign set in The City, with this as the base for the royal...

    OotS 389 is up

My purpose in gaming is now to devise a plan in a game that involves potato salad & a giant wooden alpaca.

WotC News - Is this for real???

What's funny is that this was the very title which popped up in gamer suggestions for a better title when "Complete Adventurer" was announced. Oh, and when do we get "Complete Raven"? ;)

Legitimate light source for those underdark crawls...

The real 'reality' issue was never biolumenescence, but the presence (and size) of fungi deep in cave systems. The entire Underdark ecology pretty much requires some sort of magiphagy as a basis for the energy in the system.

    Looting Dead PCs

My actions as a player depend on my character in this. For some of my characters (like the assassin), it's a simple matter of practicality; the stiff isn't going to need the stuff where he's going, & the rest of us could use it (or the coin it'll bring). OTOH, my barbarian once accidently...

Do you select PrCs based on power or concept.

I put 'both' because it comes closest to matching what I actually do -- which is look for ways to gain the abilities needed for a character build to match my concept in an effective & useful manner. If it has great flavor that exactly matchs my concept, but offers nothing (or even weaker than...

Is it a good idea to pull a lever in a dungeon?

T'lar would pull the lever. T'lar would wait until the party telling him 'Don't pull the lever!' was asleep & sneak back to pull the lever (and did). T'lar died a couple of times, almost died a lot, & went to Hades once (without a handbasket!) because he liked to pull levers. I liked T'lar. :)...

    New Dwarven Favoured Class?

Cleric. First thing I think of when someone says 'dwarf', actually. Between dwarven clerics in EQ (they have a good starting WIS), & the dwarf cleric in our RttToEE campaign, it just seems a natural fit to me.

How many people do you have on ignore? (No names!)

Just 1, & I think you actually know who, Whiz (from graffes, though I don't really go there anymore anyway).

Need help finding the name of a song!

Going for a long shot here, but the description of the video made me immediately think of "Encore En Fois" by Sash -- that, however, is in French.

Advice for playing a stupid character

I played just such a character once, & initially had some difficulty dealing with situations where I'd figure something out or have an idea which the other players hadn't seized upon but not have a way to share it in character. What I finally did was play my character a bit more stupid than he...

Wierd Pete's lament in KODT #116 - is it true???

Silent films (along with many careers) when the 'talkies' came along.

    Druid vs. Druid

I'd suggest something similar to the Child of Winter sect from Eberron -- a druid who believes that the many races of beings (& their abuse of magic?) have damaged the natural world beyond repair, & that only a 'clean slate' can allow Nature to return to its pure state. This purist (or his/her...

Monopoly d20 -- multiclass my thimble?

Why are you going for an iron/thimble multiclass anyway? Spindle/thimble gives better skills synergy. Hrm. If you're set on the iron/thimble thing & your DM insists on jail prep, see if you can get another player to let a green property go up for auction. It's RAW (though not often used), &...

    What's your screen name from?

My original bard main in old EQ (where bards are quite a different creature altogether from their D&D incarnation). He was a half-elf, & when I was creating him I wanted a 'nature-y' name since he was starting in Kelethin (the tree-city of the woold elves). Looked around my room, spotted the...

    Anita Blake Vampire Hunter

I'd actually say read everything up to (& including) Obsidian Butterfly, which is like 8 or 9 books. Beyond that, things get much sketchier -- the very first one post-Obsidian, Narcissus in Chains, is... ok, but showing the signs of where things are going to go (lots more sex, sex for the sake...

Is this the benefit of an R&D department

Haagen Daaz Midnight Cookies & Cream = Heaven. I guess it's just one of those things where the business world way of doing things hits me funny. It does make perfect sense, but OTOH it also sort of tickles my 'cheese' bone. *shrug*

    Nifty fire mage feats?

Spell Focus (Evocation) is an obvious one for the +1 DC. Energy Substitution (fire) not only lets him turn any energy spell into yummy burnination, but is also a prereq (IIRC) for the next feat: Spell Thematics -- I forget the source of this, but it lets every spell cast have a unique 'theme'...

    Eric Noah's Info

I truly believe you fail to grasp the 'napster' mindset here. Music can be purchased for download for $1 a song, but people still download illegally. Why, then, would you think that someone inclined to illegal downloads would pay $5 for a PDF? The point is not how much it costs, nor how the...
